  • Just an FYI for those interested.
When loading netboot.xyz cd I could not access the VPS via HTML5 VNC in the panel and it just keeps disconnecting. By using Tight VNC I could access the VPS and install ALMA 8 normally.

@rhinoduck said: I admire the strength of your will. I think it will take me at least two more years of idling insane deals before I will even be able to comprehend such level of Zen

I don't really idle much. The vast majority are used for some real purpose. On rare occasions I will get a bad one and just shut it down and move on. I don't expect support. For the prices I pay, if VirMach keeps the node up, I'm good, and they do a very good job on uptime.

I was just half-jokingly trying to say that it would be hard for me to let go of such a deal, and that I appreciate the amount of conscientiousness involved in the decision.

As for support, it's the same for me. As long as the basics work (or the problems can be worked around), and the host actively communicates outages within a reasonable timeframe, I am happy. It doesn't mean I won't eventually migrate away if there are issues; but there very rarely is a need to open a ticket.

The auto-generated names are something else, lol.

The one I bought yesterday starts with the word Neglected... :'(

Which probably will be how it lives out its life.

@VirMach should prefix the server names with "Idler-*".

This issue with web based VNC is listed in frequently asked question on virmach web site

In control panel, load windows 2012 iso and set the boot to CD. restart the VPS and complete the installation using desktop based VNC software access.

Hello everybody, I am back from a nice long rest. I am glad to see VirBot still plugging along as I am, as always, looking for one more good "deal" in Buffalo.

Congratulations @JabJab on winning the EVGA RTX 3060.
A big thank you to @bakageta for taking the Gallon of Wet Platinum Lube off the table.

Anything else notable that I missed?

@dararish said: I think there was more variety in general. I got one with a 105GB drive.

Did you buy it as OpenVZ?
I had one like that in Chicago but it was openVZ with 6 cores, 4.something GB RAM, 105GB disk for $28/yr. I gave it back when they converted to KVM-Lite because I felt guilty keeping it.

Those OpenVZ conversions made some already good deals just great, I know what you mean about feeling guilty, my 2018 Pro+ openvz plan is still running my webserver at $11.90 for 3 vcore, 2gb ram, 50gb, 2tb bw, and for a dollar a month it's a pretty hard deal to beat.

Ha, ha. I get the 20 minute warning when my legs start hurting. Then I know it is time to go to bed. The wife started falling asleep in her chair in her 50's. It sucks to do that because your neck gets all f'd up. Getting old is interesting, but it sure beats the alternative. :)
