Few feedbacks on the new Virtfusion control panel:
    1. DHCP (IPv4) is not supported
    2. IPv6 RA contains prefix that's not assigned to the VPS (had to disable IPv6 during manual OS installation because of this)
    3. Only web VNC is supported unlike SolusVM where you can use 3rd party vnc client
    4. Virtfusion supports UEFI but users can't enable on their own
    5. Update outdated iso to SystemRescue 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Debian LiveCD iso would be better than server installer only iso because of ZFS support issue :)
    6. Loading speed of custom iso is extremely slow at about 2MB/s. Is it normal for Virtfusion?

1 & 3 are supported options, but it’s up to the provider if they enable them.

4 will be available in v5.3 (current version is 5.2).

Sorry to interrupt but when will VirtFusion provide users with the ability to manage (add and remove) custom IPv6 addresses, as is currently possible with SolusVM?

While I don't really care about that in the panel, it might become important once @NDTN finally supports Reverse DNS records for IPv6 (as I am assuming that will then also be handled via the panel - and if I can't assign a custom IPv6 in the first place, I'll likely then not be able to set the Reverse DNS record).

Shouldn’t be long. It can go out in a minor release.

  • @VirtFusion - thanks for the soon-to-be-released IPv6 custom address selection fixes. This is really useful and long overdue.

On a related note, since you're "listening" and watching here, could you consider:

Providing templates with the default FS of distributions (e.g Debian's default FS is EXT4 but you seem to supply templates with XFS). One of the advantages of using EXT4 is that it is possible resize (without having to reinstall manually) and you get the freedom to repartition and use LVM and/or XFS for the other partition(s).

Specifically, I hope an EXT4 based Debian 12 (minimal) template can also be made available.

    Thanked by 2VirtFusion foitin
  • also not 4GB swap for debian 12 template? when the ram is only 2GB for example

1, 2. Are you installing from templates or custom isos?

I tried both custom iso and templates. DHCP is not supported either way. Other users also mentioned this issue above.

    1. Virtfusion is doing a great job here. VNC can be enabled from the control panel with the default option is disabled. This will enhance the security. We have a few customers on SolusVM claiming the VPS being hacked because they have the VNC open to 3rd party with weak password.

Can you disable 3rd party vnc by default but leave an option to users who would like to take the risk? At the end of the day, weak password of vnc is just like weak password of ssh, both are security risk.

    1. We will ask Virtfusion to enable that option for end users if needed, there is a feature called Elevate that we have asked them to enable for end users too: https://docs.virtfusion.com/guides/elevate/

    2. Could you please give more details, are the SystemRescue 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 LT isos not working?

They (new version iso) are working well. Currently pre downloaded iso are outdated and user downloaded custom iso seems to load slower. Same issue as below?

    1. It depends on the source iso location, you might need to find the closest location to the VPS's location in this case.

I copy the iso to ram first before installing custom iso. That's how I found out the copy speed was extremely slow.

    1. DHCP should work fine on templates. DHCP is not working on custom iso now, a ticket logged to @VirtFusion.
    2. VNC details are now available for customer to use with 3rd party apps. It's up to you to secure it now ;)
    3. Systemrescuecd 11 and Ubuntu 24 isos are now available.

Is it possible to add upload custom iso option in the future release?
I have built my custom iso. For it to work on VF I have to set up a web server, add ssl cert to it, upload to the server then download on VF control panel :/

Since many of us grabbed a lot of new VPS from top provider sale, would you consider adding an option to enable internal network/private network interface? It's going to be especially helpful for mounting a storage VPS to more powerful VPS/VDS.

Maybe I should cc @VirtFusion as well ;)

We are currently testing the private network in VirtFusion. It’s working well so far, but we will need additional time for testing and to collaborate with VirtFusion on implementing it properly before releasing it to end users.

  • @NDTN i got an email - Scheduled Migration for SG DC1
Can i get a test IP? Support says they can't provide any test IP. There are concerns that the new routing might not be as good as the current one.

  • Dear valued customer,

Following our previous notification, we are confirming the scheduled migration of our SG DC1 datacenter. As part of this transition, we will be relocating our rack from Digital Realty (formerly Cyxtera) to Global Switch Tai Seng with our new upstream provider, xTom.

    Migration Schedule:

    Date & Time: March 22, 2025, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM SGT
    Expected Downtime: 12 hours
Impact: No changes to your data or IP address
We are committed to minimizing disruption and ensuring a smooth transition. No action is required on your end, but we appreciate your patience as we complete this migration.

The current xTom blend in SG is weak compared to CDN77. They only have NTT and PCCW while CDN77 has those plus five more. @xTom has stated that they plan to replace with the more premium GSL IP transit in March.

That itself should provide considerably better routing than CDN77 in most cases, especially for egress. Assuming GSL becomes the primary upstream. https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4325635/#Comment_4325635

I managed to find the gateway IP for xtom sg, NTT and PCCW sucks. The ping is 4x what cdn77 was. If they really do switch to GSL that would be nice, hosthatch uses GSL as well and has great connectivity. I hope this doesn't become a bait and switch. @NDTN would appreciate if you can clear the air on this matter.

We dont have Test IP/Looking Glass for the new SG DC1 yet. As borkedascii mentioned, @xTom will add GSL in March to the current blend.

For a single server setup, we would rely on remote hands. However, for a data center migration, we prefer to handle it ourselves to minimize downtime. I, along with two other technicians and the data center’s on-site tech, will be available to complete this task. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly, and we’ll have enough time afterward to enjoy a coffee with @FAT32.

Today, we completed the addition of more nodes to Singapore DC2, performed various maintenance tasks, and carried out pre-cabling for the new DC1. A storage node with VirtFusion and NVMe boot drives has also been installed in the new DC1.
