  • Since it turns out they haven't been able to bill me for several months due to their other fuckup, and my unused VPS is offline because I'm not paying for it because they fucked up their billing, I'm not really inclined to care about anything from them and they can delete my account.

However they won't let me delete my account unless I verify my identity.

@Dasabo this message is a formal GDPR notice that I want you to send me a copy of all information you have about me, then delete my account.

=> File a police case against them
=> open a thread ( if not existing yet ) here in the forum with the casenumber and policestation address
=> watch the thread and update your police case sharing new casenumbers to the police treating your own case

If this is done by 10-20+ people then this will be considered a organised crime and that WILL trigger serious police action in any european country. And that will probably hurt. Jail-like hurt. Usually no one will do that and just refund.

But the requirement for this all is, that people really do file something at police - and not just mimimi about it ;-)

    :D :D :D

This is not a case for the police, they will do absolutely nothing, and this has absolutely nothing to do with organized crime.

    You can complain to
    https://commission.europa.eu/topics/consumers/consumer-rights-and-complaints/resolve-your-consumer-complaint_en

or your local consumer ombudsman, if you have one in your country.

There are a couple of criminal charges that do come in mind that you can report

The law does not demand a specific channel data subjects have to follow. It's a valid GDPR request and Dasabo should act on it properly.

@OpaqueRegistrant, since you properly tagged him, next time Dasabo logs in save it as evidence that he received your request, that's the start of one month period and you should get a proper reply.

    It does actually but ok.

  • Right, the law just says they have to follow requests. It doesn't say what the request has to look like. I lied about the request being formal though, that was extremely informal.

The law does however say that they need to verify the identity of the requester, so unless you are willing to provide your full personal information here on the forum I do not think your request is valid.

Not necessarily, bear in mind that GDPR was drafted with 'less is more' in mind.

  • Feel free to contact us via live chat. Please note that once the 10-day period expires, accounts for which KYC has not been completed will be closed and services terminated; therefore, there will be no automatic renewal in any case.
As for the claim that you never agreed to share your data during registration or purchase, that isn't true which leads me to assume you accepted the agreement without reading it...
P.S. Access to the service has not been suspended, so you can back up your data during this period.

It will be hard if people charge back their payments, stripe charge around £15 GBP per charge back

  • That's terrifying.

Not everyone is gonna do that and regardless probably worth it for them anyways cause they can free up resources they are selling dirt cheap and instead sell it to people who pay more (especially considering the situation with ram) rn

If too many people do it stripe would consider it high risk, close the account. There are not many card providers that process card payments for hosting providers.

If you have a stripe balance they can also decide to hold that for a few months to cover any future chargebacks, depending on volume it can sink a company, even if someone paid them $1 and started a chargeback its that plus the fees which soon add up.

  • Additionally, they also raised the previous '12eu biennially' recurring prices to '60eu/biennially' for a 1c1g10g vps..

Its not. Just submit a ticket from your account or mail them from your email address associated with their account.

They might want to force you to identify yourself in order to follow up on your request which they should not be entitled to unless they have good reason for it, which they (most probably)have not.

That being said, once they decline and fail to deliver within legal period you can report them.

Question being... Who do you report? They company structure is kinda ... its there for a reason.

Then there's the authorities who can be kinda slow on this. Although they do follow through.

VeloxMedia declined to give me my data upon request, that case is still ongoing but making progress. Upside, it's taking ages and effort but finally get to know the cunt that runs that show.

Anyways... Regarding these cheap summerhosts, it's not worth the effort and time. Most can't be bothered and that's what they're betting on.

But you know, don't let this stop anyone if you feel up to it.

Its good sharing these experiences here though so people are warned. Any host enforcing KYC and denying Gdpr request like this one cannot be trusted with your PI.

    They done anyway imho.

They got the forum boss's sympathy and help over on the other Forum, lol.

  • If a provider wants to do KYC, it's their choice, as long as the customer is aware of it at
registration, or at least during the first payment, but doing it for existing customers and
holding their stuff as collateral is an absolute dick move. Good thing they got banned here

Good point. If KYC provider wants customer ID, it is only fair for KYC provider to share their own ID first!

Seriously though, I hope many people do chargeback. Not fair for them to change the terms like this.

  • I bought a 3-year subscription from them. I have 2 years left. It's a great gift. It's a good business. They take my money and don't provide the service.
