As for mail servers: run your own! If you can't my experience with runbox (NO or SE I seem to remember) was really positive; in fact I just recently paid another 3 years in advance (they are really cheap).

With respect, I just assumed someone like you probably self-hosted mail.
If most of your mail use is just inbound receiving, such as notifications and OTP codes then it gets pretty simple and deliverability / IP reputation means less. Can just use a ccTLD or whatever you choose, something out of the hands of the US. Then use a VPS you trust, use Mailcow for simplicity or something.
I had never heard of that mail provider before.
I used to, but it's too much work for no gain. There's nothing particularly confidential in there and I'd rather not have to discover an issue because some service terminates me for non-payment after they failed to deliver emails.
It fills a niche similar to Riseup, but is Italian rather than American. It's been around for over 20 years, I think.
