Hetzner is voted 1 in vps provider self hosting survey.

    Well deserved IMO.

As long as you pass their gauntlet of undisclosed KYC requirements. It seems like half of people just get rejected as customers. And don't host anything controversial, like porn or anything about the middle east situation, because you'll be banned. Don't host user-generated content because it might contain porn or speech about the middle east.

  • Can you add a NVMe drive to AX41 with 4 HDDs?

  • The CX series is now a gamble. You can get either 1200 GB6 AMD Epyc Rome or 800 GB6 Intel Xeon Skylake.

  • Has anyone bought the new CX plans in NBG in the last few weeks and got Epyc Rome CPU?

I got quite a lot. You can spin up few nodes and you will get Rome. I noticed that chance is bigger on higher plans

In Helsinki I get AMD 9 times out of 10

Yeah, I got AMD in Helsinki too, but no luck in NBG.

I tried twice, will try again.

  • Does any of you know if its possible to add a NVMe drive to the AMD R3600 with 4 HDDs already attached?

  • Not sure when it happened, but it looks like Hetzner removed the countdown timer for the next price drop on their auction servers. Not really a great change

Saw this last week, too. Seems the auction is no longer an "auction" —it's just fixed prices.

  • Anybody else having DNS issues with Hetzner's default DNS servers recently? My server is in the Falkenstein location.

Logs from the previous two days are showing intermittent "name resolution failure" errors using the default "185.12.64.1" and "185.12.64.2" DNS servers.

Have changed to a third-party DNS for now.

Thank you. I just booked one of these machines and asked for an upgrade, but it sadly is not possible to attach a 5th drive to R3600 servers beside the fact all of the 4 drives are HDDs.

On the configuration page, it's said only 4 drives allowed.

Bought one CX33 today and got an AMD! 1400+ single core GB6 on this compared to 800 on the Intel.

CX33 is a great deal now. I have an old CPX21 that costs 7.55/month for 3c/4gb/80gb while the new CX33 is 5.49/month for 4c/8gb/80gb (exact same processor and single core GB6). 1 extra core + double RAM for less price.

  • @Hetzner_OL Hey Katie, I know we’re all excited about Black Friday deals this year. I also know Hetzner doesn’t usually comment on future plans, but are you guys planning to double service prices again as part of this year’s Black Friday deals, by any chance?

    Fingers crossed!

  • the only thing 'low end' about hetzner is their customer service. if your vps needs justify retina scans, sacrificial first-born sons and obligatory bi-weekly urine screenings you might be shopping on the wrong end of the provider landscape..

@leroy - First, eww, no one wants your urine. Please keep that to yourself.
In all seriousness, it's all a matter of perspective. We fully understand our reputation when it comes to verifying accounts. And whether it seems like it or not from the outside, we do regularly review and optimize things to try to make things 1) easier for customers 2) effective at preventing abuse.
I think if most people walked a day in the shoes of our teammates who review new accounts or who respond to abuse reports, they might see things very differently. Our teams work very hard to do the best they can.

@Hetzner_OL 'ppreciate the offer but i'll pass. getting past the gauntlet is one thing but i'm not eager to live on the other side of said fortifications when some whizz-bang next-gen free-range ai security system slams a padlock on my account because 'to use a vpn means you're al qaeda'.

while hyperbolic it's not far from accurate. lucky for me it happened when i was trying to give you money vs after you'd already taken it.

i get it...you have resellers whose own tos absorbs whatever marginal risk you've deemed yourself unfit for, and you've heard this enough times to understand the scope of the nose as well as what the spited face looks like in its absence. and for what its worth you're likely on the front-end of a trend that others will soon be forced to follow. for your business, optimistically-speaking, at least the authoritarianism will be nothing new for your customers whereas others will have to contend with the uncertainty of churn.

Posts like this don't make your company look good.

I can see it. But some servers do reach a minimum price. I suppose if they can't even sell at their operating cost for a while, they are decommissioned.

So, are Chinese users genuinely unwelcome? I can't pass verification using completely real information, or is it that a passport or something similar is absolutely required to pass?
