    bookmarked.

    # iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -p 5200 -P 10 -4

    [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.13 GBytes 969 Mbits/sec 0 sender
    [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.09 GBytes 937 Mbits/sec receiver

please note, this was done from rescue mode.

about my disk problem: support pulled all four old disks from my server and put in one brand new SSD, a second fairly new one and also a near new HDD, but sadly seem to have missed to put in the last HDD (or didn't plug it correctly) as I now only see three drives at all (also checked via lsscsi). so, we are not finished here yet :-)

at least meanwhile I tried their rescue mode (GRML) and had a look into IPMI which seems quite good working so far. it also looks like their rescue system comes with a boot menu that have an install option for debian quite some distros, but I didn't check any further yet...

if they don't get the last disk done today I am probably starting an install on the SSDs anyway and see if they put the last disk back in 2018 (haha ;-)).

@jarland: did you order a stock offer or something customized for disks? in german their mail reads 12-24h provisioning for stock offers otherwise it might take longer :(

I hope you let me test it <3

@Falzo : you need the -R flag to do iPerf3 in Reverse mode (You send data / upload). Download is fine for me too.

@jarland : yea same result. I've asked the support why its capped and they answered "well you got your promised 500 mbit peak". Its a joke. Advertise with Gbit and cap at 500 and THEN say "everything else is best effort but nonono we dont cap".

    Thats so BS.

    Oh, this not sounds good.

I would understand that the line may be congested during peak hours and a single server then gets less then 1000 mbit (so between 500-1000 mbit best effort) but its capped 24/7 and so its false advertising IMHO. If they cant effort paying for the upstream traffic (thats whats costly, even for a german ISP - downstream is cheap as f*ck) then they should advertise it like 1000/500 mbit so a customer knows what he is up with.

This package smells a bit fishy - even though sales made a good job. Will try to contact the CEO to discuss this further i guess.

AND: This only effects external routing, internal routing (incl. upload) is uncapped @ 1000 mbit (iperf3 to speed.myloc.de port 5002), the cap only applies externally.

  • Another Funfact: Even their speed.myloc.de is capped. So it seems that this is a company wide rule which is in place. Here is an iperf3 from our iperf3-server listed above (speedtest.wtnet.de) to speed.myloc.de:

    Download (MYLOC -> WTNET):

            [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 703 MBytes 590 Mbits/sec 5225 sender
            [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 677 MBytes 568 Mbits/sec receiver

    UPLOAD (WTNET -> MYLOC):

        [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 4.10 GBytes 3.52 Gbits/sec 1435 sender
        [SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 4.03 GBytes 3.46 Gbits/sec receiver

I got my ryzen server with 2x 120GB SSDs, but I have some issues with the server.

    1. Rebooting my server doesn't seem to work properly, I simply cannot connect to the server after rebooting it. Rebooting on webtropia's panel works however. I guess I will try contacting their support
    2. My ryzen cpu frequency is 2.2GHz, does this mean its getting underclocked?
    3. Is it too much to ask for a new SSD with only 32 bad sectors? :O

nope. as default in iperf the client (my server) is sending so that's the upload.
and in reverse mode the client would be receiving. but I am going to check both modes later again, once I finished my debian install ;-)

Doesnt help at all. iPerf3 is more accurate than FTP

fLoo said: @Falzo : you need the -R flag to do iPerf3 in Reverse mode (You send data / upload). Download is fine for me too.

nope. as default in iperf the client (my server) is sending so that's the upload.
and in reverse mode the client would be receiving. but I am going to check both modes later again, once I finished my debian install ;-)

Yea, its the upload which is throtteled on MyLoc side, sorry for confusion ;-)

Regarding install: I went with Debian 9 > LUKS -> LVM -> Proxmox on top (LVM on top of LUKS)

    Yes.

    hah, don't troll him ;-)

I wouldn't accept that drive, bad sectors is a no go regardless what drive in any server we're talking about. on top of that it's 4 years old, wear leveling count is high, already about 40TB written (on a 120GB SSD ...) so definitely ask for a replacement!

Thanks, I was going to leave it be since the server is already so cheap, but I guess I will ask for a replacement. Do you happen to know if its normal for my cpu to show 2.2 GHz for its core frequency? I believe it was supposed to be 3.7 GHz

Check which performance governor is active. Change to "performance" if necessary.

still missing my fourth disk, support has gone silent since, I am afraid there's not much more going to happen during the weekend and new years holiday.

Anyway, I am not in a hurry and as long as they fix that missing piece next week I am good so far.

Damn, that's sexy. If you asked me to pick an SSD by model, that'd be the first thing off the top of my head.

agreed. have 4x250GB of them running as raid10 locally, very nice drives...

edit: @fLoo I now stumbled across that addon IP not to be ordered problem too. will wait for next week anyway, but can you tell if they provide virtual macs for bridged setup? their FAQ seems a bit... small and old on that topic :-)

Just setup a pointopoint (/32 IP) and you're ready to go. Just like Hetzner. No MAC setups needed. Gateway is the one of your Hypervisor.

  • still not got ryzen server delivered lol

  • tech support obviously is working today and took care of the missing HDD, got one with just 232 hours on it, now all is in place as expected and working properly.

while putting granny hardware in first is kind of an odd move, their support has been far better then what I'd expected... seems to depend on (german) working hours, but at least they are responsive and took care of everything in an acceptable (to me) timeframe.

so far I am satisfied and might need to adjust my former opinion on webtropia/myloc. we'll see about in a few month ;-)

lol, nah I doubt that. but make sure you use my aff-link if you want to sign for any of their products: http://www.webtropia.com/?kwk=148053074210048175209163 roflmao

for real, webtropia didn't have so much of a good reputation for years. I watched bruteforce attacks and a lot of spam coming from myloc servers incoming on several other services of mine, mylocs abuse department never replied to any complaints or requests...

so I never touched them before and this is now giving it a first try to see, if they evolved somehow and are usable maybe even for production services. I guess only time will tell...

also their pricing range esp. for vservers is not really attractive compared to the other usual suspects I am recommending ;-)

The two bad things about them I've heard were always the downtime and bad network so you might wanna look out for these :)

  • I have ordered AMD 1700x Dedicated Server on 24/12, till now have not received it, should I open a ticket ask for status or should be patient?

Be patient. It's either gonna happen today or tuesday.
Sunday/Monday is holiday here in Germany.
