My LT1701.1 HDD drives are averaging at 145 MB/s? Keepers?

Did try Intel 160GB vs Samsung 128GB SSD with fio using the following command:

    Read: fio --name=randread --ioengine=libaio --iodepth=16 --rw=randread --bs=4k --direct=0 --size=2G --numjobs=8 --runtime=240 --group_reporting

    Write: fio --name=randwrite --ioengine=libaio --iodepth=1 --rw=randwrite --bs=4k --direct=0 --size=2G --numjobs=8 --runtime=240 --group_reporting

    Results:

As expected there is a difference but it's not huge:

18k IOPS for Intel / 24k for Samsung

    Read 134MB/s Intel / 165MB/s Samsung

    Write 75MB/s Intel / 97MB/s Samsung.

Considering that the Intel drive is bigger and might last longer it's quite good IMO.

Age is different though: Intel is 480 day old while Samsung is 250 days old.

How long does it take to deliver the server?

Are your account verified? It took only around one minute from I ordered to my server was ready. Little longer for the second one that was a MD DEALS 1701.1

  • Why do the benchmark say CPU frequency : 1200.000 MHz while CPU model : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C2750 @ 2.40GHz ?

Is it 1.2ghz or 2.4ghz? I am confused.

2.4 but when idling it goes down to 1.2Ghz

Yes! my account is verified and it's not my first server with them.
Hope there is not a problem of lack of stock!

  • Better check your:

    smartctl -l devstat /dev/sda

to find out much writes do these SSD's had before:

    Device Statistics (GP Log 0x04)
Page Offset Size Value Flags Description
    0x01  =====  =               =  ===  == General Statistics (rev 2) ==

    0x01 0x028 6 7924570041 --- Logical Sectors Read

    Then use:

    http://www.unitconversion.org/data-storage/blocks-to-gigabytes-conversion.html

to convert 7979655760 to GB = 3804.996376038 which means 3.8 TB writes - almost nothing for enterprise SSD :)

I checked atop and it shows very busy hdd's and what else. Fresh Ubuntu 16.04

    DSK | sdb | busy 83% | read 0 | write 2170 | avio 3.80 ms |
    DSK | sda | busy 74% | read 2166 | write 5 | avio 3.38 ms |

What's going on? Are disks bad and keep load high or what?
