    @MarkTurner

now it seems the route to China Unicom was changed back to cogent again? bad news...I'd rather select above, the cogent is the worst line provider to China :(

  • @hotsnow - our routing to China will change again very shortly back via Hong Kong then into our direct China Unicom/Netcom connections. PM me your email and I'll let you know the schedule once I have it

  • @hotsnow - also PM me the IP blocks you are trying to reach in China, I maybe able to tweak those for you.

    pm sent, thanks :)

I just emailed Steve to try to order a subnet. I'll report back if that succeeds.

I ordered the subnet on Thursday and received it yesterday afternoon. By default, the subnet isn't set up with a gateway, but at the suggestion of @MarkTurner I raised a ticket with Delimiter and they set one up within the subnet block I received.

Everything works perfectly now, and my VMs are seeing the internet.

  • One thing I noticed is Intel VT-x was disabled in the HP BL460c bios. Easy enough fix with the KVM. Needed if you want to install a 64 bit guest OS in Virtual Box like me.

in addition, do you have requested any IPv6? I'm still waiting their IPv6...

Same here, Mark said he'll try to get info on Monday.

if I order a /29 IPv4, it should be have 6 ips, but 5 usable except an ip use as gateway, I wonder how do you charge for it? $6/m or $5/m? :)

  • @hotsnow - no idea, you need to ask [email protected]. I would assume they'd charge you per IP irrespective of purpose. /29 = 8 IPs so 8 x $1. But check, I am just guessing

They quoted $1/IP, so a /29 was $8 (5 usable, 1 gateway, broadcast, and network ID).

well, thanks... sounds not good :(

I guess if I only order 4 usable ips, not a subnet, it will be single ip with /32 mask, and have no any gateway can use :(

That was my experience, but the ability to run ESXi was worth the extra $3/mo. You might be able to get Xen to work if you wanted to use single IPs (my understanding is that since Xen runs on top of an actual OS it can be configured to route) but my experience there is limited.

Keep in mind that what you ultimately end up with is a /29 (5 usable IPs) + the host IP for your management interface, so you actually could run 5 separate servers in the /29.

yep, with a /29 & ESXi, I can setup 5 separate vps on the BL460C, the original ip comes with BL460C can be used as the management ip of ESXi, is my this understanding right? thanks :)

Correct - that is how I have mine currently set up right now.

    Can't ESXi use NAT?

the route still goes to cogent :(

in addition, any updates on IPv6?

    thanks :)

  • @hotsnow - IPv6 they started issuing yesterday so if you have an existing IPv6 request you should see it anytime today/tomorrow

Do you mean the route TO Atlanta or the route FROM Atlanta to those subnets you gave me.

    currently both they are,

From my local subnets to Atlanta is: me->ALTER->Cogent->Atlanta

From Atlanta to my subnets is: Atlanta->Cogent->sprintlink->me

  • how quick is the server setup, i dont see where i can choose location of server..

I think their only in Atlanta.

  • This ^, setup just depends but should be within 3 days.

Email their sales@. Most of the deals are Atlanta only but some they are willing to give in LA [the two most expensive iirc]

  • LA huh? Do you have any services with them there? How is it?

  • @AThomasHowe - Yomura has services in 11 US cities. Delimiter offers only Atlanta and starting to offer LA, Dallas, NY and Minneapolis

  • Nice. I know you (Yomura) had a few locations but I didn't know it was 11.

Although they may aswell all be the same thing to me being in the UK ;) lol

  • @AThomasHowe - In the UK we have London and Manchester

    What facility in London?

  • Also very nice. My dream facility (closest) would be NextGen

    http://www.nextgenerationdata.co.uk

But as of yet there don't seem to be too many low end providers using them yet.

  • @Infinity - Telehouse West and Telehouse East
