IOMMU window should be 64MB or larger, but whoever set it to 1GB was just asking for odd memory holes.

Same reasoning why after 2 new 750GB drives (at RAID 5), I haven't asked for the 1TB drives yet. :D

I am a data hoarder and Mr El Cheapo I wouldnt resist asking them to upgrade the HW :p.

Tried all values there, none would work...

I set mine to 256MB, and altered other stuff in there, but I don't remember what. Got Debian 9, don't care. :D

I tried to get CentOS 7 working... That was my goal there...
Well, one of the goals :>

Well I guess that's a goal for some ancient hardware with shitty EFI/BIOS.

I rarely give up, but I have given up in this case.
It's really ancient hardware and PITA to deal with.

    Yes. Yes it is.

Having a KVM that only operates in simplex mode doesn't help, though.

  • Other than CentOS 6, what other pre-built OS would work for this machine?

  • WSSWSS Member

READ THE FUCKING THREAD YOU SCRUB.

  • WSSWSS Member

(Pretty much anything- if you can get the KVM to work, and it has a BIOS update, and your time is worthless.)

I did read the thread.. that's why I'm not gonna attempt KVM for now. CentOS 6 EOLs in 2020, so I'll stick with it I suppose

    at least there's this

    [root@dacentec ~]# systemctl
    -bash: systemctl: command not found

    CentOS 6 works while 7 won't work.

That would be why 6 works and 7 doesn't. SYSTEMD FFS.

Huh, I just told him that CentOS 6 works while 7 won't... ? Same would happen with Debian 8 / 9, and it does work.

    I guess so.

My RAID config consisted of 2x2TB HDD RAID 1 + 4x1TB HDD RAID 10 btw.

Yeah. I kept the 750s, as stated above.

I'm not that kind of parental unit. I want to make sure they're doing OK, but they don't need me calling every hour to make sure they're doing the right thing!
