Should I be worried , both drives are more than 3 years old and most of the value going over thresholds .. .?

  • rds100rds100 Member

@Saahib your drives are fine, don't worry. Just make sure smartmontools are setup correctly to send you an email if a problem is detected.

This. Also: Dacentec is really good about drives. I got delivered a machine with an 'iffy' drive previously and they swapped both out with a new set within.. an hour, tops.

Thanks, can you point out any short tutorial for configuring smartmontools , I did some search and none of them is comprehensive.

  • @dacentec if i remember right you once mentioned some tutorials made by dacentec users, can you post a link here ?

    Thx

    @Saahib
Put this into /etc/smartd.conf Then start the service obviously. It will check smart data every 30 min and send you an email every day if there is a problem. You will also need a working MTA on the server.

    /dev/sda -a -m [email protected] -M daily
    /dev/sdb -a -m [email protected] -M daily

WD Enterprise drives are warranted for 5 years by the manufacturer. A 3 or 4 year old disk is probably still under warranty.

  • Now I think I should've got the 6bay chassis.(or even 4bay) :)

Is software raid 10 on an opteron platform worthy of the cpu?

  • bohdansbohdans Member

Damn, keep missing the $20 servers, anyone know of something to monitor the site for updates then email me?

  • Anyone got Proxmox working on their Opteron servers? I've been struggling with it for nearly a day now but I simply can not get the networking to work (server doesn't respond to ping, nor ssh, nor can login to the web ui).

Used both their provisioning system and KVM to install Proxmox via ISO.

  • andreicandreic Member

For me it worked both ways

Works fine here. Build manually from debian though.
