Boss, there was an earthquake in Japan. Is your server all right? Did fall into the sea?

  • Damn, don't affect the online time :s

We received an advisory from the datacenter, and will receive more information on whether it would affect services there. Nothing is currently in Tokyo, so it does not affect us in terms of any equipment damage.

I'm going to re-weigh everything and ensure it does not exceed the advised amount for the datacenter's liability insurance. We already put everything in smaller chassis with sturdier rails. I'm going to potentially eliminate any builds with copper heatsinks or two backup hard drives as well.

Refund request is allowed, that's fine, I'll process it, and it's faster, and you won't be penalized for it (outside of just not being able to receive another refund from our system in the future since it's one refund per customer "officially.") Just make the request, refund in title, and it'll be processed no questions asked. And then you can order whatever else you want.

I had put in a cancellation request ticket on the 12th for a Tokyo preorder, but the subject mentioned cancellation not refund. Should I go ahead and close that ticket myself and submit a new one with refund in the subject, or wait it out? I've already ordered the replacement service with 2 year payments, and this is just going back to store credit, so I'm not in a big hurry, just wanted to make it as easy as possible on whoever is processing tickets.

If it was me, and the ticket had not been processed yet, I would close the old ticket, and open a new one with the VirMach requested title.

I lied, if it was me I would just keep them both. :)

  • @FrankZ How am I supposed to idle if the servers aren't even installed yet? This is costing me millions in hypothetical dollars. Please answer my multiple high priority tickets immediately!

This is known as virtual idling. As long as you include the pending VPS in your current list of idling servers, it still counts. Best of all you get X% extra idling time when the next due date gets pushed back.

    Virtual Idle Machine Solutions LLC

    1. Order.
    2. Pay.
    3. Machine is "pending" forever.
    4. Refund allowed after 5 years.
    5. Provider earns interest.

Basically it's a mutual fund, with none of the earnings and all of the virtual idling.

Which Equinix TY DC? There're more than 10 in Tokyo.

DC in Yamate-areas (hill) are most resilient to disasters. e.g. TY4, TY10
Most Yamate areas are at the heart of Tokyo = higher infrastructure restoration priority (from gov).
On the contrary, DC in landfill areas are likely be affected more. e.g. TY1, TY11

I topped up my VirMach credits twice by accident.

Paid for the intended service and at the same time I submitted a ticket to Billing asking if they could refund the additional credit.

If it's one invoice and two payments on that invoice, and no more than two, and you didn't spend the additional credit, we can usually get it refunded for you. Just make sure you have the invoice ID, and two transaction IDs in the ticket.

Yeah I created a ticket for Billing and provided them with the Invoice ID along with both transaction IDs.

The most common reason for this error is if you begin the payment process, do not complete it, and then return later to complete it. I'm sure there are other reasons for this but based on our experience, it happens in that case. You need to regenerate the invoice.

There should be a button to do this on your end.
