Since yesterday 1fichier is sending emails about enforcing 2 TB cold storage. Giving user's 14 days to remedy. Bye 1F.

It has been no secret that 1Fichier has been changing their ToS to 2TB cold storage.
You can still keep unlimited hot storage (or atleast 100TB) for 60 days. Using it for website backups that's more than enough having 60 days worth of backups.

I mean, 2TB for 0,84€ per month..this is still a huge deal if you can live with their odd FTP system or build upon their APIs. I’ve been using them for backups of backups and could not be happier. I’m even OK if they start deleting old backups once they become cold storage.

60 days? They delete cold storage after 60 days?

After 60 days the cold storage is frozen.

    Meaning?

If you exceed 2TB in cold storage, you won't be able to add more and need to remove storage so you get under the limit again. Or just download your "cold storage" once every 60 days and make it count as "hot storage" and use 100TB storage.

    Well

    Here is an idea

Buy the plan and use upto 100tb cold storage and store links in a database and set up cron jobs to extract download links and partially download the file 10-15mb so the counter of 60days resets and profit

    can you share the script?
I try download using wget and piping to dd for limiting the size but can download from list of link that I put in a file, only can download 1 link...

I do not know if there is some premade linux script using 1fichier api that could do this. It would be interesting to have such a github project that can get the file list and attempt to download each file for 1 second to /dev/null.

Evil 1fichier! How dare they limiting a dirt cheap product to a - quite reasonable - amount of storage?!

Not sure but perhaps only successfully completed downloads count. Not entirely sure.

"Statistics are updated every 24h". I think I can refresh something from cold storage without full download, see what happens after 24 hours.

If anyone already tested if files get out of cold storage without full download, it would be great to provide the information.

Let's all behave nicely so police will no longer exist, humanity will evolve in an altruistic and positive maner, profits will have no meaning and no value, and even divinity will have so much compassion that we will get transformed into greater divinities.

  • So i have about 5TB of data in my fichier, and 2.76TB were cold storage.
Today i log in and apparently these 2.76TB are now gone, but no files disappeared. Basically they turned into hot storage even though i never downloaded them.

Did this happen to somebody else?

  • Cold storage rates were added!

However, it is much more economical to just create another account since that would be 2TB for 10€/year :) (making it 0.41€/TB vs 2€/TB monthly)

Looks like I was throwing $15, actually didn't expect to use so much storage but I'd rather not to use it at all.

And what happened to the previous 100 Tb limit of cold storage?

It obviously changed :) Although I believe 100TB was always hot

    Yes

If you pay want to pay at least 50USd or more per month ( 10 usd per month per account) you could get literally unlimited space at Google Drive ..

How ever keep in mind daily upload limits to Google Drive maxes out at 750 GB for each account

Linus tech tip has a good video about this

  • How do you guys send your tiered backups to 1fichier?
Do you use a custom script?

What are "tiered" backups? Never heard the term :S

For non crucial stuff I directly send them via FTP(S) from a backup plugin or whatever. For important stuff I backup via SFTP to my small vps first, then encrypt it and FTP(S) it to 1Fichier.

I mean a backup of the backup (tiered - graded, staggered, terraced).
Do you have a script which encrypt the archive and the send it to 1fichier via ftp?

Is there a way to create folders using there ftp?
