OK, some good news at least. Even though I placed my order 251 days ago, I was still able to open a PayPal dispute and they seem to have it to automatically issue refunds.
They deserve some credit for this.A full refund was immediately granted automatically.Read next comment.
Scratch that - even though it says "a full refund was sent on.", the case became automatically "decided in seller's favor" and no actual refund was processed because I was over the 180 days.
Confusing - but it may work for you if you're less than 180 days in since they seem to have it auto-refunding.
...so, what company would you guys recommend for good price VPS that won't just disappear in 5 or 6 months?
@delt at this point it’s clear there’s only 3 categories of hosters:
-1- The very big ones: Aliyun (Alibaba’s cloud), Google Cloud Computing, Amazon Web Services.
-2- The big ones: OVH. Online.net. Hetzner.
-3- The smaller LET ones: @Francisco, @MikeA, @Hostdoc, @Oliver (and maybe an extra one or two here and there that are worth mentioning depending on what you need).
Then there’s trash and garbage hosters, I pretty much summed it up for you.
PS: Not to sound smug or anything but Google is your friend.
tcp6: thanks... pretty much what i expected.
btw just wondering about your name... with ipv6 the (near) exact same tcp protocol is used... so is "tcp6" a reference to something else completely?
You welcome.
I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you. We all have our dirty naughty secrets.
Enjoy.
hmmm I'd say there are actually plenty of great hosts on LET. Also quite a few "not perfect but good enough and the price is right" options.
The scammers and summerhosts just tend to make the most noise, either coming or going.
(And of course the lifeblood of LET is drama and schadenfreude - might keep more of us coming back to the site than the actual deals etc. For a while at least... )
Not looking to blame victims or excuse those who enable these scams - but ... getting burned after buying into some glib puffery and paying some unknown entity one, two, or even three years up front for promised services of dubious quality ... seems to me is ultimately some relatively cheap tuition in the school of hard knocks.
Coming to think of it, there’s also Vultr and Digital Ocean as worthy hosters.
sorry, have to plead ignorance as to the finer points of Vultr and DO. Appreciate the question but maybe dasn't derail this otherwise richly entertaining and educational thread.
Just wanted to note (my strong opinion) that there are (dozens?) of hosts worthy of consideration, depending on one's low-end needs.
-1- The very big ones: Aliyun (Alibaba’s cloud), Google Cloud Computing, Amazon Web Services.
Plenty more good ones hanging around, you don't normally hear much from people who are happy with their services.
Might almost be time for another provider poll.
It was a mere attempt at turning a mostly “negative” thread filed with cursing, ranting, accusations and witch hunting into something actually “positive” and useful.
Now that is actually a good idea.
My point being: With so many good hosters with trustworthy reputation and top notch service around, there’s no reason to go for deadpooling providers which in the end are what they truly are to begin with: scammers and con artists.
Don't forget Lunanode.
Also filed a paypal complaint. This is crazy, they can't just disappear without letting us to backup our data
Welcome to lowendtalk, you must be new here.
Fixed your comment. For a lot of people not sure Online.net is good as I have read a lot of complains here; also Hostdoc is quite new I think.
Some other providers I've been using and people can trust: @vapornode, GoMach5 @GM5, @VirMach, Heymman Servers, Digital Ocean, SpeedyKVM @ryanarp, CrocWeb (lowendprice if you manage to get a $50 package for 3 years).
Googling for about 10 seconds will save a lot of headaches.
Obviously, it is up to you to do some homework. Common sense also plays a part.
We should have a deadpool’ed company counter.
It has been - 0 - days since last deadpool
I was going to buy lowenddeadpool.com to make something funny but it redirects to Novadedi
How about deadpoolreport.tld?
or deadpool.report if that's untaken.
Or itoldyouso.tld
At least that one matches your (current) signature.
isitdeadorjustme.com - point it here.
For the price Hiformance had, it's impossible. Try hostus.us or Crowncloud for newer providers with reasonably similar offers and data centers or buyvm Linode for guys that are a little more $$ but will probably never disappear.
Oh yeah Linode, completely forgot about them.
Really, when it comes to finding a reliable provider, sky is the limit.
I might have missed a few, these are like the top 10 in terms of “reliability” that come off the top of my head.
I’m not saying they won’t run off with your hard earned money should they take a dive, but your dataz (doxx/credit card details) should be safe with them.
In the end it’s all about finding the right offer that matches your needs rather than looking for that “perfect” provider.
Alibaba cloud has spammed on here more than they'd like to admit. Would avoid.
Add Lunanode please.
really?

well ... I'd venture to surmise this is what people talking out their ass might smell like. FFS.
just saying ... a little research can go a long way sometimes - or not.
Then again, here I am arguing with trolls on LET, so what do I know anyway?
