You have embarked on an interesting niche
Mike's working on that.
We know
We're not hard up for cash. We're just ironing out any bugs and adding missing features to the cranemail panel.
Fear not, we're hard at work. I'm actively working on self-serve spamexperts transfers. After that, it'll be a 'Users' section for you to do the usual CRUD actions.
Francisco
Thanks, i am gonna idle for a while as i have no immediate need to move my existing infra over. My reason for LT deal was because you are doing inhouse cranemail panel - i thought users can give suggestions so that wide variety of innovative features can be implemented as a hosted service. Like simplelogin as many potentially use / wanna use something like it.
For example, I would love to have following functionality implemented.
Domain - somemail.ext
Users / mailbox created manually - [email protected]. This is also set as the catchall.
A separate webpage in the console which lists all "aliases" under somemail.ext to which emails were being sent (this is captured automatically). The user ([email protected]) can send email as any alias listed in this webpage. Also there's a manage function which can turn on / off the alias (to block forwarding) or limit who can send to that alias (like a regex)
Usecase 1 - dynamic alias
Example i am at tom's pet store, i ask tom to send me invoice at [email protected]; this is caught by the catchall and forwarded to [email protected].
At the same time, [email protected] is listed under the aforementioned webpage automatically. [email protected] can send email as [email protected].
Usecase 2 - control rate of abuse
If tom start spamming with ton of marketing, admin can disable / pause [email protected] so that emails are no longer forwarded to [email protected].
Usecase 3 - prevent phishing / similar. Or restricted mailbox within orgs.
I gave [email protected] to my chase banker. In the aforesaid webpage, I can enforce only *@chase.com can sent emails to [email protected] so that some random dude who spoofs/masks can't send ransom emails.
Just throwing it out & hoping some / most of these can be implemented by @NameCrane
@manuv fancy ideas!
For now lets get a few of the base features done first and then we can brainstorm.
I've got another couple hours on the spamexperts stuff, and then it'll be the users page w/ impersonation support.
I did some workflow changes yesterday as well. For instance, when you create an account it'll popup the admin details, instead of requiring the extra 'view admin details' click. That view page has now been chopped back to just being a change password prompt.
We tweaked the 'manage product' link on the product view page to try to make it obvious it's a link. Many users kept thinking it was a header and that the page was failing to render the rest.

this idea has already been ruled out by @francisco. if you now buy 250g lifetime cranemail, then this is a usa package which cannot be transferred to europe.
@Francisco (boss of crane?) can you please give a rough estimate of when to expect europe-250g-lifetime and by how much % it will be more expensive than the usa-cranemail offer and what in particular will be the reason why europe-cranemail will be more expensive?
will cranemail-europe comply with eu data protection regulations?
will cranemail-europe comply with eu data protection regulations?
Mike's thinking on pricing.
Yes, we'll need to make sure it's GDPR compliant. I need to go get enrolled in whatever programs we need for that. We need GDPR for domains anyway.
Francisco
i wish mike good thoughts and enlightening input regarding pricing for eu customers🙏🏻
The price is slowly increasing with every DM and ticket I get asking about Europe
Kidding. But yeah, it won't be a crazy amount more.
Increase has to account for the higher operating costs in EU (see: power prices), and import fees we gotta pay on hardware shipped, and other fun stuff like that. Plus you guys are making Fran read to make sure we're in compliance with GDPR, so there's a premium on that too
Will the premium be so low that those who preferred/ wanted EU but already purchased regret their decision
You are threading on a thin line.
Alright, you convinced me. I'll take the increase I've calculated and double it.
Why not relying on Stalw.art for mail services?
I purchased a LIFETIME 250GB plan and haven't experienced any issues so far. NameCrane even threw in a free eM Client license! The provider is incredibly generous!
Please STOP telling others what they should and should NOT be using. This is a provider's thread.
now its over! after 16years and 2 month i finally closed my fastmail account today. the fastmail offers are simply too expensive for me and my small family.
can cranemail europe be a worthy replacement?
I'm just asking something I am interested in, no need to be yelling at me.
That question isn't pertinent in another provider's offer thread
You can ask that question in the pit or in a general thread about mail providers
Well, I am interested in the software and tools they chose and the reason behind it.
These are simple questions. I am not even mentioning other providers here which seems to be tolerated in this forum.
If you familiarize with the forum before using it, you would see what is and what is not tolerated. You are pushing it.
But you did mention another provider just above
The answer is the webmail, file storage, etc is what sold us. There's probably better standalone mail server options, but not as tightly integrated and would've required hacking together other pieces to make it work.
The cloud storage piece was something we really wanted to include - even if it's not perfect at the moment
I will just say, no one is forcing you to use their services. They chose tools / software that they feel comfortable and which make business/economic/technical sense to them. You can take it or leave it and choose a competition if it makes more sense to you.
If I am selling apples, i don't think I need to explain why I chose to sell apple and that too only green apple. You either buy it from me or leave me alone
If you have any issue with the green apple I sell, then let me know. Or if you have suggestions on how to make my apple better, then I am all ears. But asking why I chose to sell X variety of apple?- meh, it's my choice mate.
As a customer, I am interested in the reliability, security, and delivery of my mail. The backend plays a major role in that decision. We are talking about mail here and not hosting or other types of services.
Okay, I see
There's two ways of construing this question:
As a result, it wasn't clear how exactly to construe your question
If you had elaborated more on what you meant/intended, it would have been clearer
Again, its not forced upon you. You chose to be a customer knowing they are using X as the backend. I don't think they hide it from anyone.
I would had aligned with you, if NameCrane moved to a new backend after you being a customer - then yes, it makes sense to question the choices.
I currently have a NameCrane shared hosting account, and my email needs are straightforward without requiring file storage. Is there any benefit to signing up for CraneMail, considering that my shared hosting already includes SpamExperts? I'm curious if there's a reason to switch to CraneMail.
Sorry for keep asking about EU location but will there be any kind of information for all customers once it will be released? I would even subscribe to newsletters for this.
Just want to make sure I don't miss the introduction and the introduction offers for it.
If you just new need standard email, then what you get on your shared is more than great.
If you want a 'suite experience', then Cranemail is pretty good.
Come hang out in the discord, we mostly don't bite.
Francisco
I personally switched from DA webmail because
Keep in mind that #4 is 90% of the reason though, the other 3 are just rationalizing my decision lmao.
I'm there already for some time. I just have one too many discord servers to regularly read all of them. I'll just allow notification for the nc-news channel.
Thanks man
