Also what is status of shipping in this giveaway?

No international shipping. Either you can use forwarding service, and pay local customs. Or have some one in US bring to you.

I think @TrK has better information on it.

Even if you forward this, I believe you would still have to pay fees and customs!

  • What are usually customs in your countries?

  • Wow, I focused on a discord discussion and refreshed to many pages here! Man you folks are making the page counts go up!

This is what I am thinking. Maybe a drive on my local machine with a Wireguard tunnel setup using DNS (I have dynamic IP). What do you guys think?

    For backups?

HYPE FOR RACKNERD'S NEW YEAR THREAD !!

Keep up the hype and you'll end up decked out like me! :)

    RACKNERDGANG

What are you doing with lots of mugs. :D

2 for the cup holders on the chair, another for the table.

Yeah, I'm very ADHD so I have them everywhere. haha

    Backups over backups.

Yes! Is this is a good backup strategy?

Infact, the only sound backup strategy.

But spread them around. Don't stack all of them at one place :D

Yah, maybe I should invest in a few 1GB RAM storage VPSes just for backup. Or, maybe, I could setup a HDD on my local machine to rsync backups directly.

    You should!

Which one would you prefer. VPS or a local backup drive?

Depends on the provider of VPS but Local backup is the best when it comes to speed you can easily access the data, if vps provider gives good options for data security then VPS

Encrypt your data before uploading. We can't be sure about security at some places anyway.

You guys leave the laptop to me. :D

I haven't gotten around comparing other providers. Pretty happy with RackNerd. As for security, I like to set it up on my own. It's a good learning experience for me as well.

Both are good options, I would prefer local drive for fast transfers

Local + remote is your best option if the data is important. A physical accident like fire makes local backups void.

@DaDeveloper Youa re in top position now. Keep going. The Acer Nitro laptop (1st prize) is priced the same as the Skytech Gaming PC on the BF thread. And, Ig, this is the first time, an i7 laptop is up for grabs in a RackNerd GA.

That would be nice if I could get it, but I also want to not always be glued to my device all the time

Well, I promise not to compete for the gaming laptop. Infact, I really need to get back to my work. I won't say no to the backpack though.

Thanks. Let me try for one or PS5.. :p

I'm still using the Xbox Series S that I won in 2021, and I just bought a new ASUS ROG Strix G17 (Ryzen 9 7845HX/4070) so I'll leave y'all the top prizes this year. :D

Yup. I remember that XBox one.. Wow you got some new specs. 4070 is cool. How much VRam that model have?

    8GB GDDR6

Nice. You using it to test any Gen AI?

    Games probably 😭😭

I want to save some money this new year, to get one good rig to play with GenAI. I have some interesting ideas to integrate it to my web projects

oh yeah the backlog of personal projects

  • I'd be totally into winning maybe the TV, but I've been loving my 2007 Sony Bravia more than even my newer 4K 65" LG, so I'm just gunning for some account credit, or maybe some merch I don't have! Would be cool to have the new SwissGear backpack, I have the Northface one. :)

This is what I am thinking. Maybe a drive on my local machine with a Wireguard tunnel setup using DNS (I have dynamic IP). What do you guys think?

Use some dynamic dns provider or if you have a domain and your registrar has an api, you can just use that to automatically update it (of course, depends on TTL and how long it takes for the DNS servers you're using to pick it up)

Another +1 for Tailscale, it has built in DNS and domain names included.

  • I really should update my signature links, these are some ancient offers. I don't even think they still link to the original offers that had those PIDs at the time. :o
