Gotta say, I'm disappointed by this years BF

If you could see my fleet of servers, they all have BF2019, BF2022 in the service name, etc., for the great deals they were, and I still use them. This year, I bought NOTHING. NO THING. nada. Either the RAM was good (8GB or higher) but came with a measly 30GB or 50GB ssd. Da heck am I gonna do with that small space? BUT, 2TB storage deals came with, unbelievably, 500MB or 1GB RAM? What??? Where does a guy need to go to find min specs like 8GB RAM + 2TB or more storage (SSD, HDD, doesn't matter, it's the amount that's important. All I wanna do is run Easypanel or Runtipi or Cloudron or the like, which all offer apps that require a fair bit of RAM, and of course, need space for backups. But nope. A good old fashioned KS-1 woul have even been nice. Oh well.

  • Same story here.

This was my first BlackFriday event in this LET. I have come here on and off to this site to research VPS, but have never stayed enough to create an account.

Anyways, I needed a low cost dedicated for a project, so I was here for past three days going through the thread for any deals.

Yesterday, I was on like 11 in dartnodes dedicated for $99/yr. And I was reading more on it, and thought of clicking the few other links he had posted...and instantly, it put me to the last of the line at 35.

Today, after I woke up and checked the thread half asleep, I easily found one, and added to cart. It was a good dedicated from colocrossing for $99/yr. I added it to cart, and I was like "why is this still available if it is so good". Something must be wrong. So, I went to research about it for few mins and the deal was gone.

For past few days any good deal instantly vaporizes in seconds before I can even add to cart. So, it was suspicious that it was still available half hour after it was posted.

Moments later, I got cometVPS dedicated with 32GB RAM for $99, and I managed to add it, and same thing, I got suspicipous as I had never heard of such a company before and before I made up my mind, it was gone. But it was there for good few minutes being available.

Only thing I ended up buying was $7 per year vps of dartnode.

    End of my lowend talks.

    1. Buy without thinking.
    2. If there's a problem, chargeback.

  • me too, but too cheap equals bad experience I think, what you purchase is always what you will get

  • I am not sure if people even look outside their bubble much. Everything is mad expensive and people are struggling to just put food on the table.

And hobbies are targeted even more. You can’t even build a PC for gaming anymore if you are budget conscious because ram alone is costing as much as a high end cpu or low end-mid range gpu. And ssds are slowly following suite. Prepare for a bumpy ride thanks to mindless AI push (not saying AI in itself is bad, the current “mindless” push is)

  • Compare to previous years, this year is cheaper. The previous years, 12$/yr was the minimum that providers can go, providing something 7$/yr is something unbelievable.

But, this is not really excited anymore since we lost our exotic deals, and the price after deduct is not really different from normal sale price

It will be more and more expensive each year, especially next year if the pricing trend for components stays the same.

And yes, Black Friday needs preparation to check providers' reputation, what could bring better value to current servers you own, be already connected to your client panel, ... The previous BF threads are still there.
Because the slight moment you think too much because you were not prepared enough, the deal is gone.

    @yoursunny said:

No, that is not a solution. Because of many people doing that, providers are starting to make non-refundable deals, especially reputable ones!
And no chargeback is not a refund; the provider needs to pay penalties, and all your accounts and services are suspended without a refund since it is a breach of their TOS.

For me, it's vCPU fair use. Why bother writing 2,3,4,6,8 vCPU when average load higher than 50% or even 30% would violate ToS

Sad truth. If you can't buy extreme quantities (i.e. >1,500 HDDs per clip) the pricing is atrocious. I have to imagine I've likely pissed off a bunch of resellers/vendors at this point, but I can't stand having a price thinking the order is locked and then getting some kind of "we counted inventory wrong" BS message and see the same item listed for 10-20% higher an hour later. Then repeat. I know most of them won't be around in 6-12 months given how fly-by-night the 'reseller' market can be, but I'm definitely making a list.

Luckily between prebuys preparing for a huge build out, always jumping on deals when I see them, and being careful/having some reasonable vendors (+ ability to purchase bulk) we're making it happen. This would have been brutal if it was within the first 2 years of launching CB, so I have a lot of sympathy for providers in that position right now. Keep in mind even at the MW scale (single digits) when I'm negotiating new sites, even we're being told to piss off and what "market rate" is (aka: hyperinflated AI-slop-vendor rate burning VC capital that will be BK in 12 months). They're wrong and we always find what we need for healthy, long-term relationships, but this industry went from sleepy quiet engineer types to finance-AI-bro types overnight and it's still coping.

With all that said: costs on every imaginable portion of the industry are up. Hardware, telco, space, power, labor, you name it. I didn't follow the deals too closely to comment, and we can't really participate because I am shit at doing pre-sales. I'd rather just run something as soon as the product is ready (ideally by EOY, will be thread/specials), but I have to imagine until pricing settles down it's going to be hard to meet/exceed previous years deals. Just DDR4 alone is up to nearly $3.5-4/GB--my last bulk purchases of these identical sticks was approx $0.65-0.85/GB... in April/May of 2025. When hardware is trading like oil commodities, becomes very difficult to run a business.

With all that said, I still think @FAT32 deserves a ton of praise for the tireless effort he singlehandedly does to get these events going just because of his pure love of the game. It's truly remarkable. Then he has dickhead providers asking him to make marketing puzzles with jacked mustached men mere hours before the event goes live on top of it all.

I believe if we all chip in, we can afford to buy some luxurious gift for @FAT32

How about a 4 GB RAM stick?

Should some big lads providers join in, it could be even a whooping 8 GB!!

This is LOW end. 64MB is all he needs. Let's make it 128MB so that he at least gets dual channel.

Jokes aside, you're spot on in that it is his love for this place that keeps him (and this place going). It's sad that no matter what we (try) to do, it'll not be enough compared to what he does (and puts up with) here.

Oh yea i experienced same. lmao

Ive made some orders. One for example got a few TB of DDR4 RAM for a okayish price. Next day the order was cancelled, vendor saying the same bullshit of "wrong stock because we list our items at many places, we are sorry order refunded bla" and then jack up prices.

VDS price are atrocious (except something like KS-A), that's why running multiple vps makes sense.
And, there's nothing stopping hosting to put unrealistic limit. For example, considering 10% average load as fair use, or demanding user to not use more than 50% of storage because it accelerate SSD/NVME wear down.
