  • @edan with VT or not?

I want an AMD 248, but they are OOS. :(

How are these compared to a decent VPS?

$120 per year buys a lot of KVM. Maybe not comparable on the storage side?

Well yea, a decent KVM will beat it to specs, but it would be useful to store my music collection and got a bit better CPU than the Core2Duo one.

  • I have the Quad2Duo and have been very happy with it Nice thing about WSI is you can get DirectAdmin license for a one time $5 fee. Server has been rock solid, network has performed well,

my 2 dedis with them are performing excellent (especially for the price) for over 4 months now, without a single downtime (knock wood).

  • Waiting for the Atom's to come in stock then I'll grab one myself..

I'd love to give WSI another shot, but I didn't even get a response to my PP dispute last time. After numerous tickets

  • Anyone get a sever with SSDs? If so what kind of drives are they using?

I was with them about a year ago, I can agree support is a little on the slower end but they still offer a great service and that in itself makes it worthwhile for non-critical usage. But personally, I am happy with 6 hour response times as the chance of a hardware failure isn't too great.

I had a hard disk that was on deaths door, and they replaced with a dead one.

  • Just picked up one of those AMD 248 preconfigs for $10 - I need to get some sleep so I haven't played around with it much but I love that wholesale's panel has reloads and reboots on it now.

Their WHT ad lists DDoS protection but I don't see anything on their website about that.

    Don't worry! Those Hitachi's goes forever ;-)

  • Okay so I've had more of a chance to play around with the server this morning and I must say that I'm impressed with it especially since it is only $10/month.

The 2x AMD Opteron 248 2.2GHz CPUs are a lot better then I thought they would be and the entire machine feels really snappy on a Debian Jessie install. It says 100mb but I'm hitting up to 72MB/s at times.

Here's the network card on the $10 AMD 248:

    root@s82992:~# lspci | egrep -i --color 'network|ethernet'

We test the drives before we build the systems for SMART errors. If you're ever concerned about it, for any reason, just open a ticket and request that it be replaced.

Also, I'll throw this out there for you guys with the $10 Core2Duos. I have a lot (I mean a LOT) of 250GB drives sitting around. If you want another drive put int here for backup purposes, open a ticket and we'll drop a second 250GB drive in there free of charge.

  • AaronWAaronW Member, Patron Provider

When you open the ticket mention that they should talk to me about it.

First thing I thought too :) this server will for sure be a keeper now!, they forwarded my ticket to billing.

I wonder if their reload feature is able to do software raid 1? I had just gotten my server last night and have never used the reload thing before.

  • AaronWAaronW Member, Patron Provider

The reload feature is not able to set up RAID yet. I sent a note to the techs so the drives should get installed for you fairly quickly.

@AaronW We can do it manually later as long as there are two drives :)

  • Nice. Second disk added in just over an hour after request. Top notch service!

Sweet :) I just shut down my server as requested and they said they will be adding the drive in soon
