    Woo Hoo!

Could you also consider a "pooled" S3 plan - where we can have some S3 storage (pooled across locations) for redundancy? It would be very comforting to know that I have 2 copies of my backups on your S3 storage in 2 locations :-)

you mean splitting 250G into 125GB in AU and 125GB in SG?

Yes - something along those lines where we buy an S3 service and divvy up the chunks across locations. It would be nice to have some flexibility (upper/lower bounds?) on how to split things (so may not always be equally).

Not sure if there's enough demand for something like this but if there was such flexibility, it would be really awesome.

    Scheduled Maintenance: Hypervisor Security Updates

Over the next few days, we will be upgrading performing software updates of our hypervisors across all locations to apply critical security patches.

This maintenance will begin with our Amsterdam location on July 8, 2026, at 12:30 PM UTC (approximately 18 hours from this announcement). Other regions will follow shortly after.

We recommend subscribing to our status page to receive real-time updates and scheduling notifications for your specific region.

    Expected Service Impact:

    • EPYC Premium VMs with High-Availability enabled - No downtime is expected, the VMs will be live-migrated to a different node during maintenance period.
    • SEV-SNP Enabled VMs - Due to the hardware-level security features of SEV-SNP, these instances cannot be live-migrated. They will be gracefully restarted on a different node, resulting in approximately 2 to 3 minutes of downtime.

We apologize for the short notice. These urgent security updates are necessary to ensure the ongoing stability and security of our infrastructure.
Please reach out to our support team if you have any questions or concerns.

    Thank you for your understanding,
    Onidel Team

@onidel I like your VPS, but it's quite annoying that the noVNC console is so unreliable. Often times it just shows the error "Failed to connect to server".

There's some work being done in the Linux kernel to make in-place kernel upgrades possible in many cases with zero downtime. That will probably make it possible to prevent downtime even for VMs using SEV-SNP.

can you DM me your account/service details so i can have a look? there's improvements in the last couple of months and it is much more reliable than it was and we haven't received any reports.

Amsterdam upgrade has been completed successfully, and no issues were encountered during the maintenance window.

We will begin the NYC maintenance on July 9, 2026, at 12:30 PM UTC (approximately 10 hours from now). As with the Amsterdam upgrade, we do not expect any downtime for VMs that are not using AMD SEV-SNP.

The NYC kernel patch has been completed successfully, and there was no downtime for VMs during the maintenance window, except for those using AMD SEV-SNP, which required a brief reboot.

We will perform the same kernel upgrade on the Sydney clusters tomorrow (actually today 10th July), starting at 23:00 AEST. As with the NYC and AMS maintenance, we do not expect any downtime for VMs that are not using AMD SEV-SNP during this maintenance window.

The Ho Chi Minh (🇻🇳) hypervisors have also been quietly patched today without any downtime for our valued customers. We were able to live migrate each VM since we don't support SEV-SNP there.

Singapore (🇸🇬) will be the final location to be upgraded, likely over the weekend, but the exact timeline will be announced tomorrow.

    • EPYC Premium VMs will be live-migrated with no downtime expected. (this concerns most of the VMs)
    • EPYC Premium VMs with SEV-SNP enabled will be rebooted and restarted on a different hypervisor.
    • EPYC Turbo VMs may experience brief outage during the hypervisor reboot as they do not have High-Availability.

@oloke said: We apologize for the short notice.

In my opinion, giving short notice for a security upgrade is a sign that the provider values security highly and is something to be commended.

Any plans to have LA or similar location?

    This.

Honestly just cancelled what I had as my decision in Singapore was honestly poor judgement from me. So I’m waiting for a closer US West… Portland or Seattle would be good too.

And… I think you know me… need loads of BW… but I’m sure everyone isn’t me.

Don’t get me wrong, you guys do great things and you give a fuck… which is not what I could say about some, including the ones I currently have servers with… my needs are just too much for Onidel… for now…

Just saw the email about moving from Stripe to Paddle. Trying to understand if there’s implications of this section

    Pricing and tax
Before this change, all listed prices were tax-inclusive. Our listed prices are now tax-exclusive. Payments processed through Paddle will be subject to tax (such as VAT, GST, or sales tax) based on your billing address. The applicable tax, if any, will be calculated and shown at checkout. If you have a valid tax ID (such as a VAT or GST number), you can enter it at checkout, and reverse charge may be applied where eligible - meaning tax won't be added to your invoice.

Customers with accounts created before 6 July 2026 8:00 UTC will continue to benefit from tax-inclusive pricing, even when payments are processed through Paddle, until 15 July 2026 00:00 UTC

Sort of reads to me as though the list price isn’t changing, and from 15 July 2026 tax is on top. Is that the case, or are older customers just going to see a different list price, and from 15 July the tax that was previously included in the price will be removed (lower list price, but neutral cost once we have tax added back at checkout).

Wondering if this is cost neutral…or should I make early renewals/load up some credit.

list price isn't changing - it was tax-inclusive, now it is tax-exclusive.

new customers will have tax added on top of the list price, depend on where the billing address is. AU is 10%, US is 0%, etc

existing customers, will not pay tax on top of the list price until 15 July

so it's better to make early renewals / topup credit now.

    hope it makes sense

Reminder this kicks-in in two days, for those impacted.

Won’t go too nuts, but had a few renewals due not too far from now.
