I think the real question is. Why would anyone want the Pentium 4 insted of the atom.
P4 at 2.8 GHz may very well be faster than Atom at 1.6 GHz for single-threaded tasks.
Even though P4 are known to be inefficient and their high frequency doesn't really mean a lot, it's a huge almost 2x difference, and Atoms aren't particularly effective either (they sacrifice certain functions and optimizations in the CPU such as out-of-order execution to consume less power, whereas P4 is a full-blown Desktop CPU and it doesn't).
Hi
Can I order hdd upgrades and control panel etc later? I want to try core 2 quad
Yup.. I ordered the core2quad and I got a Q9550, I think it's pretty good for $30/mo
LOL
Have you assembled a computer for yourself?
Why a Celeron if I can buy a Pentium for 1.2 times the price.
Why a Pentium if I can get an i3 for 1.2 times the price.
Why an i3 if I can get an i5 for 1.x times the price.
Etc.
In other words, the hardware price doesn't scale linearly to the performance gained.
Just got both of my Atom servers. WIll run a benchmark and post drive info on both of them.
Downlink is 1gbps, uplink is 100mbps.
Yay, I got Core 2 Duos instead of Atoms!!!

Well considering you upgraded the ram and hard drive on the atom you could get the core2quad for the same price.. but it's nice of WII to upgrade you anyways..
Seems the Core2quad is sold out!! but the atoms has been restocked.
lol. looks like someone's been editing benchmark scripts here and reuploading them on their own website.
Here is some Specs on the drive:
The results seems a bit low compared to the Drives at OVH..
Some lower one from ReliableSite in Choopa

Interesting. I've only seen a few ARM offers. Anybody know what ssd do they use?
@Patrick not bad. Now let's see who will be the first one to benchmarks these
Asked, will let you know :-)
Ordered just to test out the ARM proc, will benchmark it when I get it
I ordered one last Friday. No response since despite two emails to inquire about status. Can't say I recommend them at this moment.
oh yea,that is shove's site
phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=gentoo_arm_x32&num=1
Looks good though for 30$
I saw that deal a while back looks interesting it seems they are using odroid a raspberry PI like device
@earl the odroid is not 4 core 1.7GHz, doesn't have 2GB RAM and doesn't have a SATA port for the HDD/SSD.
edit: Oh, the odroid-X2 is indeed 4 cores @ 1.7GHz and 2GB RAM. Still no SATA. Maybe USB disk?
@rds100
everything else seems to fit except for the hard drive, I'm thinking it's an external USB drive that they use..
here is a how to link for using an external USB:
http://odroid.us/mediawiki/index.php?title=Mounting_Root_File_System_on_External_USB_Drive
If anyone is interested in the specs here is a link to their website, the odroid x2 is selling for $135.
http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135235611947&tab_idx=1
the odroid U2 selling at $89 similar to the X2 model but less USB ports..
http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135341370451
@earl i hope when someone gets one of these he can tell us what is the hardware. Until then - we can only guess
I got a 3.0 ghz P4 with mine

Got a Core2Quad with the 1TB upgrade (I'm kicking myself for not getting another TB now)
9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 076 076 000 Old_age Always - 17952
Not new, but for the price..
@rds100 @earl
My order shows up as "Quad Core ARM Server - Samsung Exynos4412 Prime Cortex A9" if that helps narrow things down
yeah would be interesting to find out.. they did have a odroid model that had a SATA port but it only had 1 gb of ram and the price was $350! I don't think they would be using these..
@wilbo
Not too bad for $20!
$19 :-)
If you wanted it as an addtional drive then I'm sure they will upgrade you no problem, but if you wanted to do software raid then maybe you can ask them if they will reinstall the OS for you?
Hmm.. it does seem to point to the odroid X2, unless there is a similar model with a built in SATA port.
--update
I just inquired with rsnet and it seems that the OS is installed on a flash drive and the hard drive is USB based so yes I think this sever is hosted on the odroid X2.
