yes true. I meant grumbling. probably bitching is an even better fit.

So you're bitching about me bitching about people making unnecessary tickets clogging up the support system? Great! Time well spent.

  • I just got Tokyo VPS.
I'm satisfied with the last year's BF deal except for IPv6 so I ordered additional one.

  • Just received my JP VPS

  • just got my Tokyo AMD compute (4GB)!

No, I was simply poking you, as you clearly didn't think about anything else than someone asking for doubling storage on a sales storage VPS. I also expected you to not simply admit to that, but try to wiggle your way out by quickly looking for points why every ticket seems a bad ticket by your view.

it clearly didn't even cross your mind, that it could be about any other kind of already existing service. in the lights of heavy discounts and even some special for existing customers why would a ticket offering early renewal or even extended prepayment in exchange for more disk be unreasonable?

seems like I hit a nerve and as said in the end it wasn't about your bitching as such but rather you being too small to admit that, even for a moment, you rather assumed something and jumped to a conclusion.

  • @hosthatch man any chance of getting the 2tb storage now with 3 year payment, anywhere in the world?

  • @Daniel15 said:

@satoshiscave said: I opted for an Intel E5 myself, it got some more CPU and also double the RAM, always thought Xeon was the cream.

The Xeons HostHatch use on their older servers are close to 10 years old now (e.g. the E5-2680 v2 and E5-2690 v2). They're Ivy Bridge processors, from the same generation as Intel's 3rd gen Core i3/i5/i7 (e.g. the i5-3470).

The AMDs are far newer, faster (even with a lower clock speed), more power efficient, support newer features, etc. A lot has changed in ~10 years.

Ok thanks for that information, should have picked the other package with AMD! lets hope I can last for a year on this plan, Intel E5 is still a very strong CPU.

Running Apache server, does anyone know about the technical difference between these two in a hosting scenario? just cool if anyone could develop further.

thanks a lot guys for answers

I posted a bench of the Hong Kong storage VM if you cared about that location

thanks bro I noted that one! looks great

still waiting for the same location Hong Kong storage myself. Emil is probably flying in to expand this location shortly. :) king Emil!

Would would one post this under a BF offer thread if not related to one of those heavy discounted plans? Whatever you're trying to say doesn't really make sense to me and actually looks like you're trying to get around admitting something.

For just Apache likely no difference. For php little difference depends on your apps and traffic. Using these E5 plans and caching a lot could actually be faster for webhosting than a smaller AMD plan.

Poked? You flat out said it was prejudice, for some reason. You are obsessed with assumptions (thoughts aren't assumptions). No, I already explained the rational, I think your English might be the issue. Prejudice? That made no sense in addition to the mistake you already admitted to. Come on. You're the one closing your eyes and ears. The fact he didn't share the ticket request says it all.

  • It's been over 2 weeks and still pending state, SG AMD.

  • hopefully all of the people here complaining will get rid of their servers asa they get access to it :)

I like this theory and wish it was true, but no. There was a guy on LES who I debated this with....which basically ended up in him saying "you have no idea, I do this work more than you, come at me, bro"....kind of like the "I know the law because a friend of my cousin is a lawyer" argument.

If you haven't noticed already, I've stayed away from any attempts at inciting drama in this thread, and I've let it go when people have made inciting comments. I've learned my lessons from the past. But since you are an old customer, I will answer this and try to stay as polite as I can.

The logistics of buying new hardware and putting it into production is not that easy. Try buying a new server from Dell EMC (that we use), and see the ETA. Then add all the remaining components (RAM, HDDs, NVMes, etc), burn test them, and ship them. We have plenty of excess Dell hardware just because of this reason, and about 300 unused HDDs.

Then add the customs delays (which almost always happen in APAC locations). Then there is almost always a holiday (in this season) in every country, so there are a few delays in getting them racked and online. And then burn test again. Almost always find a fault because they've been shipped over continents, replace the faulty parts, and then burn test them again.

But if you honestly think we get pre-orders, and then use that money to order hardware, and then do all of the above within a week or two - then you have to also give some extra props to us, because you are making me feel like I should instead be working at NASA with the IQ you think I have.

But the real reason for delays (you're welcome to continue believing the above), but I generally make it a rule to not lie and be very straight forward:

    • In most locations, it took 1-3 days.

    • Hong Kong and Tokyo were delayed because we were moving away from M247, and moving the hardware (even though it was inside the same datacenter) was somehow harder and more complicated than shipping from a different continent.

    • In New York, we're setting up a new 40G network, and moving away from M247, hence the delay. But hopefully only a few more days and we're good to go. The hardware is all racked since 3 weeks ago.

    • In Singapore, this is the only location where we really had major delays. We're also moving away from M247, but the new hardware got delayed in transit. I will write an email to everyone who ordered in SGP with a new ETA, but note that I already mentioned Singapore might get delayed in the OP.

While I'm waiting reply from support.
Has anyone experienced this and know solution?
My VPS completely lost network connectivity after I enabled private network and rebooted it from control panel.
I can access it via VNC but it can't even ping to the gateway.

    Edit:
NVM, it seems netplan is not working for some reason and route is not configured.
Probably because I installed it from ISO.

  • Dear Customer,

Thank you for your order of one of our Black Friday 2022 promotions in New York.

For now, just the locations I mentioned in my post. Eventually we'll move all of them.

will this migration be for E5 deals also in New York?

Yes, it is the same DC, just different racks. We will hopefully be able to live migrate everyone as we have done in the past.

Honestly, I think you have most if not all the hardware and use the BF weekend to get orders and then start shipping Monday to match those orders. I'm not arguing with you in general, that's just smart operations for proper allocations.

But you're buying barebones systems. I don't know about Dell in 2022, but years ago, an official HP System Integrator/supplier could have 100+ shipped the next day to us (less than HP sticker price). I would think Dell has similar. There's also times when a preconfigured system is stocked in quantity and sold on promotion and ships the following day.

Also, NASA isn't known to be fast, this is just logistics that doesn't require high IQ, just experience (which you have). What the difference to that timeline, is the NUMBER of servers and the limited amount of humans to process them. A few servers is an easy afternoon for one guy with a well automated setup. A hundred isn't.

To me, you didn't need to write that whole response, just say, "it's a lot more servers than you'd think" and leave it at that.
