I managed to get my server stuck in intervention mode where I can't do anything from the manager until OVH support carries out an operation on it (crashed installing windows)
This will be an unintentional test to see how fast a server can be fixed or worked in in SYD
On a side note, http://smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=APAC
Ping Seems to be quite high.
hey Australian IPs https://www.ip2location.com/demo Showing Canada Location?
the IP2Location database hasn't updated yet, this /17 was originally announced in BHS but then they reallocated it to Australia, and it's been slowly updating to show Sydney as it's location and now it appears that all location databases except IP2Location are updated.
Furthermore Google's IP geolocation service still shows this IP block as unclassified thus returning the US/American Google/YouTube, etc however that'll probably update to Google Australia soon.
I am now forced to use a VPN on my server within a VM to upload files to G-Drive.
Yeah there's latency there
Probably will but folks who host in Australia will predominantly be businesses and there's more than price as a criteria for choosing a web host for businesses. Perceived support, reputation and reliability would be more important than price. I know of companies who rather pay $10,000/month for hosting with their existing long time web host who they know and trust versus my recommendations of cheaper alternatives around $2,500/month mark. Perceived trust is a real factor for some folks. So OVH Australia will have to build that trust and reputation up somewhat first before you see Aussie companies jump ship over to OVH.
Great thing about cheaper OVH prices would be that it makes it easier for folks to evaluate and test their server offerings, support and reliability out. Competition is always good though - just look at AMD Ryzen 7 release and Intel already slashing their prices
They have started an intervention, but can't continue with it as they don't have a iPerf server setup in the SYD DC.
Latency still seems to be under 1ms until it hits "google6.lnk.telstra.net", so I wonder if it would actually be an issue with Telstra? Not sure but google traffic shouldn't really be routed through Telstra anyways as it's meant to go directly to the US and running it through Telstra and then the US would be slower anyways plus Telstra is setup for OVH AU only for domestic Australia traffic unless someone at OVH thought this would be a faster route to google drive
Downloads are shit fast, I'm taking 30GB files in 10-60 seconds.
Just uploads are horrible.
Few bugs to iron out, but we're live and ready to go in Syd. Offer post coming soon.
Is there ovh singapore looking glass?
Singapore still seems to be unavailable yet but this will give you somewhat of a looking glass until then

Poland to support the number of IP purchase, I bought a server 62 IP. But on the VAC can not be purchased
My Sydney server was extended until April, thanks OVH
Ye, u can buy shit loads of ips on poland server. Technically up to 256.. I wonder if the same comes for australian or singapore dedis.
I am not sure, right now it states that I am limited to 16 max so maybe not, it would be cool if I could get a Singapore dedi get a bunch of IPs for it and use them on an AU server
16 subnets
so 16*16 right?
Anything over 16 failover IPs total is charged $3/m is what is done, from what I was told from multiple reps.
Fair enough, lets give it a try.
Apparently if you want free stuff on ovh you need to complain to octave... According to this tweet
he's lucky he's getting that server for 12 months, I mean I'm lucky I'm getting mine for 2 months when mine was delivered in under a week
If they actually open source their manager which for some reason I don't see happening I'll be so happy, it says "UI" so it may just be the UI, none of the actual backend stuff that allows you to manage servers or VPSs
The api has all the required stuff to make your own frontend.
Yep, it's been confirmed they're giving us an extra month of service for no additional cost
Wait, did you even have to wait :P
Lay off man, you didnt wait either
Looks like I also got a free month, and didn't have to wait. I ordered it when someone confirmed they got theirs. I have been lurking this thread since the very beginning though, didn't think it'd take them this long.
I renewed three days before they gave me the free month.
