HostSailor AMS network issues

    If I not wrong, HostSailor and their main upstream provider (TNGNET - tngnet.com) is an old IRC friendly host since the beginning. IRC is not the satan itself. Sadly less and less ppl use IRC every year, and usually IRC users have problems with each others, not with the host/IRC server(s) itself. I accept, it can be a ddos magnet, but there is no evidence this happened (it's just a theory from the lot).

    HostSailor is one of my oldest, reliable provider (from LET) with own infrastructure (hardware, IP ranges, etc). I had no problems with them in the recent years. I hope (try to believe), they will be able to solve this situation ASAP.

    @HostSailor Please inform Your customers via email also, because I'm not sure, all of them use LET, or check it daily. :)

    There is any update, info about the current status?

    Damn, you're so annoying with that. You keep repeating "IRC, IRC, IRC..." as if you actually knew what's being DDoSed and what isn't, and as if anyone would still care enough about those IRC networks to DDoS them.
    Most, if not all, of their IRC servers aren't even in AMS, but in RO.

    I haven't seen a DDoS attack on an IRC server on IRCnet in at least a decade and yes, they host server there as well. I can only thank the companies that still support this old, old semi-forgotten part of the internet, even though there's not much going on anymore.

  • zedzed Member

    yea its not like they run an efnet server or anything sheesh

    No one on IRC has that much DDoS power, nor IRCnet or Undernet. ( not anymore )

    Exactly.
    Because no one gives a shit anymore, and surely not us, old idlers. Channel takeovers, nick jupes, mass collides... are thing of the past. Mostly not even technically possible anymore.
    Why would someone even ddos irc server today? That's so early 2000s.

    they still do that on undernet, BUT not with so much power, they just split the server for a few minutes tops. they have other FRIENDS who hit them, its 100% not irc

    Why would anyone want to hit (and hold for a prolonged period) a network that was not fine even on it's own for a few weeks (months?)

    I don't know if these attacks mentioned by HostSailor have something to do with HostSailor hosting IRC servers, but the fact still remains: IRC still represents a magnet for DDoS. If you don't believe it, fine. Feel free to ask the staff of major IRC networks and you will get your answers.

    If I bothered you, I won't apologise. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

    Yeah. You may see me being sarcastic about them here, but grepped my IRC logs for sailor,

    (2025)
    Dec 09 18:12:06 renewed my hostsailor
    Dec 09 18:12:10     10/10 perfect year
    Dec 09 18:12:50     super stable

    (2026)
    Mar 30 16:00:51 sailor blames my ISP

    Apr 02 15:18:11 sailor keeps telling me everything is ok, because nobody else complains

    Apr 03 22:57:21 I think sailor is a cancel even if they solve this

    And we know how it went from there.

    You can have my 2 VPS: Commodore / Sailor
    Price prorated to remaining time + transfer fees if any
    Buyer takes all, don't want to deal with support twice

    I need money to buy disk space to store all the emails sent by my monitoring systems since 2 months

    Redundancy, ftw.
    The time people spend on this, insane.

    Just let it be, migrate your shit, check again in a week.
    If its fixed, nice, if its still down, chargeback yesterdayTM.

    No! That is not the proper low-end attitude! Don't listen to this guy!

    The proper way for low-end drama it is like this:

    • don't migrate data;
    • don't make backups, unless you're really bored or something;
    • open tickets and make screenshots and post on LET;
    • threaten with chargebacks and Paypal disputes;
    • always prepare with popcorn.

    Hello, a quick update from our side is the network situation is currently under control and most affected services have been restored. However, our team is continuously working on to solve it fully.

    At this moment, routing for the majority of affected ranges has been restored and we are continuing to monitor stability closely.

    Right now our focus is on keeping things stable first and making sure the network remains healthy before calling this fully resolved.

    Sincere apologies for the inconvenience it has caused.

    brother in christ.
    My mesh network routes around fuckery, its build for that.

    Why open ticket when you can just let it reroute automatically.
    Only if its affecting my ping, I might open a ticket and complain.
