Sadly not Ashburn, unless they've somehow managed to get ~3 ms latency between Falkenstein -> Nuremberg, then to the US.

like @aqua said, the routes haven't been set, because the us network or the dc is not ready

    Probably Aschheim or Aschaffenburg.

but why a complete new asn (AS213230) for another location in .de ?

i bet we will soon see some us ix peerings pop up on the new network

No, isn't in the US. ASH does not mean Ashburn.

I'm planning to place my first order on hetzner and am not sure if downgrading is possible.

For example, I want to get a 10gb NIC for the first month so I have enough bandwidth for the initial setup but would like to remove that option after that's done. Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

    @Hetzner_OL

  • Just had a 8-minute network outage in FSN. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

    Status page not saying anything.

Yes, I did see the same, both my dedicated server & at least 4 cloud servers I have with them had network troubles around that time.

I did start an MTR using ping.pe when it happend, seems like a part stopped working.

Seems like they're using a separate ASN for Hetzner Cloud. Something like what Google did with Google Cloud.

    | 23.06.2021 16:29:03 | Me: Hello, I can see that you've released that: https://ash1-speed.hetzner.com/ Is that related to a new region in USA?
    | 23.06.2021 16:31:20 | Hetzner Agent: We currently have no plans to offer Datacenter in the USA.

At least that's clear. Hetzner/Hetzner Cloud won't be available in USA.

For those Hetzner Cloud fans out there who haven't heard yet, there is a new feature: Apps

Katie, you want me to move all my bare metals from OVH to Hetzner?

    1. Fix your ddos protection
    2. Open location in Singapore and/or US.

    Thanks

  • yep they will open a US location just to capture that 1/2 rack of market share

  • tr1ckytr1cky Member

@Hetzner_OL do you have a SLA for cloud servers?
    Will you compensate for downtime?

  • skorupionskorupion Member, Host Rep

@Hetzner_OL whats your fair share cpu policy

  • Hetzner_OLHetzner_OL Member, Top Host

@jordynegen11 -- Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass that onto my colleagues. Our DDoS protection system is designed for the average user. Customers with bigger anti-DDoS requirements can still take extra security precautions on their servers on their own. Or they may find it more convenient to use a provider that specializes in providing custom anti-DDoS solutions.
Singapur or the USA -- It's good to have feedback about where our customers would like us to expand to. So thanks for that. We do not have outside investors. That means that we expand a bit more slowly than some competitors, but we expand carefully. We don't announce any news about possible expansions until the ink is dry on all the necessary contracts. ;) As soon as that happens with our next location, we will publish that information on all of our social media channels and the forums where we're active.

    @databoss -- You think there'd only be a 1/2 rack's worth..?

@tr1cky -- Please see our System Policies here https://www.hetzner.com/rechtliches/cloud-server/ and our Terms and conditions here: https://www.hetzner.com/rechtliches/agb/

@skorupion -- To the best of my knowledge, we have never published a fair share CPU policy. I suggest that you look at the System Policies that I mentioned above. And if you have other specific questions about whether your planned use case would fall under 'fair use', please write a support ticket via Cloud Console if you're a customer. Or you can ask our technicians by clicking on the red chat icon in the bottom right corner of this page here: https://www.hetzner.com/cloud

Taking extra security precautions (Of course we do) will not work if a simple UDP attack utilizes the 10gbit downlink on my Hetzner server. There is a lot to improve for you. Is it true you don't advertise with ddos protection anymore?

But as I said, you improve that? I bring all my servers to hetzner. Really like your price/performance.

@Hetzner_OL Do you have any plan to include AlmaLinux 8 in your OS list?

It seems you have CentOS 8 but not 7

Katie!! The poor new IP prices gonna make us all cry :( :(

Is it possible to order cloud servers without public IPs?
In my orchestration, many public IPs are not used

Shitstorm incoming. These new prices are ridiculous.

won't change anything anyway. they probably rather bring back cheaper pricing for the dedis itself or if we're lucky we'll see a bit more stuff to consider in serverboerse. but that's about it.

I really really dont understand why they did NOT work on /48s for their customers before communicating this massive increase in pricing. I mean, there is (atleast for me) a reason i'm going with so many IPv4s because the IPv6-Setup @ Hetzner is (sorry for the vocabular) fucked up.

1 /64 per server. And Hetzner wants to educate me about IPv4 shortages. Thats a fucking joke.

  • FalzoFalzo Member

yeah, lowend vserver with dedicated IPv4 are gonna be more difficult to get. or at least you'll more quickly see who's just reselling rented stuff.

Can someone tell me if I get some floating IP's in Hetzner Cloud, if in the future I upgrade to dedicated (Hetzner Robots), I can just migrate these IP's to the dedicated machine for free and keep paying the "old price" monthly?

  • Hetzner_OLHetzner_OL Member, Top Host

@MechanicWeb - Which set of our OSes do you mean? The standard images for the dedicated servers or the ISO library for Hetzner Cloud? I do not think there are any plans for including AlmaLinux 8 in the dedicated root server standard images, but my colleages can give you more details if you write a support request via Robot. For the ISO library on Hetzner Cloud, if you do not find AlmaLinux 8 there, you can also write a support request and ask the technicians to upload it for you.

  • Hetzner_OLHetzner_OL Member, Top Host

IPv4 prices: After chatting with one of our CEOs today, I wrote some FAQs for Hetzner Docs.

I imagine that these price changes have come as quite a shock, and that that is putting it mildly. We would not be making these changes if we did not feel it was truly necessary. We're not perfect. And if we could use a time machine to go back in time and change things so that we would not be in this situation, we would. But we can't. We are trying to take action now, even though it is like ripping off a band-aid.

@diegoweb - I checked with someone from our support team; you cannot migrate floating IPs from Hetzner Cloud to our dedicated root servers. --Katie

This is what I am suggesting.

There are key differences how CentOS 8 handles mdadm RAID vs AlmaLinux at boot time. And I find AlmaLinux is doing a better job at that.
