I thought using DHCP was not mandatory on IPv4 (unlike on IPv6)...

    Its not?

you're not allowed to transfer these, right? would essentially just be like an informal deal?

You can't transfer them to a different account, but you can switch over full control over the server via the "Outsourcing" feature, the new user will be able to boot/reboot/reinstall/monitor it in their panel, while you will keep a limited read-only view of it, and still handle all financial matters (i.e. have to pay the monthly fees to Online.net).

I'm guessing there could be legal/moral issues with doing this though? Even though outsourcing could be activated, any illegal activity (torrents, porn, etc) would be my responsibility rather than the person I'm outsourcing to?

Just wondering as I've had a request to sell a server to someone.

Online.net support said that the person you outsourced the server to will receive abuse messages.

The outsourced person can order Windows though, which will be put on your credit card (there was a thread a while ago).

I'll probably keep mine or cancel it when I upgrade to an XC. Don't really want my card being charged for reinstalls.

if they can provide centos 6 that will be more great OnlineJulien

Unfortunately this is not planned for the moment.

  • Is there a way I can keep myself apprised of such deals all the time, across various providers, as in receiving an alert when something like this comes in the market?

Can i use joodle methods to create new template?

I don't think so, you'll have to create one using proxmox or something like that. Or use the template from the link I provided.

    Yes you can :)

    Anyone noticed any issues?

    Melbourne - Manchester, UK

    Linode/Telecity - London, UK

    RansomIT - Sydney, Australia

Have a server behind this router, didn't notice any problems with service/connectivity. Seems some sort of redundancy is in place which is pretty sweet for these 2EUR deals!

The router is not obligated to answer pings, i.e. typically it's the lowest possible priority task for them (and handled by the weak CPU, rather than by the custom ASICs used for the actual routing). You might as well remove the router from ping monitoring, it shows nothing, monitor just the actual servers you use. And no, on my graphs of ping to my servers there are no issues.

I didnt notice any issues either and throughput was in the area of the average fluctuation.

  • Does anyone have one they would like to transfer? I will pay.

    SmokePing.

Jumping to a conclusion of something being amiss was probably bad judgement on my part, but I think it's still useful to have them monitoring on there.

This happens every evening, from my home connection:

  • re: smokeping, I usually use the one on dslreports.

I have slow speeds to those servers during evening hours CST myself. I'm not running anything important there though, so it's not really an issue for me to just bump the # of FTP connections up to 10 or 20.. heh. Unsure about exact #'s with latency & packetloss, I guess I'll run an mtr or something and check it out over the next few days.

anyway, if they ever do something about the ability to buy OS'es (and whatever else.. extras, IPs?, dunno) when a server is 'outsourced', I'd have four extra... but not going to give them to someone I don't know while this is possible

  • I have one idle Kidechire , if anyone interested pm me.

  • From what I understand you can not transfer these on another account.

  • default said: From what I understand you can not transfer these on another account.

you can "rent" them though. via that outsource thing.

  • You can but watch out for charges if anyone orders a chargeable OS.etc
