If you do can we go on a different node?

Yeah, we only have a limited number of nodes that aren't 'full' at the moment. We'll do what we can to accomodate you, though.

Adam and I were looking at adding more nodes, before we had to spend a pile of money shipping what we currently have across the US.

@Damian said: Just thought of another issue: a utility server that holds our OS templates, amongst other things, didn't get sent. It's always one thing or another...

What you going to do about that? Host them elsewhere or something?

  • DamianDamian Member

@dominicl said: What you going to do about that? Host them elsewhere or something?

No, our "standard" mode is that all of the OS templates are kept on a single system, and then all of the hardware nodes load them as needed via NFS on a local gigabit network that runs between all nodes. So we'll just replicate the templates to all nodes in the meantime, til the utility system is back.

Ah, okay. Are you going to have to spend more money getting the utility sent over there?

Yeah, but it's not imperative to our operation, so it'll be sent via ground shipping; MUCH cheaper.

@Damian said: I expect more cancellations too, once we're up and people can get their data off.

If anyone here wants to cancel I'd be happy to take their 32MB VPS ...

Ah okay, I see :P When do you think everything will be racked?

Just throw up a VPS with the same IP as the share, set up the templates on here

  • @TheHackBox said: @HalfEatenPie first of all, you should be sleeping :P

How do you know when I sleep? Do you stalk me? Oh wait I talk to you on IRC.... that explains it.

@Damian said: You don't need to do that, we're not going anywhere :P

I like money too but sometimes (and just sometimes) I like giving more money to hosts I host with.

Unfortunately, I don't have a better answer than "very soon"

@ShardHost said: Just throw up a VPS with the same IP as the share, set up the templates on here

    Ah, even better idea. Thanks!

    @Damian said: very soon

I think that's trademarked by BuyVM and their stocking schedule. (this is a joke)

Also I'm excited to get all(and by all I mean two) of my VPSes back with you guys :P

Sarcasm works so well on the internet.

  • @Damian I am actually considering to be your customer after all of this. You are doing a great job. And thanks @CVPS_Chris for helping him out!

Feel excited, three of my boxes will back online. :D

  • Well @Damian came on IRC today :P

Don't get excited yet. I don't think, I hope I'm wrong, there is any chance that the servers will be online today. It's Friday, people leave early, tomorrow is Sat., not many people come in to work, also i.p allocation is not that simple as you think. It's not all Damian's work, it has to be working together with DC.

This is not included with the lazy part of America, Data Centers operate 24/7/365

    EDIT-Real Data Centers

  • LAKidLAKid Member

some of the "Real Data Centers" can't even set rDNS on weekend, if you know what I mean.

  • DamianDamian Member

@TheHackBox said: Well @Damian came on IRC today :P

I'm going to try to make more appearances rather once-a-week.

@LAKid: Most things have been handled, and Chris specified directly that he's racking today, so we should be online soon.

Then they're not a Real Datacenter, just someone pretending to be one.

    contenders vs pretenders..

  • mikhomikho Member

I've only been to two dc and both I the keys to so I as a customer can come and go as I want to.

  • Well done to @CVPS_Chris for helping out -- Really glad there's decent providers out there who will help others.

Also, can't wait for my 32Mb Server to be online again o.O @Damian -- How long would you "presume" IP Allocation to all, what, 1000 VPS's would be? ;'] I don't think there's a simplistic script you can run through SolusVm to re-allocate IP's is there? Except removing / re-adding.

  • @Damian any update on servers?

  • I would bet they are working on them now. :) I am awaiting the IP's since those won't let us get back online until we re-point them to the new location.

  • DamianDamian Member

    @eastonch said: Except removing / re-adding.

Yep, every container, every IP, one by one.

Just spoke to @Damian on Live Support; he couldnt give a cement "hour" or "time". But he did say that he'd handed over temp root passwords for network to be setup. So, I would personally assume this means they're racked, setup and just awaiting some network configuration. I would then say the IP's would be allocated.

Depending on how smooth it goes, maybe ~2-4 hours? -- Scratch that; edit: 90-900 Hours for all them VM's? :'(

Last time we did this, it was about 3 or 4 hours. We've doubled our client base since then, but we've also figured out all the little issues that we encountered last time. So 8 hours at most, but probably way less than that.

  • How do you shuffle through it? Just go from Active CID 01 > Active CID 1058?
