Sure. Still doesn't really look good in my eyes to "announce" the full product while your other products are down. Or at least move the "down" products to your online nodes until you sort it out.
Theory. Very cheap also boils down to little to no reserves. Plus I doubt that even quality providers hold a 100% (or even just 50%) reserve for all their systems, disks, etc in stock just waiting for the case of being needed.
Now one might discuss whether a dirt cheap provider should have at least some redundancy and whether even a dirt cheap provider should run his operations in a reasonably sound way, but hell, you and I know damn well that many providers can't resist the temptation to save yet some more pennies.
Agreed.
"evilness": I don't think that I would characterize this thread as evil.
Regarding the YT video, it must have been a slow day at the office: I agree that it was unnecessary, but if such a video was nevertheless deemed desirable, then I would have drawn the line before his wedding (and the accompanying photo), because that concerns his personal/private life.
This said, the video didn't seem like a personal attack.
Even so, there's a sense in which the video seems to want to capitalize on an unfortunate event (by providing a kind of entertainment in order to attract/keep viewers).
Evil? Seriously...
Your facts and logic are so mixed up you're not even wrong.
@cociu posted a picture of his wedding here. It's not like I hacked his home PC to get it. There are dozens of public pictures on his Facebook I could easily have used (I'm not FB friends with him but they're public). Instead, I used something he publicly posted on LET. So putting it in a community video is morally wrong? You're daft.
Also, you're again completely wrong because you don't read when you refer to "BuyVM and it's rules of hosting". Those were my rules on how to respond when something bad happens and I used BuyVM as an example of a provider who had a serious problem and handled it well, contrasted to HS who has a seriously problem and is handling it poorly.
BuyVM had nothing to do whatsoever with that video. You're displaying your inability to comprehend pretty basic facts.
Tell me who?
No seriously, you're the one making this ridiculous charge, so who is it?
I made that video entirely on my own. Didn't discuss making it with anyone. I didn't include any advertising for any provider (which we do in many videos). It's not likely to get a ton of views because unlike our tutorials and "here's a cheap VPS" videos, this one is not really of interest to the general public, so quite literally it was made for this community. So the hidden agenda is...?
Here some reality, which you seem to be utterly divorced from:
You don't know day from night.
I see. Quick shot and then run away covering your ears shouting "nah nah nah" and refusing to respond when your lies and ridiculous nonsense is called out. You're a child.
I used that photo as an example of Marius' deep ties to our community, which makes it all the more troubling that he'd turn his back on us. The guy had a ton of goodwill here, and he threw it away.
Who?
"Involved" in what? I made a video, recapping the events of this thread. I pulled in some other related content (including some I'd generated in other contexts) and included some commentary. The only thing I'm "involved" in creating something for the community to enjoy.
I don't know why Mr. Biloh keeps insisting on them but it seems the videos are intended for a niche that doesn't exist, which is Lowendtalk members who want their content in form of a video instead of directly interacting on the offer/drama/tutorial threads.
Only in the sense that it's interesting community news. It's more than the typical outage given that the word "involucrate" has sprung into existence from it and Marius has long-standing ties to the community.
If we'd been doing YT during the Delimiter datacenter fiasco or the GreenValueHost "fake vice presidents/home raid/hacking into the high school/buyout/going to prison" saga, I would have done videos on those as well because they're interesting.
We do a lot of things that paint providers in a very positive light, such as our interview series. It's not like LEB is the National Enquirer or something.
@jbiloh did not request that video. After seeing "involucrated" on Urban Dictionary I decided the story had developed critical mass and might be a good video.
To date, our YT videos have been (1) tutorials, (2) recaps/news from LEB, (3) videos about cheap hosting (how to get free DirectAdmin, specific offers, etc.) There have been a few that were more "newsy" such as this one, worst TOS, CentOS developments, etc.
To be clear, I'm talking about the entire Youtube effort on LET. There isn't a niche which requests content in video and yet technically competent with the basics of Linux/Windows servers to be able to get a VPS and follow along.
$
Not entirely sure I agree. I see a ton of YT tutorials that are step-by-step tutorials on how to do things, at a variety of difficulty levels. Heck, I've been watching a long, in-depth series on emacs.
Unrelated, proof that of how evil google is

Don't see anything wrong in the video. Seems like people are being drama queen.
I truly admire lowend moral. It is very selective.
I watched that video, Andrew didn't post anything, that wasn't shared in this very forum. Not only that, he even said, Cociu sounds like a good guy. The whole video didn't make cociu sound shady but rather spoke about how he was always "fun" to work with.
Can't please people, who just wants to argue for the sake of argument.
If you paid your landlord rent for 3 year, landlord rents out your apartment to someone else while you were on vacation "because, you weren't there and you weren't expected to be back soon", I am super positive that landlord would end up in a civil lawsuit and no one in their right mind would have taken the landlords side minus a shady lawyer or two.
This story above is exactly the same scenario.
HostSolutions team is intentionally ignoring their paid customers ticket for refund, not communicating, or worst, intentionally falsifying communication, to buy as much time as possible, doesn't sound too kosher.
Unless you are dead/dying/at a place with 0 connectivity, dicking around customers (who paid for their service) is wrong. Legally and morally.
The video was excellent, factual and entertaining. It also wasn't attacking and was sending a positive message that the community hopes the provider gets their house in order. Another great video produced by @raindog308.
As for the YouTube effort overall, over the past year we've invested heavily into many new ideas as part of our effort to give users a reason to keep coming back. As of now the results have been extremely positive (and traffic and user engagement are way up). There's room for both text based and video based tutorials. And seriously, I bet most people have really enjoyed the weekend updates on YT. I know I have.
Keep it up, just need to tone down the background music a bit so voice is clearer.
The video stuck to the facts, if Cociu had made a come back and made amends (communication?), it would have made the video.
Perhaps those who think the video wasn't fair, they could take a stab at it and make another summary video that portrays the truth according to them?
Would be even more fun to get a couple of people from either polarized party (Cociu forever party and Cociu sucks party) and get them talking in a podcast freely.
I skipped to the last page, did anything happen over these 48 pages, or just people bickering?
What is certain is that the affected storage vps has not been restored, cociu still missing...
Fully agree with your (complete) post minus the "intentionally" (ignoring). Not to cover @cociu but frankly I think it's not intentional. Stupid, yes, self-inflicted, yes, knowingly, yes too, but not intentionally.
My reasoning (or maybe more of a wild guess): At the beginning he stayed silent (a) because he assumed that "yet another HostSolutions f_ckup" would have him look really bad and ridiculed, and (b) he thought it'd be solved soon anyway. Obviously he was dead wrong. And the longer the downtime got the more desperate he got as well as less ready to come here and tell us the truth, in part also because he felt f_cked too (after blindly believing what techies told him) and helpless (e.g. re how long it will take to restore normal operations).
But of course no matter what and even if some of us can understand his situation to some degree, one thing is clear: The way he handled the whole thing was horrible and destroying tons of trust even with people who liked him.
I think the video was done well, I enjoyed it, some time was put into it and facts were presented in an easy to follow manner..definitely not evil or libel.
my VPS with cociu have been down according to uptime robot a month. Not holding my breath that it will come back up.

I prepaid for 3 years which I know was a gamble but so be it, I'm glad I didn't do any of those put money and get credit deals he was doing.
I would be leery for anytime his whole business could shut down for those that still have operational machines.
FWIW, the YT video > 48 pages
In all seriousness, it has been fun poking at cociu, and he certainly could be doing a better job communicating, but I feel for the guy. I've been through bad data loss and partial recovery (early in my career) and it sucks when it happens to you. It's also tough to learn good client communication in a corporate setting, nevermind when you're self taught and winging it!
I think @cociu can still make things right, if he just communicates the truth on this thread and to his customers at least every few days, and offers to get users back online soon, even if that's without data recovery, or with reduced capacity for a while. I'm sure some users would appreciate a 100 gig seedbox rather than no seedbox at all...
If the product was ready to be launched (coincidentally during a downtime of the storage) after tests and whatnot, then absolutely he should have launched it. Imagine you are the manager of a company with multiple refineries.
One catches fire but another one in another location is ready to be launched.
Would you start importing the parts through complicated procedures when they dont even fit well because are a newer generation to restart the burnt one or you launch the new one, offer a chance to your customers to refine their oil at the new one instead, even if that involves some moving for which you also offer some compensation?
Quoting yourself. Classy.
I am 99.9999 % sure MS services are used to host or distribute CP, same for amazon and Vodafone and whoever else. Did cociu take it down when he became aware of it? Yes.
No DMCA is not related to CP, it is a controversial practice of willfully ignoring IP rights.
We received tens of spurious ones, including about reviews, quotes and such. About 1 in 10 is actually valid but we are not advertising ignored DMCA, true.
DMCA is there to offer safe harbour and there are many attempts to remove it in order to make hosters pay for what their customers are doing. cociu choose to waiver safe harbour, it is his choice, he will pay the price, his customers will enjoy freedom to infringe IP on his account and risk for pennies and they come and complain later.
Shame on y'all.
I don't happen to agree with his practices and lack of communication, but I can certainly understand the latter. You don't deserve the effort he made and risks he took for you.
Of course other providers will bash him, he did the impossible, offers an acceptable service for some scenarios at a third of their price and he defied their "warnings" and "predictions" for many years so they kick him while he is down because they couldn't when he was up and able to fight.
If I were cociu i would be back (not DMCA ignore but make sure only real ones are considered) just to shame the other providers, much richer, much more knowledgeable with my shed of SH servers, not making any money, just to prove you can do a service to the community in spite of the hate.
Hm..
One more question:
Will it be a shared unicorn, a virtual one, or dedicated?
This is my first page to open every work day morning.
It is like "morning post" with a good cup of coffee
Now the major point in this history will be Borta's trial in bancruptcy case at 01.07.2021.
Good morning! 🌞🥓🍳🥐
What would jesus do?
He would be back!
Glad to see that @Maounique is really back. This place might become nice again!
Let see what @cociu decided/decides.
If I'd be him (glad I'm not, too much respect for sisters!), I wouldn't run his operation just to show some rich assholes that this stuff can be done. I don't understand all the hate from some providers here, though.
It would be fair for @cociu do to some profit, even though he stays cheaper than the bigger players because he offers another kind of service. Not sure he'll be able to if he is in deep financial trouble. Of course it would be great if HS was able to survive this incident involucration.
I do understand it. cociu sinned in many ways:
Some critique is valid. No DMCA policy is plainly illegal, his (lack of) communication skills, his patchy understanding of the technical details, his (sometimes unwarranted) optimism and his cvasi-autistic answer to this crisis.
It is possible he has failed, and that was not hard to predict, but calling him a scammer is totally over the top and I am sure if he were american or german he would have been treated better.
