hmmm, me too
Glad you bought it back when it was cheap
Lots of $$ saved there with 4x48GB
I think as soon as LLMs show a decrease in advancing we’re fucked
But as long as they continue improving so fast I think the bull train continues on
Not sure if we can keep them getting better for years or if we’re about to hit a wall though
Indeed, I missed it. That would have been perfect for one of my "I really should get around to this" projects! Alas.
Damn, I have got spare 16GB RAM memory, need to sell it quickly.
Idiot capitalists equipped with AI took our jobs, and idiot capitalists with or without AI will continue taking our jobs.
That happened years ago. OpenAI admits it hasn't had a successful pre-training run in years, so they can't even replicate what happened years ago.
Isn't hosting usually deflationary? Are things difference recently?
yes, hardware cost quadrupled because OpenAI bought all the hardware
A lot has changed in the last year but primarily costs have gone up for providers.
A great deal this year would be last year's price for the same specification - although I found few of these too.
The bad news is that Samsung, Hynix and Micron basically said they're not interested in ramping production and rather ride the profitability wave.
The good news is that we get more AI generated reviews.
Yea, they also reduced production when the price was too low previously, so not that surprised they don't want to ramp up, but still all of the manufacturers doing the same on this kind of looks like a cartel to me. May it lead to sanctions like in 2002 with the DRAM price fixing scandal?
Also, the more the days pass, the crazier the news gets...
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Not-even-gamer-DDR5-RAM-kits-are-safe-from-OpenAI-as-OpenAI-employees-are-allegedly-buying-any-DDR5-kit-they-can.1176107.0.html
Hope this insanity will calm down...
So yeah, next Black Friday is not gonna be great...
Yah it's no surprise them 3 act like a cartel. They want to be the OPEC of flash memory. They're not being bashful about it either, just like during the fixing scandal.
Can't wait til the utility company starts charging more because AI data centers are buying >50% of the capacity.
On the bright side, price per GiB is still cheaper than RIMMs.
Calm down and wait when openai pops.
That makes 2 of us, well, just bought a new fridge cause the old one decided to leave the chat for good.
Now this fella nailed it 100%
and when you say you consume ~7MWh / MO, they see you like a fat roasted pig.
This.
RAM prices are going up, so it's harder to offer killer deals.
We still have quite a bit of stock left, but I really hope RAM prices fall before we deplete stock (unlikely). Maybe an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon, Microsoft and Google
?
sincerely, all look like shit
RAM, HDD ( Jesus, I just payed 30% more fore the same shit I bought 6 mo ago ), CPU and so on..... did I say that Electricity is like GAS price in EU???? wtffffff......

On thing is to get it, as that u usually manage to do, but the shit weights it's price in KW in 12 mo.
Micron came out straight and was just like, "we are making way more manufacturing memory for AI demand" good bye consumer grade products. Its not just memory that is currently impossible to find even if you are willing to pay the 400% increase, NVMe's are going to go through the roof.
Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.

The news just gets worse and worse by the day. Current predictions are 2 - 3 years before there is any meaningful production. SK Hynix and Samsung have both also stated they will not kick up manufacturing.
Where are people gonna get their RGB memory tat from now?
I also didn't buy a vps this BF. just b/c the ones I like were sold out quickly.
btw, is there any other offer that a VPS with 2 EPYC/4G RAM/80G DISK for 20 EUR/yr?
I will definitely keep my beanman109 vps.
Looking all the BF offer made me disappointed.
Blame the anti-nuclear activists. There's a huge gap in solar energy production between summer and winter, but demand grew in the winter.

I haven't made any purchases too this BF, i've made better purchases just by random offers or flash sales during the year posted here.
Quite honestly, i couldn't keep up with the megathread's memes and gifs and somewhere scattered in between the actual deals.
Haha, I used to be on that side as well - until I learned how a hosting business actually works behind the scenes. It’s pretty wild!
Kidneys will soon be cheaper.
What's quite amusing is that very few suppliers differentiate themselves. The vast majority of offers are similar. The good news for buyers of this standard is that there is fierce price competition, so it's possible to get some great deals.
However, it is with atypical offerings, which also require technical expertise and less standard hardware choices (much more SSD, or a return to hard drives without necessarily being a storage offering, as requested here), that suppliers could differentiate themselves, attract new customers with less competition, and thus achieve better margins.
I hate to say this, but before blaming the Black Friday event, or the LET community, or the providers, please look at how the world around us is going to shit due to the "wise" politicians we have. If you want a better world, please consider protesting now. We need to send a signal to our politicians which care only about their corruption and the greed of corporations. The working people need to wake up and protest, otherwise civilisation as we know it will be destroyed by warmongers.
This is a great point. As a provider that can always use feedback, what type of configs would you like to see offered in example?
I'm probably not your ideal customer, as I use very few VPSs with common specs (n8n, Discourse). However, if you use AI to analyze all the posts in the “Request” section of various forums, such as LET, WHT, and others, you'll get a good idea of the services and specs that are most in demand but poorly covered by your peers. Being leader on some niche market is always a lucrative strategy and provide side business. Indeed, you already have an incredible reputation here.
Incidentally, feel free to visit my profil or join the Salesty group on LinkedIn. I would love to work with you if you give me this opportunity
I've bought cheap and never had any problems. Then again, I buy cheap from reliable hosters, not "new" ones with weird names, which I've never heard of before.
