It just needs to handle setting the nameservers
Anything that is not miles away from CentralNic is le bad.
Nerd
Damn right.

Can you explain this a little (like I'm 15 years old)?
CentralNic helped Inleed become an ICANN accredited registrar and helps them with integration. Everything goes Inleed -> CentralNic -> ICANN.
https://www.centralnicreseller.com/registry-account-management-ram/
I don't like CentralNic. I avoid it like the plague.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all because I’d guess vast majority of their registrations are .SE & .NU so they probably spend most of their time with their system that communicates with IIS.
I’m rather impressed as a small-ish Swedish provider that they’re ICANN accredited at all.
But they arent.
Edit: got a separate entity acting as their registrar. So dunno if that would qualify as inleed.
May have bought the registrar...
Anyhow its not that hard to become ICANN accredited, cost is decent if you are a cctld registrar already... Just fees... But... It's cheaper/faster to acquiry an existing registrar.
Love inleed though. Use them a lot for cctlds. Prem.
They are. Yelles AB is Inleed.
I know, but seperate company right?
@Saragoldfarb see what company you paid to on your invoice from Inleed. It’ll say Yelles AB.
Don’t think so, no.
Oh, inleed is the subsidiary of Yelles... Makes sense
Yeah, so they say, but I think ’brand’ is a better word. I don’t think Inleed is s company at all. Yelles AB is the only company.
@Saragoldfarb I think this is the CEO

Some holding company but nothing else. It’s Yelles AB. There’s no Inleed company IIRC
You're right
... I should check my invoices better, lol. I think most Swedish registrar's are resellers or part of Miss hosting (?). Good for them.
Yup. They own it all basically, but they suck bad.
Even the other big ones like Loopia I don’t think are ICANN accredited, but could be wrong.
You're probably right. Never looked into them much. Someone on e recommended them to me for se/nu and I never looked back.
Probably right. Loopia sucks big time as well but big market share.
Glad to hear, people who use them are usually very happy from what I’ve seen.
I think I recall seeing a crazy slow YABS of their VPS though, and when I used their web hosting I recall it being slow, but they’re very cheap for Swedish standards so…
Yeah, they’re bad, but they don’t use the same very very questionable sales tactics at least.
I am curious, how much wud it cost someone to launch a tld ? lets say dot rat ? Like ballpark figure in fees ? @Saragoldfarb @emgh
I think they're more registrar focussed so I don't blame them.
Use(d) wk.se as well. Is like using a registrar from 1999 but it work(ed) fine. Good pricing. They recently redeveloped site/backend... Dunno.. I mean, I don't care much for the registrar if basics work, registry (Internetstiftelsen) is superb.
500K
Next approval round opens Q2 2026 so be quick:)
I mean, it's like 240K approval, then your infra and manhours.
Once set it gets lower, abou 28K/y for ICANN + your own expenses.
We're cctld accredited for 2 registries, use resellers for gTLDs as it's hard to make the math work unless you can scale. We're close though.
Then you have the big registrars who can provide at cost registration because they can as they're able to upsell with add-ons. Cannot compete without much, much funding from the start.
Then, ICANN is like... A fucking snail... A sloth , it takes ages... Fucking annoying... I mean... Sigh.
They should adopt some from Scandinavia/West Europe registries. Stick it to the registries maintaining the TLDs, fuck verisign archaic sobs.
Sorry... I feel I digress.
YES, IIS is the shit. They’ve helped me get the transfer code to a domain from a shit provider (when I called them, they asked me to email them with the domain name in question and that they’ll help me, and so I emailed and included the provider as well in the email and before even IIS got back, they got scared gave me the auth key.
They also operate two free to use offices in Sweden for co-working etc. Also events etc.
And, they publish lots of stats. Everything is public. They have a txt for download of dropping domains and they show stats for each registrar like how many domains they’ve registered etc.
Although, I don’t think Inleed is more domain-focused, even though that’s where they shine. They operate at least one DC (DC meaning basically a rebuilt house IIRC), likely two. They’ve also expanded their presence recently I think, and they do colo at very competitive rates.
Ho li fk! like seriously someone spent half a million dollar to get ml and tk then give it for free, kudos to them albeit sad where they all went
Very expensive though.. I thought it wud be much cheaper.
after getting a tld registry, can that registrar like withhold some key domains for auctions without offering them at regular prices first? I know a registrar doing that 🤔
Yes, Prem stuff.
Oh, I didn't know that about inleed. Will check them out for servers.
