To be honest, there were only a few providers on that thread and extrapolation from this data may skew the actual scenario. There were some providers who opposed the motion as well.
The disagreement was also not in the same degree in every parameters of what should be considered as spam. For example, many providers were OK with posting invoice # for double the resource but were against giveaway.
It's a complex scenario and the thread shouldn't be taken as representation of the whole providers in my opinion.
Providers want money and ratio of spent dollar 1:100. Customers want everything and vps ratio > @itachikonoha said:
It is not complex as you try it to describe. Spam is spam. That’s it.
Define spam.
Its a delicacy in many parts of the world. A firm yet globby pink mass that tastes delicious grilled, fried, or straight out of the can... sorry couldnt resist.
..More on topic.. why is this provider exempt from some of the "proposed" rules here while all the other providers still have their threads locked down?

It has worked nice for marketing for them though as I wasnt aware of the provider before and now I am.
Not only them, see the second list of recent spam threads that are still open:

These kind of trolling replies actually doesn't build a constructive discussion.
Spam is subjective in nature. For example, even in jsg's thread, among the providers who opined the same, but they had difference in what constitutes as spam.
My request, if you are quoting me, please give the replies in context and not these type of trolling comments.
The main problem here is that you are trolling. It is mild attempt, not sophisticated or complex in nature.
Let's disassemble your failure:
Overall, you should respect others and their point of view. "Trolling", "define this and that". Majority members very well understand what topic defines and what new rules impose. Do not play fool and do not search for such members in this forum.
Nice to login here and not have 2000+ notifications just because I made 1 comment on a thread 2 months ago.
I will disassemble your argument:
This whole issue is arising because people have different view on what constitutes the basics i.e. "spam" in this case. Even in jsg's thread, there are different opinion on what constitutes as spam. If you want to ignore it for your own agenda, then that's your prerogative but doesn't prove anything.
Quote my words and explain how I twisted.
I am not playing for any gallery. You may see it that way because our eyes sometimes see what we want to see but that doesn't portray the reality. If you feel that way, then be may it but those are not my concern.
If I've disrespected someone, then I apologies for it. It's nothing personal but while expressing my views, if someone got hurt, then I convey my apologies. Meanwhile,
these one liner posts doesn't contribute towards a healthy discussion while dismissing the view of the other person.
On this comment... Vanilla is really lacking in this regard.. wish there was a way to auto truncate quote depth or have a "dont notify me if my quote is N levels deep".
In some thread(s) many of us were removing quote chains because some of them got so deep and people kept getting notifications without wanting them. I see the annoyance

Still open.
Please allow me to take a moment to update you, as much as I can.
There has been a lot of work put into implementing these new measures for well over a year. The staff have been drafting proposals and they are being reviewed. Once approved (assuming they are), please rest assured that they will be unilaterally implemented. We will update you once the proposals are finalized and an understanding has been reached.
Thank you for your continued feedback, and no, I am not just saying it, I mean it.
It's reopened.
Balls are traded for VPS.
😂 is this like the constitution or something? This needs a meeting and proposals drafted to agree to stop brands from gamifying spamming to stay at the top of the 1st page?
Purple daddy must have been unhappy 😡
Similar promises were made in the past and the thread was been made literally invisible. .
It is one thing to say things are being reviewed in the background. But it's another thing to claim such is happening without time boxing and providing transparencyin what is being reviewed and its current status.
Its an inherent loophole which has been used to exploit and cover up in the past.
I also hope that there isn't a third thread created in succession in 2026 discussing and reviewing the best way to move forward.
Highly likely there will be, humans by nature can find loopholes in rules and regulations.
Yup. Someone will find a loophole and then the community leaders will go into reviewing that and the cycle will continue.
Forget about the loophole for a minute. It's more about enforcement. If the action is a slap on the wrist like suspension for 24 hours, does no difference to provider.
But again, who knows.
Exactly
It might be nice to have the ability to have provider/niche specific cest pits if they want for long running general chitchat, maybe that don't clutter up the main thread list unless you subscribed to it.
I can think of at least one other long running thread that would be a good candidate.
That is why I had in mind too. But problem is the LET audience probably does not care to read and blindly post regardless.
So there's that.
Ahahah the $$ talks, the mods need to shut up. The boss Racknerd come and the threads re-open. The big balls @Arkas are not too big but like smarties
Only the boss got the threads back? Others no?
Double
Exactly. In our case I just tried to do tongue-in-cheek offer threads that mimicked the big dog. At first, I had threads sunk. Now, it's just what many providers do.
Internally and with colleagues I joke that you can just offer some $5 account credit and have people enter to win it by bumping needlessly and yo> @yoursunny said:
To be fair, it looks like all the threads that got closed are re-opened, not just Purple and Co.
Mine was locked and it appears re-opened as well ( https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/201471/incognet-5-gbps-epyc-kvm-servers-in-4-great-locations-feature-packed-shared-hosting-win-50#latest)
I kind of like this idea. Like a provider specific thread if they chose to open one.
It sounds like what i am hearing too though is that people are generally annoyed that cant easily ignore these threads they dont want to participate in.
They always pop up in the discussions main page. Like if there was some way to just hide it for people and they can pretend it never existed... many complaints might(?) vanish. That doesnt account for how some of it is wasted database space though..
with all these suggestions piled up from last year's "Humans only" and this year's "from now on" all i got to know is vanilla forums isn't sophisticated enough to have these changes and no one including the community and staff have enough time and patience to modify the already messed up code which is called vanilla the only viable options are enforcing rules. Since these type threads(the messy trolling spam nest called RN threads) and comments destroy the SEO and mood of general people. Please ping me here once we have the new set of rules reviewed and finalized to be published, would be a good read for me and it might a driving force much needed here.
Mine remains closed: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/196415/from-14-95-yr-10gbps-ssd-frankfurt-new-jersey-los-angeles-miami-many-payment-methods/p1
I don't necessarily have a problem with changes to the rules, but quite clearly, such changes should be the same for everyone - which is why it's a bit frustrating that other threads were indeed re-opened.
If a mod/admin could do the needful to the above thread, I'd be very appreciative.
Good catch.
The rules need to be applied equally. Probably just human error, but this is what to expect when Vanilla is so limited in it's features.
Hell, my giveaway was over well over a week ago anyway. I'm fine with mine being closed, the contest is done and over and has been. Gave away a little account credit and had front page coverage for 10+ days. I've joked internally to colleagues / peers that you could probably do a giveaway for $2 via PayPal and have people bumping the thread hoping to win it. Cheap marketing and brand awareness for literal dollars.
I asked ChatGPT (HuMaNs OnLy, hrr drr) what forum options exist that have native or well supported import options from Vanilla... It seems to suggest: phpBB, Flarum, Discourse, and NodeBB.
Besides LET and LES, I don't know of any active communities that use Vanilla. If the software doesn't support the goals of the adminstration and community, a serious consideration to changing to something else shouldn't be off the table.
Service providers make changes to software stacks all the time. Providers for years running OpenVZ and Solus wise up and migrate to KVM and VirtFusion or Virtualizor. People migrate to / from DirectAdmin and cPanel often. Users will survive a migration from Vanilla to a software that supports the goals of the site.
Hello,
This present simple one-page discussion layout dont offer any flexibility do anything.
New Hosting offers will suffer if you wish to reduce spam
Better forum management platforms like phpBB / vb or such may give you more flexibility in managing categories and then interduce some offer tier and rating systems.
Possibilities are endless when you consider some changes to this present layout.
Thanks.
Now, do you expect the community leaders will run the proposed rules by the community members and seek feedback?
I wish. But I feel that will 💯 add additional time as the feedback will need to be reviewed and pondered and thought about.
I am all OK to have community members chime in but only if it is a time boxed exercise at both ends.
Ways things have been done, rules may end up looking cool on paper but the enforcement will be down the hole.
The end result will probably be 0 gain to the users....
There is always this clause thrown thay the mods and admins are doing this voluntary and honorary
Sure. I applauded them for devoting their time and patience
That does not give them the liberty to take all the time in the world to figure out the right course of action. The plan should be made in bite sized pieces with actual and fair enforcement across the board.
