We have been using Hostsolutions as another offsite backup for half a year. A breakdown, even for a few days or even weeks, is not too bad for us at first, which is why I decided to use Hostsolutions in view of the prices.

In the meantime, however, we have looked for another provider and cancelled the server with Hostsolutions. I find it absolutely inappropriate to completely ignore customers for days in the event of a breakdown, even for the cheapest provider.

Please not. I hope this is the only unreliable 3rd-Party you're using regardless the price. I honestly did not expect you to take services from such a host, even before this story.

I don't see why you shouldn't look for the cheapest possible provider for backups of backups, which only play a role in the event of an absolute disaster.

All the files there are also stored at Hetzner, as well as at my home on a NAS.
Nevertheless, I decided to create an additional copy. Especially since restoring the data from my home would take forever and Hetzner, as our second location, is not offsite for all data.

I have been watching Hostsolutions for a long time and last year I had the feeling that the situation would improve as promised. Since I had little to lose (alternatives are much more expensive), we decided to give Hostsolutions a chance.

^ I see nothing wrong with that. I have (static encrypted) tertiary and longer term backups on a $2 Online.net and KS.
If they go "belly up" then it'll be annoying but not critical by any means.

    Seriously

Opinions are like the said private porn collection - its good to have it, sucks without it? 😆

Similar with some of my off-site copies. The chance of that copy being unavailable at exactly the same time as I need it (because the main copy is gone and the primary/secondary backups are unavailable too) is not 100%, but it is far closer to 100% than the 0% it would be if I didn't have that copy at all.

Of course there is a small admin/monitoring (and bandwidth for large data) burden to maintain and test the extra copy. Whether that is worth it to someone is a personal risk/hassle/reward calculation, and will also vary depending on the importance of those bits of data.

Wait for @TimboJones approves it. Than it is deadpool.

  • Perhaps cociu are busying on the lawsuit.
Wait 2 more days and see what will happen.

Far out, I thought just my server was having issues... Now I know HS is about to deadpool zzz.

In fact I had pre-paid credit too, now seems completely gone. So sad. Lucky I just backed up all my data a month ago so not much data loss.

Me too, mainly I use the service to store removed website, when the client finish the hosting period I take backup and remove it for another year, I'm doing this from 5 years,, last month I bought a hard disk and backed up everything to the harddisk.

Just wait. He will reply. It must be related to Chia or something, because it's just too much of a coincidence.

The company seems to own 3000-3500 IPv4 IPs - worth at least 28k, easy to find another 30k in at least some hardware anyway.

If he's really swamped and he can't make it himself, he should at least relay some updates or news to his customers through Mike (though Mike's only providing support and nothing more) or any HS rep (if there's any).

The RCA can come later but there needs to be an FYI/A to begin with.

Downtime happened in the past, and services came back online. I think this will be solved too.

Downtime without 0 explanation for such long time never seen before. Optimizm should be abandoned in this case.

I agree with you about the optimism part. However, the context is a bit different. We all know he was selling storage servers on a bear minimum price. Chia changed the price of all storage by +200%, and if people were plotting (thereby destroying his units), now it's difficult to buy new hardware with current prices, and still remain competitive on the market with same offers, while also making some profits.

This is why, to be honest, I strongly think it's related to Chia. It's not just a coincidence in my opinion.

I do not like him not replying either. Maybe he still tries to figure things out in datacenter, without having an ETA to communicate towards customers. I don't know, just assuming, because for other services of the business he is still active and paying his employees.

With HS history always repeating itself, we can see a pattern: some downtime > some customers complaining > some days later things get back online. I don't expect things to be any different now.

@default trolling people so hard, they still fall for that.

Has anyone already successfully chargeback money?

I've discussed this today with Marius and told him that he really needs to explain what's going on - so far, I know very little details as well, trying my best to help you guys, but this was a storage issue / hardware fail, presumably due to a failed UPS.
