when i was 18+, people asked me when i am going to marry. i said "when the time is right" . now i am 34 and i am still single. B)

I am jealous of you. You can build compassion rather than love. Sail on sea, walk on ridge of the hills, fly on air, crawl on forests. When felt difficult, watch J Krishnamurty. If from India, throwaway community creed.

I've updated the name of this thread to reflect that this is a discussion and not an announcement of an official policy change. We are open to feedback on how to find the best common ground outcome.

That said, we are going to be more critical of worthless content inside offer threads that just goes on and on and on. Everyone has to respect the community.

  • In my opinion to reduce spam in an offer should be limited to one post per user

    Who are "WE"? I'm not!

Why you say "we" instead of "I"? You should say "I, me" not "we".

This thread is SPAM and self advertising for @Arkas.

  • I also think, regardless of the spam factor, this "post your order number to double your X" is also a form of data mining and that comes off as being extremely dodgy to me.

Yes, the main reason is most likely to keep the offer thread bumped for publicity, but every time you post an order number to get double the bandwidth, you are also linking your LET account to your full personal information (name, address, email, etc.)

Are the majority of providers malicious and going to use that information for bad reasons? Probably not, but it's still a dirty marketing tactic. It's like those supermarkets that double the prices, and then offer the original price if you "sign up for their membership card and provide them with all of your data"

@Arkas I understand this policy change, and honestly I have no problem with it, but can we let the RackNerd thread continue until Jan 31st as was originally planned? Well, and maybe a few days after for winners to be announced. Or that could be a separate thread too I suppose.

I don't represent the company, I just represent the RackNerd gang.

    Edit: Please.

Your the next leaving for spam.

  • Why not just make it where forum users can dismiss a thread?

If I read the offer and am not interested, I still see it over and over due to the spammy comments bumping it up. If users could just "dismiss" the thread, the site could still get the traffic but it wouldn't be a bother to logged in users who didn't want to see it repeatedly.

There was no warning, but everyone had time to be a part of this thread. The winners can be announced anyway by an admin. Further derails wont help.

Look at the rankings, I'm clearly not aiming for a prize, I'm just asking for respect.

I see this thread has turned into exactly what the forum is trying to eradicate.

To All Providers. If you ask for 'me too' type posts and auto spammy worthy posts guess what? You wont have to give the audience a gift or something to win! We will! A warning. To you and to any members that do so. This practice has gone on for long enough. I've had enough and so have the rest of us!
So say we all! Or some wild, good enough speech like that.

I want to know when there is a good deal to be had. There's a few providers I keep an eye on but some mechanism to almost instantly know if an offer contains actually good deals. That would be a game changer.

It's hard to pass up on truly good deals, even if you don't have a home for the server at that time.

It's no question, the forum needs a revamp. If we could get notifications for deals, block certain providers, etc. This place could be amazing.

    You have a point there.

I'm as pissed off by the spam threads - and Racknerd seems to be the king in that - as anyone else. Kindly remember that I already months ago publicly opposed thread spam (and spam threads).

But as much as I emotionally enjoy - and laud! - what @Arkas did, reason tells that we should not forget fairness. And it's not fair, justified, yes, damn about time, yes, but not fair to just announce "per right now thou shall not ..." and to create facts right away.

Even mercilessly nurturing thread spamming providers deserve fairness and some justice. And that translates to give them and their fans some time to adapt.

Maybe what BlazinDimes suggests, somewhat blunted probably, would provide adequate fairness and the satisfaction that at least very soon, say in two weeks, such behaviour won't be tolerated anymore. At all. But at least let RackNerd and the others have a short time period to finish what they have cooking right now.

That shit went on for so long that we certainly can tolerate a small grace period of a week or two.

    1. Did you ask for permission from The Purple Guy before opening such thread?
    2. Did you ask for permission from The Bilohbucks Crypto Founder before formulating such request?

I am starting to think this will likely end up as another trolling thread, similar to The One Before.

This thread was created by @Arkas in the spirit of improving our community. I appreciate that.

There is a balance to be found between creating an exciting environment around sales-periods like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Years, etc, and reducing the noise on the forum.

We are going to refine this policy as a group and then implement something official when the time is right.

I am not even sure if POTUS would take over a year to figure out what to do with refining a policy.

This was created back in Jan 2024. It met its fate somewhere in a couple of months and let to sink without any trace or warning.

Now, it's Jan 2025. A new thread is created.

    What will be it's fate?

Surely, no mods/ admins ever participated in giveaways and celebration threads. Cause how can they as they are still deciding on the best policy to implement.

The biggliest and the best policy - ever.
