20 cent euro is not enough reason for me to be bothered scanning & sending an ID. I only consider if its a financial account with $100+

That's some what worrying but any way Nice to know the fact and here in India and many countries that's the reality

I just used their 10 EUR trial voucher to create a bunch of 1EUR VMs in their different datacenters and performed some benchmarks with them.
Basically their service seems pretty decent. Let's see how long they will maintain that low price.

    DC 1 Italy: http://pastebin.com/QFa9chEt

    DC 2 Italy: http://pastebin.com/dXMcT5be

    DC 3 Czech Republic:

    DC 4 France: http://pastebin.com/ERNXUc80

    DC 5 Germany: http://pastebin.com/TP3rCFEe

    DC 6 United Kingdom: http://pastebin.com/7D5aVujn

Node in Germany still seems to have storage issues (only getting 8 MiB/s throughput) while other locations show good 300-600 MiB/s.

Network connection looks very good for me. Most locations are routed via Level3 or Cogent for me. I think I'd prefer their main Italian datacenters.

Last but not least, here some additional ServerBear benchmarks:

    DC 1 Italy: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/11/10/nqUxmKgceNjMGPyX

    DC 2 Italy: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/11/10/CgIyIfCGmhe8t8Eb

    DC 4 France: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/11/10/2ObFzIcAwEXjSLop

    DC 5 Germany: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/11/10/boBOLVSpYwBr7vVU

    DC 6 United Kingdom: http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2015/11/10/iX3HONeW8t2qaOBw

  • @dfroe No serverbear for dc3 ?

Unfortunately DC 3 in CZ is very unstable at least for me (coming from DE). My SSH connection resets every other minute. I was unable to complete either speedtest or serverbear (well, missed screen for speedtest but serverbear with nohup did not finish yet within 2 hours). Traceroute shows that their DC is routed via aorta.net (UnityMedia, Liberty Global's German sub-company) which is probably one of the worst backbones here in Germany. Currently I am only receiving TCP RST as answer to any TCP SYNs on port 22. Cannot say for sure whether this is a temporary problem with ArubaCloud or with UnityMedia backbone.

Vor gut ~2 Monaten hat es vom Netz der Telekom noch einwandfrei funktioniert, habe es seitdem nicht mehr getestet.

DD seems fine in Germany, at least with my VPS:

    dd if=/dev/zero of=sb-io-test bs=1M count=1k conv=fdatasync
    1024+0 records in
    1024+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 1.10161 s, 975 MB/s

Storage in DE seems to highly vary from time to time. When I did my tests a few hours ago, I got only 8.8 MB/s. Now I have 365 MB/s. Maybe too many dudes performing stupid dd tests at the same time. :O I am still not able to SSH into my CZ VPS. After trying to hard reset to VPS, the dashboard shows 0% progress for my reset action after 5 minutes. Looks like something at ArubaCloud is broken. I can try and post speedtest and serverbear for DC after the VPS is back online again.

Here are some traceroute snippets: http://pastebin.com/mmG9WSMc
You may subtract ~20 ms RTT due to VDSL interleaving.
I have seen worse connections. :)

I think from my tests I would choose either IT2 (Milano) or UK (London).

Both showed solid performance, disk as well as network.

  • IT1 & IT2 are in Arezzo - not Milano. From my tests, IT1 is slightly better when it comes to routes (less asymmetric hops)

  • CZ EU speedtest

You're right. I found that information regarding Milano on some 3rd party website, but in fact both are located in Arezzo.

For me coming from Telefonica Germany the routing two both DCs is similiar (peering with wind.it at DE-CIX) but DC2 has 5-10 ms lower latency.

Here I found slides with some facts about their Italian datacenters:
    http://www.slideshare.net/Aruba-spa/aruba-data-center-30042052

Their main website (aruba, not arubacloud) has some further information about their DCs:
    https://datacenter.aruba.it/en/data-center/united-kingdom-dc-uk1.aspx

So FR, DE, UK are owned by Equinix.

This is LET. Unfortunately we have seen often that when providers post offers here they get DDoSed. Same reason most providers won't post test IP in public.

  • Maybe for the whole Europe Germany is a better location? The good thing about the Milan DC is that they own it.

    Thanked by 1webcraft
  • They own both Arezzo-IT (close to Rome) and Ktiš-CZ (in Bohemia, close to the Germany-Austria border) ; no datacenter in Milano. Their other locations in Equinix datacenters are Slough west of London-UK, Saint-Denis a northern suburb of Paris-FR; and in Frankurt, Germany.
