Their panel a bit buggy. This is what has worked for me:
This works maybe 90% of the time for me, which is the best success rate I've managed to achieve for mounting ISOs using HostHatch's panel.
Occasionally the "stop" command seems to be delayed a lot, so don't click it twice unless you're really sure it didn't work the first time. I've had cases where the VPS shut down part-way through Debian installation because I clicked the stop button twice and the second "stop" command was delayed by a minute or two.
I installed one VM with Debian 10 image initially. I had subsequently re-installed this VM using ISO. But the control panel still had it tagged with "Debian 10 image".
Got an email, wherein I found this confusing -
Welp, I ignore the email = I take no action = access to my VM will be restricted ( ? )
just to be safe, I just backed up the entire VM -> reinstalled a random non-debian 10 image from the panel (to change the OS tagged in control panel) -> restored my backup
I'm curious about that myself. All my servers were installed via ISO however some of them were initially setup with the debian template because you have to select something when purchasing and that's the distro I use.
I would open a ticket and ask but I'm already stressing out about what to get my existing unanswered tickets for Valentines day and I don't want to have to buy another gift.
Thanks, stopping the VM did the trick!
In cases like this I find the path of least resistance is to setup the OS in a virtual machine locally and then
dd
it into place. It also removes the need to trust the provider’s VNC and ISO systemI don't think so. Instead, this is likely a "If no action is taken [and your VPS is compromised and is constantly causing high load] we might have to restrict access to your VM from our end until fixed."
I didn't know this could be done without relying on the provider's VNC system.
I'm interested to know more. Can you please tell step by step how-to?
I am a millenial. I still use port knocking with SSH port changed.
If this does not work, try pick netboot.xyz ISO and install Debian from there. That happened to me, uploaded ISO was broken (it worked before but not now), but cannot delete (got 5xx error) to upload the new one. Cannot mount this uploaded ISO, machine even does not boot. Cannot choose Debian netinst (it's CloneZilla, I think some typo with Copy&Paste - might be you're right, the second Debian netinst might be the actual one). So yeah, try Netboot.xyz if other options do not work.
Yeah, netboot.xyz is a good choice.
If you can't get an ISO to mount properly at all, you can usually boot into netboot.xyz via iPXE (https://netboot.xyz/booting/ipxe/), usually if you connect to VNC and press escape quickly enough during the boot then select the iPXE option.
Otherwise, you can boot into it via GRUB:
grub-imageboot
usingapt install grub-imageboot
. This will automatically add any ISOs in/boot/images/
into your GRUB menu whenever you update GRUB/boot/images/
(eg usingwget https://boot.netboot.xyz/ipxe/netboot.xyz.iso
)update-grub2
grub-reboot
to explicitly reboot into it (check which entry it is in/boot/grub/grub.cfg
, then usegrub-reboot 3
where3
is the number of the entryNow we are at 2 months with no reply on my BGP request ticket.
He mentioned something about it here:

Interestingly, about 2 hours after I posted here, I got a (very nice) reply.
We need more ticket numbers posted here.
That's nice. I post here daily and get 0 replies.
@hosthatch How's HK going? Better or worse than other new locations?
Ironically, I did not post my ticket number here (Maybe some other customers will learn...)
Have they provisioned all other servers ? Mine is yet to be done
@FrankZ
Cool story bro. Stay faggin with em corny comments
I have tickets open for a month!
Really regret purchasing from this provider!
Just curious, ticket for?
Unable to delete and upload custom ISO.
I always go for custom iso to avoid issues like the one we are having now..
So I think this feature of ISO could be used to load porn ISO anonymously, and then copy the data onto the storage server, successfully avoiding moms/dads/wives/friends/priests tracking.
Use curl or hoppscotch (remember to enable proxy) to make an HTTP request on
https://manage.hosthatch.com/api/v1/server/<YOUR_SERVER_ID>/iso/remove
with DELETE method and the correct XSRF token and authentication cookies, then things should start to work!
Hello LET, long time no see!
I am Emil and I am one of the original co-founders of HostHatch and head of all technical infrastructure, and recently got back full time after spending a few years at Google and another project.
Normally you do not see much of me as I am working on our infra, but our COO Abdullah (@hosthatch) is currently away due to personal/health reasons (and has been a bit inactive past month or so). As Abdullah mentioned earlier - we are hiring new additional team members to handle support better. However this was delayed because of him being away, but we have finalised the people we are bringing on. They will make an amazing support team. I am also well aware of the issues that you are facing after the extreme influx of customers we have had recently. That combined with Abdullah + another important staff member going on an unexpected leave caused some significant delays (not to mention the SolusVM template issue), and for that I am very sorry. I will get back here with more information further down the road but for now I want to focus on helping everyone that needs support.
We are currently working through our queue from highest to lowest priority. Unfortunately I will not be able to catch up with every reply in this thread, but feel free to email me at emil at hosthatch.com and I will do my best to help you out personally as soon as possible (please include ticket ID if you have one open).
I know some of you are waiting for BGP, which I was supposed to be fully focused on, but due to the above reasons I have to focus on our tech support queue and assisting the support team. Everyone with a BGP ticket currently on hold should see a response from me with updates within a few days.
As a final note I just want to say that we are in our 10th year of operation, so we're not going anywhere, and since I just back to HostHatch with a lot of new experience and knowledge in my backpack, things will only change for the better.
Thanks for your continued patronage, I am very excited to bring a ton of improvements to HostHatch in the years to come.
Emil
Hi Emil, and welcome back ;-)
Glad to see you here and standing in for your team. Fair warning: Brace for impact!
While @Abdullah mentioned personal issues earlier in this thread be aware that this is a place were people go a long way for drama and rumors. So expect a lot of things being thrown at you.
That said, I hope you manage to figure things out and that @Abdullah can find some rest to get well and be back soon.
Maybe also reach out to @FAT32 to get a provider tag next to your name and maybe add a signature stating who you are, so people can see better how/why you are involved...
Best of luck!
@Falzo Thank you!
Good idea, done and done
I have the same issue (https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/3200784/#Comment_3200784), don't bother create ticket, just use netboot.xyz. You can use other options as Daniel15 mentioned above. For debian, another option is https://github.com/bohanyang/debi, it's completely open sourced and you can modify it in whatever way suits you. Of course having the ISO upload functioning normally is perfect, having support on time is perfect, but it is what it is, let try to overcome it in different ways.
I hope OP to recover and be back soon
Great news. Thanks!
Hope Abdullah gets well soon.
