@MechanicWeb - I see. I can pass on a +1 for AlmaLinux from you to our team who handles our standard images. But I can't promise anything. They make decisions on which images to use based on which ones are the most popular. Maybe if enough customers write support tickets requesting AlmaLinux as a standard image, it would encourage them to consider it more seriously.
@nanankcornering - If you haven't gotten a Hetzner Status report or seen one when you are logged onto Robot/Cloud Console, please write a support ticket for our networking team. (I have no access to our networking systems and am not a technician.) Our networking technicans may need some information from you to help analyze what is affecting you, which is why it's best to use a support ticket. We post larger incidents here, and I don't see anything listed for August 3. --Katie

Wondering, why there is os image management team on hetzner, but marketing is done only by one person :o

I do know companies with hundreds in marketing and a just few in development/sysadmin/tech management.

I do think the way hetzner is organised is preferable.

Looks like Hetzner is having a very bad month of the year.

Started off with FSN having network issues 3 days ago, now Helsinki is shitting itself to all locations (and it's the weekend).

Even the status page is not updated, yet (40 minutes since issue started)

There are key differences how CentOS 8 handles mdadm RAID vs AlmaLinux at boot time. And I find AlmaLinux is doing a better job at that.

    What difference are you seeing?

And shouldn't they be identical in how this is handled?

Yeah, status page is updated one hour after it happened. And it's still happening until at this point.

I mean, no redundant fibers at all? Or maybe use backup upstreams or exchanges?

Hi guys, Thanks for posting the Status messages. I'm sorry about the recent networking issues. Sometimes our networking team is so focused on finding, diagnosing, and solving the networking issue at hand that they get tunnel vision. That's my best guess for why there is sometimes a delay between the beginning of the issue and the appearance of a Hetzner Status report -- or between the initial Status report and a more detailed update. This is not an excuse. Our team is aware that we need to work on improving communication, and I will pass on your feedback to them. --Katie

Thanks a lot for the consideration. Besides, CentOS 8 is an all time beta. Using it in production is risky.

    It does not honor mdadm.conf

CentOS 8 is a beta, RedHat's development branch. It won't have any consistency.

CentOS 8 and AlmaLinux 8 should be identical in their handling of mdadm.conf. If they aren't, then Alma has a bug that should be reported.

CentOS 8 is a beta, RedHat's development branch. It won't have any consistency.

Where are you getting this info? As a hosting provider, you should really know this stuff.

CentOS 8 is not a beta, and it's not Red Hat's development branch. CentOS 8 is intended to be 100% compatible with RHEL 8 -- exactly like all the other CentOS releases before it.

Are you writing about CentOS Stream? If so, that's a completely different animal.

Hi LET readers -- just a few updates:

Hetzner Cloud now has Centos Stream 8, Rocky Linux 8, and Debian 11.

And today we added a new feature we call Global Search. It lets you quickly find and navigate directly to the cloud resource your're looking for with just a few quick keystrokes.

Debian 11 is also now available on Robot for dedicated root servers.

  • @Hetzner_OL you guys just rejected my account. Can you please take a look? I have used my real IP and sent my passport.

  • Hetzner_OLHetzner_OL Member, Top Host

Hi there @sayem314 - As a member of the marketing team, I don't have access to that system. Our sales technicians make decisions regarding new accounts. There are all sorts of thins that might raise red flags with a new account. If you can think of any good explanations for any possible red flags with your account, please feel free to respond to their last email. However, if they do not respond, please accept that as a "no", and as their final answer. We receive hundreds of fake orders/accounts each week, and it's not always easy to tell the difference between a real account and a fake one. If we're unsure, we make the safe decision and reject the account. That means that we lose some business, but that we prevent more abuse. --Katie
