Uahahahahahaha this is amazing "Renault Megarsch". For ppl who don't understand german. Basically he is complaining about OVH telling their customers nothing at all (which is true) and just reduce service while higher the price.
HomerJ is a very popular game streaming website in germany and he says they have 30Gbit with OVH. But without telling them they just stopped delivering 30GBit and just gave them 5Gbit (for the same price of course). Now they seem to move to Leaseweb, which I think is a good thing to do. Hetzner is crap for VoD stuff with traffic merely reaching 1PB/month.
OVH really is one of worst provider I have ever seen. I'm not sure that everything they do is legal, but they don't care anyway. If they want to tell you something they put it in their forums, where you can't register. Or you have to translate every piece of information from their twitter to a proper language. This is just so unbelieveable arrogant I can't put it in words. I would really never ever host anything mission critical with them as they are unpredictable. Things said today may be invalid tomorrow...
@chrisp you can register to the forum only from the same country, ie. UK from UK etc
But I am not sure if they are accepting new members == i registered Thursday/Friday and its still not confirmed
There is a simple saying: 'If it looks too good to be true, it is probably too good to be true'.
What OVH are doing is possible, but the period for ROI is rather long.
If they run out of stock and new server is built for you, how long are you going to hang on to it for OVH to recover the cost? A more logical approach for them if you are serious pay upfront for the whole server for them to build it for you and colocate it.
Another perspective on this - if you had an unlimited 100Mb or 1Gb broadband line to your home, how many servers would you stick on there for your personal use 24x7 and what would it be for?
@rchurch unlimited 100 Mb to home... 1 server can use that 100 Mbps
So not worth of installing many servers behind 100 Mbps.
If it was used hardware, throw away grade, probably it was possible. With new stuff, it will take about 30 months to pay the hardware alone, everything else we suppose is free.
Traffic, cooling, power, space, racks, WAGES, taxes, payment processors fees, replacement parts, etc.
In other news, they will stop this offer after next week, just my guesstimation:)
Oles:
deliveries are going to be pretty fast now. it was thought that one-10J we will set the code (the site), it took us 14-16J.
Orders by PayPal will be canceled.
I guess this is just pending orders
It's terrible service for them to cancel these orders rather than offering customers an alternative way to pay the pending order
Yes, that's exactly what describes OVH best. But hey it's dead cheap and so they know we will go through the hassle anyway and just order again.
@chrisp @sc754 Handling thousands of orders for 3€ service? I dont think that's going to happen. Its cheaper to cancel all orders than manually process each.
And I dont think their billing system allows reordering/repaying as you have gotten the confirmation from their system already (payment received.. but still pending manual verification)
"Follow OVH's tweetlife! Europe's #1 hosting provider will soon be world's #1! Follow us to know when it happens! Tweets for geeks!"
Yeah, right, world's #1 ?
OK, they have not taken any money out of my paypal account yet? it's just authorised, there is no order showing in my manager either, so I am thinking if it is worth placing a fresh order using a debit card?
@villagaeidiot the money is taken from the account to OVH's pending balance which OVH has not authorized yet. So the money is not in your account anymore. If they dont handle this mess in 1 week, I think its a good time to make a paypal dispute.
The validity of the authorization is 1 month anyway. If OVH don't capture the money and just leave the authorization in the pending state, paypal will automatically cancel it after 1 month and return your money.
On the UK Forums people are suggesting and are reordering KS2Gs using credit cards.
I suggest to anyone who doesn't NEED this RIGHT NOW - just wait. Give them some time to clear the backlog and try to reorder later, when they can start to fill orders faster.
@rds100 they claim they can be faster starting monday. they have stock for 30,000 KS servers as that was the expected amount of orders. now I guess they have between 10,000-15,000 orders
Of which 8500 will be reordered as they were put on to manual hold
Oles tweet:
@ NotCassim if resellers are removed, it's up to the end of December. and 100K in 2014 ..
So this might mean that KS offer might be valid until December.
Oles tweet regarding cancelling Paypal orders:
it is being canceled. API paypal is particularly slow.
ovh.com seems to have almost all the countries in the list.
However, I can't register on the corresponding forum, registration is blocked. Kind of hypocrisy, since they recommend using forums to receive support.
I've pretty much given up on getting these now. Some long as they don't stop accepting paypal for my existing mKS, I'm good.
@Nekki You can reorder using debit/credit card. Deliveries start next Monday. 1000/day. They will deliver 5000 next week and another 5000 week after that. So you only need to wait 1-2 weeks.
I don't wish to pay by debit or credit card. It's Paypal or nothing for me, because that's where all my VPS money is.
Now resellers will order via virtual credit cards (possibly made via paypal too) and OVH will pull their next stunt from their sleeves. Get some rest and stay away from OVH for a while, until they figure out the lottery system.
@nekki then you dont get ks2g
What about the Chiapas, doing anything for them?
Nope, Oles already said on twitter some time ago that they do know how to detect virtual cards. And those do indeed have their own BIN-ranges or something.
As I said, so long as they don't stop paypal for my existing server, I'm fine with that.
Mmm I hope I get the atom soon, going to pair it up with a ramnode 128mb 50gb vps to cover backing up the more important files xD. Anyone else worked out what they are going to do with their atom? I'm thinking web, dns, email, vpn, streaming and maybe a voice server or two
