    If you do end up using a lot of data regularly, well, most hosts will do something about it.

    It's pretty normal for businesses to offer unsustainable deals. I highly doubt your bank booted you for using the free account without giving back, nor did your supermarket ban you for taking the $1 turkey and buying the stuffing elsewhere.

    Just ask Hetzner in advance whether they are cool with you pushing 300TB of files through your 20€ server every month ("even if I order 100 of them??"), and if they say yes, enjoy the ride.

    It's part of their business plan and not yours to worry about. :)

    There's a long history of "all you can eat" restaurants banning customers for eating all they can.

  • My Hetzner CX11-CEPH vps speed decreased 150MB/s to 30MB/s

    Must be some network issue unrelated to hetzner. Still maxing my connection.

  • i rented a server two hours ago from them and i think i am going to ask my money back...

    only getting 10-15Mb/s from ovh

    30Mb/s from frankfurt datapacket

    10Mb/s from frandfurt FDC

    and even 44MB/s from own hetzner....

  • Personally I've not noticed any difference yet, but I guess it may only be a matter of time before the network gets congested

    I would say that there is something wrong with your server, get in touch with the support, or try in rescue mode, because i can't confirm that.

    ovh seems good

    Server is from Serverboerse for 24€ incl. vat, so they don't seem to throttle cheaper servers.

  • mine is one of the very expensives... maybe they throttle the other ones.....

    whats your server location:

    Data Center Park Nuremberg, Germany
    Data Center Park Falkenstein, Germany
    Data Center Park Helsinki, Finland
    ??

  • same here, speeds like user54321 and can't complain. FSN1 DC7 (Falkenstein)

    That would indicate to me that you’re likely on a congested switch - potentially ‘uplinks’ are saturated with Customers enjoying their free lunch.

    wget -O /dev/null http://fra.download.datapacket.com/1000mb.bin
    wget -O /dev/null https://speed.hetzner.de/1GB.bin

    [Nuremberg]

    OVH => 5.62 MB/s
    Linode => 28.5 MB/s
    Digitalocean => 1.11MB/s
    Ramnode => 16.7 MB/s
    MikroVPS => 8.02 MB/s
    OVH GRA => 13.9 MB/s
    Leaseweb => 40 MB/s

    Looks like my speeds have taken a bit of a dump, not sure if it's related to the unmetered announcement or just convenient timing for other network issues. Will have to wait and see.

  • FSN1-DC4 here

    I am getting really annoyed with support

    Forget those fancy tests ppl just do single wget to those servers I told and paste here the results

    Bad or Good they will always help on conclusions...

    They are saying that problem could be destination targets... Lol... When datapacket ovh leaseweb worldstream fdc get saturated I imagine what would be on hetzner...

    If you want to make conclusions wouldn't be iperf better, so upload get tested too?

  • This is on an idling E3 9910 benchmark server with SSD disks.

    I remember 50MBps easy during peak! Right now it's off-peak anyway!

  • Now compare this to Vultr London VPS. I know these don't mean much in real-world experience, but I am so annoyed with Hetzner!

    The servers at hetzner have just 1Gbit, your VPS has more, so you comparing apples with bananas.

    But the internal speed looks a bit low at hetzner.

  • Who is the most concerned person about Hetzner's network business? Clouvider.

    I'm not even surprised, Dom :smirk:

    Nah, Dom doesn't compete with the likes of OVH and Heinz, Clouvider is in the league of it's own. And guess what? He fucking won over himself! Clouvider is the best Clouvider across all Clouviders according to independent research by Clouviders.

    Honestly, I think his stuff is great, I'm just a cheapskate <3
