Works here, but I had to access the remote console with Internet Explorer and the .NET option.

Wired, I switched around with Ubuntu 12.04/14.04 and got mine into rescue after about 3 tries.

.. and do not forget to not install smartmontools if you using Ubuntu 12/14/16 on any Dell hardware (i3-530, X3450, L3426). This will triggering a kernel panic at random intervals. I have often experienced it, the server will stop working after a period of hours.

That may well have been my issue with my initial install of Centos 7 on this server. Multiple lock ups with little in the logs to suggest why. Since moving to Ubuntu 14 (half a dozen reinstalls as well, shortest was sub 10 minutes) I've had no such issues but I've also not bothered with smartmontools. Cheers

  • Finally asked for a refund. Fuck this shit

  • Will they enable IPv6 if you ask?

  • RizRiz Member

I ran through the automated installs for changing to raid0 and Ubuntu without a hiccup on two machines. Raid0 is running pretty nice.

    root@hostname2:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync
    16384+0 records in
    16384+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 4.38303 s, 245 MB/s

Yes but it is by dhcp only.

  • How to check disk time?

can't think of something better than installing "smartmontools" and then using sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdX

/dev/sdX might be different depending on your setup

What you want to look for is Power_On_Hours

    1. Do you recommend zfs / other solution for such system?
Mainly to reduce space taken by duplicated linux.iso.
    2. Same question but system has Atom C2750 2.40Ghz 8Gb ram and 1TB hdd?
  • Might be easiest to deduplicate with user scripts instead of zfs. And zfs might be slow on the Atom C2750.

I recommend this post for understatement of the year.

    1. ZFS deduplication requires a large amount of memory. Approximately 20GB of memory per 1TB of storage is recommended.
For this server, I do not recommend using ZFS for deduplication.

    2. Same as 1.

  • thanks for quick answer. I`ll look for another solution...

  • Anyone here using this server for seedbox? How is going the performance?

performance is pretty sweet. easily 110mbyte/s down and easily 50 mbyte/s up. only thing that limits you is online.net bandwidth policy.

Seedbox+Plex。No issue with seedbox. But always 100% cpu to 110%???cpu during stream via Plex。i3-540 4G

If you're transcoding 1080p streams, that's probably in the right ballpark.

Indeed. Thanks for that! It happens when stream mkv directly from firefox. I try to paste the link to mpc-hc for playing. It is cooool. Still need to find a solution to let mpc's traffic goes over shadowsocks (cannot find proxy setting in mpc's menu).

  • I canceled mine now. Going with cociu 1TB special tomorrow.
