    @forest

I got the email as well. I have logged into the client panel and I see no changes whatsoever, in particular "next due date" still is the original one.

As I never felt threatened by Eric (or Lewis), my VPS still is up and working fine, and I do not mind VeloxMedia Inc. having my PI, I have no reason to ask "what the opt-out would look like" or to needlessly add to their currently probably high workload in any way.

What I'm not perfectly happy with is only how they got my PI, but that IMO is on Lewis (not Eric). But anyway as VeloxMedia Inc does host my VPS I presume they do need my PI and I do not mind at all.

Whether they'll host my VPS for the full period or only 1 year I do not know and of course would like to know, but that's not urgent and I won't open a ticket to ask. I guess they'll inform me in one way or another once their workload is lower.

As for other Lewis customers I hope they can keep their VPS too (if they want), at least those not having taken part in the witch hunt against @VeloxMedia / Eric.

Lewis if you're reading this I want you to know that I'd be interested in reading the actual story some day, even if it's tame compared to our theories. Feel free to drop me a note privately from any of your personalities.

They're going to make a movie about it in 20 years time

The amount of time wasted in this thread will correlate with a loss in GDP.

Can I be in that movie.. 😂

If you require additional information related to this transition, or would like to opt out in this transition, please contact us through the client portal.

Aka "if you don't like this, tell us and we'll terminate you without refund". Does anyone who still has a service and is brave enough to risk it want to contact him through the portal and simply ask what the opt-out would look like without actually demanding to be opted-out? @jsg maybe (not mentioning you in an insulting way, but genuinely wondering if you would)?

I'm game. Let's see what happens.

Don't worry. I'll update you about how they got it later. Or at least once they replied to my inquiry.

Its on both. Tbh. Illegally obtaining PII is on both the seller and the buyer. I don't think it's different in the us.

Dear VeloxMedia Inc / Data Protection Officer,

Thank you for your response. As per the [UK GDPR / EU GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018] you have acknowledged my request by responding.

Thank you for taking your time. That being said, although I could complain through ico if I would want to, there's no legal obligation for me to go through ico to make a simple SAR request. They are no party in this matter.

Please provide the requested information in a commonly used electronic format.

FWIW you shouldn't have to give them any more information than they might already hold about you. Even on that form, it states it's optional to include it.

If he refuses to do it because you don't include photo ID, that's another violation.

Also, I don't think they can refuse the request received in any form. All this form is doing anyway is sending an e-mail to the address you type in at the top.

If you have sent a ticket from the control panel, they already have everything they need to identify you anyway.

Exactly... He's overly obsessed about the ICO cos you pointed that out earlier on but its just one of the many.

It doesn't matter... You can address it to anyone within the company, preferably the DPO. Looks like he got my request. He did sign with system management this time though.

Good thing he mailed me an hour's before stating he is the DPO

What he hasn't realised yet is that the only reasons I asked to see his ICO registration is because:

    a) It's a legal requirement to be registered if you handle UK citizen's data
    b) Getting the registration means he has to make a legally binding statement that he has fully understood the requirements of the law and will act accordingly
    c) The name and contact details for the DPO are publicly available

It doesn't matter... You can address it to anyone within the company, preferably the DPO. Looks like he got my request. He did sign with system management this time though.

Haha, imagine this with AI hats added:

Eric most have a lot of heads for the hats he's wearing.

Good thing he mailed me an hour's before stating he is the DPO

That's handy. Because when he edited the privacy policy to remove Lewis, he's made it non-compliant as it no longer states who the DPO is, it just gives an e-mail address. Naughty naughty.

Hes been very naughty. Hes probably gonna take his sweet time responding now. Granted, SAR request are a bitch to handle although not that hard for a hosting company regarding a 1 month old user.

From my understanding ICO verifies that filling is paid and the data is in all mandatory fields. They do not verify if Velox Media exists at all. Btw. There is still no trace of Velox Media Inc registration in any PE records so that might be misleading on purpose to avoid responsibility.

    @jbiloh @DP @FAT32

  • Until proven otherwise, for me, "VeloxMedia" is still a one-man-band that let people believe it's a big company.

From what I've seen upto now, "Eric Banks" has "acquired" VeloxMedia by himself, runs it in his spare time, and his daytime job may include all that "big company talk", but in the end he'll turn out to be just a employee that does 1 or 2 things in it. Most likely his bos won't even know what's going on.

But hey, that's my impression. Wouldn't be anything wrong with it, if he acted differently towards his customers.
