    Halifax? Assholes.

Edit: Lloyds, same thing pretty much. I got stung by the same shit for a Usenet subscription. Ended up paying more in fees than I did for the subscription.

    @Jack

Get one of those paypal debit cards. beats bank charges then :) that's how I got around it

  • I just called OVH and they don't know what's going on either... They're gonna investigate and they're gonna call me back once they know what's wrong

I'd be interested if anyone has a Gravelines server, in your network speed tests.
I considered getting one myself, but unfortunately it seems to have 5-10ms worse ping from anywhere I tried. Compare yourself, ping/trace to these IPs: 37.187.20.2 (GRA), 5.39.86.2 (RBX).

I always get good speeds from my GRA atom, better than RBX. I would guess it's because the network is less saturated than at RBX and also I live in the UK so GRA is slightly closer.

The Kimsufi websites shows direct links between London and Amsterdam.

    http://weathermap.ovh.net/schemes/weathermap_backbone.png?1401102097148

But the weathermap doesn't show any links. What gives?

  • Omg... Seems like my Atom server just broke -_-"

Just got this email from OVH

Our monitoring system, has just detected a defect on your server xxxxx-5-39-83.eu (xxxxxx-5-39-83.eu). This defect was noted at 2014-05-26 13:11:05

Do you see any interventions from your control panel?

Yeah, seems like they have disabled monitoring and a hard reboot has been requested (got an email about this also a minute ago)

  • I validated my account successfully but no atoms left :(

From the UK, it might be one special case where GRA is better. But from the rest of Europe, one example... From Amsterdam it gets directly to Roubaix:

     6. et1110-4.RT.TC2.AMS.NL.retn.net 0.0% 4 81.2 85.2 81.2 96.7 7.7
     7. ???
     8. rbx-g1-a9.fr.eu 0.0% 4 92.3 92.2 92.1 92.3 0.1
     9. vss-9a-6k.fr.eu 0.0% 4 92.2 92.4 92.1 93.1 0.5
    10. ks3272965.kimsufi.com 0.0% 4 92.3 92.2 92.1 92.3 0.1

But to Gravelines, it goes to the same router in Roubaix first, then to Telehouse 2 DC in Paris(!!!!), and only then gets to GRA:

     6. et1110-4.RT.TC2.AMS.NL.retn.net 0.0% 5 81.3 81.2 81.0 81.3 0.1
     7. ???
     8. rbx-g1-a9.fr.eu 0.0% 5 92.1 92.4 92.1 92.6 0.2
     9. th2-g1-a9.fr.eu 0.0% 5 94.7 94.8 94.6 95.1 0.2
    10. gra-g2-a9.fr.eu 0.0% 5 99.1 98.9 98.7 99.1 0.1
    11. ???
    12. ks3354321.kimsufi.com 0.0% 5 98.5 98.7 98.4 99.1 0.3

Now take a look at the map: http://www.ovh.com/fr/apropos/datacentres.xml
Does not make a lot of sense to route all the way through Paris here.
