  • Core2Duo box got setup this morning, but no root password - ticketed and got a response within a minute.

Box looks alright, it's identified as a Core 2 Duo - E7500 @ 2.93Ghz - but with cpu governor tuned to performance the best it can do is 2.67Ghz.

Drive is ancient (over 6 years of power on hours, start/stop count is close to 200), couple reallocated sectors.

  • Core 2 Quad just got delivered. Q8200 @ 2.33GHz. Drive is a lot newer, 500GB Hitachi thats only ~3 years old, no errors.

Dunno what to do. Fancy that Core2Quad, but I've got £40 of Delimiter credit now :-/

Flutter your eyelashes at delimiter for a refund and get the C2Q?

I may as well ask the question.

  • My Core 2 Duo is an E7400 @ 2.80GHz, I haven't had issues maxing it out so far

All gone by the looks of it.

  • 56MB/s dd, a few re-allocated sectors, 6.5 yr old drive. Should I even bother ticketing or just suck it up for $10/mo?

The Core 2 Quad drive is flawless

IMO re-allocated sectors is not pre-fail, is already failed.
However, as long as you have no bad sectors, they might reject your claim. Does not hurt to try, just for curiosity how they deal with it. This will tell you lots about the company in general.

  • Looks like them I7's are gone as well

Might as well open a ticket and try

  • Login credentials don't appear to work - but these 2 minute response times are real. What's a live webcam?

  • @Maounique @sin

All of our hardware is used. In order to make a replacement the HDD has to fail our HDD test If you would like we can run the HDD test at you convenience. The server will be offline for 8-12 hours while this runs

I'm guessing it would still pass a HDD test with only a few re-allocated sectors.

  • They're funny. I get the details for my Quad, they tell me to login to their portal in the e-mail, but the e-mail contains no credentials to do any of that. So I go to their site and ask for a password reset which hasn't been sent out yet (three hours).

@mikeyur ask them what the test is? 8-10hrs over 250gb seems long.

  • MaouniqueMaounique Host Rep, Veteran

Yeah, if there are no bad sectors.
I am running a test to mark bad sectors on a 2 TB drive for days, so the 8-12 hours seem real.

You got the login details when you ordered, but it goes straight to spam. Subject: "Your Account Information" - email: [email protected]

Yeah, if there are no bad sectors.

I passed on it for now. Will just keep it well backed up. It's fairly usable for what I'm doing.

  • You're right, it did go into spam. God damnit. Even the password reset e-mail was there, lol.

Thanks for the heads up :)

This is the fault of some people...
We use Mandrill for our transactional emails, but tried SES for a rarely sent newsletter to test some things and most of it ended up in spam...

  • They reply quickly to tickets (1~ minute)...my root password wasn't there and the login for my box was "CUSTOMER" which I doubt would be correct ;P

  • @k0nsl The additional user they create during setup is 'customer' - but that password is the same for root/customer

Oh, alright @mikeyur. Well, password was wrong at least. Oh well...more wait ;)

[I guess I shouldn't complain too much considering the price...]

  • got mine today went for a QuadCore and got a nice Q6600 @ 2.40
the hdd is just over 2 years on power on hours I had the same problem as others missing login but they was fast to give the the right information.

there is a way to redo OS reinstalls in the panel and it took around 20min for it reinstall as i massed up the 1 st time it seemed automated? maybe its changed.

did anyone ask about ip;s on this server and they only seems to sell them in a block there site says /29 for $8

  • For $15, well, that's totally worth it!

Out of stock on all 3 lowest price servers =/

I'm pretty suprised to see how well their peering is for being in the Midwest.

It's 100% HE + Cogent. I've been quite happy with Cogent routes, HE is mostly 'meh' but it depends on the destination.
