I have a dedicated server with online.net and several servers with OVH/kimsufi. I prefer online.net in terms of hardware quality (real servers, ECC RAM), hardware being monitored all the time, general functionality (panel) and network (performs great for me). And the pricing is just fantastic.

They may have been bad before they opened up their new DC3, but my current server with them renders me nothing but happy. I have no idea about their support, but at least kimsufi is a plague too so it cannot be worse. online.net would have gotten my thumbs up without doubt.

However, the way that their "undercover" representative here chooses his wording is neither mature nor professional. Let's hope that he just had some "Pastis" too much, changes is signature and stops calling competitors "a joke". Then he can surely be a welcomed and appreciated member of this community. Because I really think that online.net has the potential to kick OVH and Hetzner in the butt sometime.

@Sebfm: This is your chance for a new and better start. Grab it! ;)

@Sebfm Why don't you fix the stupid cancellation policy you guys have before coming here and troll about OVH?

Learn from your competitors to make you better, not trolling them by pretending to be another customer.

Nope, I confirm, it doesn't have garanteed bandwidth. It has a max connectivity indicated.

Yeah , we all know, but who can guarantee that with 5 Eur/m? If you do, send me your order link

The Atoms seem to be out of stock at the moment. Let's see when they restock.

  • RazzaRazza Member

@rds100 still in stock on the uk site

  • Isn't every server connected to the network so if there's 300gbps connectivity total, and only 200gbps is being utilised everyone will get 100mbps, but if the network is fully utilised you'll get less than 100mbps (unless you paid for guaranteed bandwidth)?

I'm sure I read that's how OVH have such good prices.

Point is, you don't know how much of those 300 Gbps is allocated to these cheap servers.
    But in general, yeah.

KS-1 still appears to be in stock, not KS-2 though.

I don't believe so. What they offer for 5EUR is incredible. Mine has been up 6 days and here is my usage stats.

    RX bytes:180068055930 (167.7 GiB) TX bytes:2497096054108 (2.2 TiB)

Online.net may be better in some cases but for me Kimsufi provide everything I need at 5EUR, whilst Online.net's nearest offering is 10EUR.

I've always found online's network to be terrible, much prefer ovh's

Not quite. I guess there can be individual slowdowns on certain racks and I think they have traffic management policies in place on transit links.

i agree with @sc754, i tried online 9.99 eur, slow as hell cpu and a shit network

  • rm_rm_ IPv6 Advocate, Veteran

The 10EUR online.net server also has a MASSIVELY worse CPU than the Atom N2800.

One core if I'm not mistaken?

I guess the ones of you complaining about the online.net network have their boxes in DC1 or DC2, right? It seems that they use a better and different network topology in DC3 for the servers > EUR 35.00.

Just one slow core of Via Nano, vs two faster cores with HyperThreading (=4 virtual) on the Atom. And HT will do wonders on typical web loads such as the HTTP server + scripting language + database engine all running at the same time.

The disk speed is also noticeably slower on the nano's, despite being ssd cached now

@sc754 i believe they use 2.5 inch seagate solid state hybrid drives

Same here.. Probably sold out by the time we get validated.

  • BluBoyBluBoy Member

Another non validated... I know this is exactly the level of service we're paying for, but it's still frustrating!

Also without vt-x, what is the performance hit of running openvz on it for a cpu intensive php/mysql script?

    Cheers

I did and here's my feedback:

    • Cancelation policy is really no good
    • Network may be faster than OVH and guaranteed, but network quality is not as good as OVHs
    • I really really still dislike the fact, that you had different offers for france residents a long time. That was like "hey, you other guys can have the crap for more money, french guys get SSDs and better prices yay". That's somewhat arrogant and I don't like it.

I don't like OVH either, but my old 4€ N2800 is just too cheap to complain. It's running at 100Mbit average in/out and therefore pushing >30tb/month.

  • Has anyone under 18 got past verification?

Most importantly OVH doesn't covertly post into Online.net threads, calling their competitor "a joke". Maybe they consider such practice to be unworthy to engage in at their scale, maybe see it as too childish and petty, or maybe they even have some actual moral standards.

To be fair OVH does this too! probably far worst than online.net.

  • rds100rds100 Member

I believe such practice is illegal in the EU.

Pretty much. In the same way that your home ISP probably wouldn't cope if everyone decided to max out their connection at the same time.

    Mine does.

Kinda like if you have a $10000 bank account, the bank doesn't actually have $10000 in cash to match. They just need enough to cover withdrawals.
