  • @dacentec: any new configurations still expected for 20-25$/month (other than the current ones: X3440 8TB, Opteron 1381 8TB, Opteron 1385 16GB) ?

Anyone able to see/test connectivity to Australia?
I don't want to pick one up and find pings over 300ms and only 500k/s speeds.

Some hardware might not be getting the gbit connection negotiated, as I see that half of your connections maxed out at a 100 mbit speed.

Could be a bad network cable.

    I noticed that too! ;)

Hey, hey, reserve a L5420 RTO for me :P
Just found that my X5150 has 10 fans running in chasis :D

Edit: I'm unlucky, They just removed the server I saw yesterday when I went there to grab :(

  • bohdansbohdans Member

    @winne Thanks for that :)

  • Server was provisioned within 24 hours including the /29. Nice, considering I ordered it on Sunday night. I also like the control panel.
How did you guys set up your mdadm softraid, I cant' find an option the the CP for this. Do I need a KVM console if I want to mirror everything including boot/root?

You need to request a KVM then a good idea would be to ask them to connect a bootable USB then do the install manually.

How do you guys check RAID status on those servers?

Just wondering why you feel the CPU is lacking?

  • If you want to soft-raid the root FS you will have to do a custom install since the templates don't support a mdadm root FS. See my post just a few posts ago.

Well, I don't mean it's bad, it's just not "that" good comparing to the big disk and good network XD

Still fast enough for idling. If you had any plans for doing something that requires a faster CPU you probably wouldn't have rented this server anyway ;-)

    Indeed.

Without it there is no way to check Raid status??
I am not that expert to do all that, so would prefer not to break the server.

Since they are setting up servers in RAID1, I guess one would expect it to have necessary tools.

  • I wanted one.. :(

When you use the provisioning tool in the Dacentec panel there's an option to set Software RAID 1 for the install. The cat /proc/mdstat will show something like:

    cat /proc/mdstat
    Personalities : [raid1]
    md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdb1[1]
    498368 blocks super 1.2 [2/2] [UU]

    md1 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdb2[1]
    1952883520 blocks super 1.2 [2/2] [UU]

Ah. I guess I was comparing it to the ~$20 Kimsufi KS-3. Certainly some tradeoffs between the two. I just figured the CPUs were about the same level of performance.

  • andrewnandrewn Member

@Umair: your server is not configured with RAID at the moment. If you want it you will need to reinstall with RAID as @sin mentioned.

It looks like GTT fixed a problem with 216.126.192.0/21 being filtered this morning, that network should work normally now.

  • OliverOliver Member, Host Rep

What's the deal with HostBill? I had an order marked fraud, support fixed it and now it's pending but there's no invoices in the system? I am waiting on support but just wondering if this is normal for hostbill or if there is something else wrong with my order?

  • dacentecdacentec Member, Host Rep

@oliver: I'm sure that sales/support will get you figured out.

  • OliverOliver Member, Host Rep

@dacentec yes I am sure of that as well and am waiting for them now, it's just the behaviour of HostBill is new to me as I never used it before (as a client or supplier). :)
