I have two APC ones.. Costly one (around 15k) both batteries died after 1 year.
The BX600 model you mentioned, I got it for 3k 2 years back. Its running, but not getting any backup. Even got battery replace warning few days back.
I don't trust APC anymore
Oh, thanks for that. That's way outta my budget. Might have to delay the purchase.
Basically govt job feeling does that. It runs in DNA i think.
BTW, here's rm -rf / on Ubuntu 24.04:-
Thought so, maybe my region got lucky there.
they improve but they don't have any sense of urgency afaik, if something breaks down it will take hours just get an update. There are times i had to guide my ISP about issues and have them fixed, once i was assigned an entire subnet of his and he was calling me like crazy saying that i am consuming too much bandwidth(around 3-5tb a day) it took me 5 minutes to figure out the issue and the solution
Yah, APC's quality has gone down as well. Many complaints. My friend got an expensive one 20K+ recently, and it completely stopped working in a week. APC's supprot did replace it, but, that was a hassle as well.
It's slowly changing though since Govt. has given an ultimatum to most of them. Either better yourself or get privatised.
try a standard inverter from mikrotek specially pure shinewave at 1400va fix it with a tabular batter of 90 ah something. set it on UPS mode and enjoy a perfect UPS for your computers
Fedora 41 throws the same warning:-
[root@99b4dc71f43d /]# rm -rf /
rm: it is dangerous to operate recursively on '/'
rm: use --no-preserve-root to override this failsafe
As per my reading, the subsidy ones need to connect to the local power grid. They are online models, like they work only when the power is there. And will not work when there is no power. (again have to rely on inverter maybe).
Offline works when there is sun and independed of local power. Without sun/nights works on battery. (like inverter). But we don't get subsidy on these.
This is my basic undertanding. I may be wrong though.
why not just upgrade the inverter? it's always my first suggestion
I am not using tv on it. But i gave this wifi to entire family. And kept the private one to myself and gadgets like Echo devices smart bulbs etc..
Yah, I used to think that as well, but, a friend clarified it for me when he got subsidy on off-grid solar plant for his home. But, he did say he had to go through a private player who got the discount for him.
on grid is perfectly fine for anyone... there's a lot more to it then just charging your inverter and some.... you get really low electricity bills... just setup a multi battery inverter and roll with it blindly
Yup. Hyd is good. Most of my relatives there. I was there for some years when young. But moved to village later.
Yup our govt is planning to build a capital. But last govt ruined it for their political gains. Now the govt chagned, and the works are in traction.
You tried it finally.. 🤣🤣
So its true, they have some protection mechanism.
it will take years to do that and once the govt changes it will be setback a little more, an endless battle where only common people suffer...
I'd have thought of that as well. But, the inverter's pretty strong. Unsure of it's specs but, it can easily handle running my PC with TV and PS4 and 3 BLDC fans continuously for 12+ hours without an issue. It's just when some heavy equipment (mixer grinders, etc.) is plugged into the wall an a blackout happens that my PC goes down.
Ah, that's smart.
But, aren't these inverters and batteries themselves pretty expensive? Forgot to factor that in.
They did what? May be your home lab consuming 5TB , we don't believe you, I am with ISP. 🤣🤣
Ahh, I see, good luck to Andhra Pradesh then.
Good that it was faulty earlier, so that he got a replacement.
I think I lost considerable amount on it. Didn't try to replace batteries. I'll try after few months may be.
Yah, saw this in a video. That's why the curiosity. Any other distros you'd want me to try. I am pretty sure Arch, Ubuntu, and the likes have protection builtin. Gimme something offbeat which you think might not have any failsafe.
BTW, if you face any issues with any of these companies, make a complaint here - https://consumerhelpline.gov.in/public/
It's pretty effective. Had a very positive experience recently.
Privatization definitely improves them a lot. But one thing I fear is, they don't operate in areas without profits. BSNL provided connectivity to areas in entire India, when there was like only one connection as well. I respect that.
the runtime is from battery, check the model it should have the va rating in it... it should be atleast 1400va if you are planning on running your PC, tv, ps and mixer grinder
We already have inverter at home. I am thinking of getting a second one to my room, to sustain from the powercuts in summer.
get 150 or 130ah only, will cost you around 12k each and lasts for around 4-5 years without failing.
