I noticed you also offer 1TB email hosting, is it 1000GB or 1024GB?🤪

The reseller plans/etc that are listed as 1TB are 1024GB. The stacked lifetimes are 1000GB as Fran pointed out, since they're multiple 250G plans not 256

I first got a triennial 100G just bcoz I saw Fran's name associated with the brand. After using it I realized it's not only mail it's so much freaking more. Then I put in a ticket to let me upgrade to lifetime plan. I have been enjoying that. Now I see more lifetime options and I'm wondering if I ask for a further upgrade, wud @NameCrane shoot me at sight ....

Yes, minus Singapore. I've been caught up with a few things and haven't finished setting up the routing.

No need to ask, you can upgrade yourself right in billing, just pay the difference.

    2 questions Fran:

If I choose to upgrade let's say a year from now will the prices for different packages vary compared to current prices?

Do u plan to launch any kind of app for ur storage option? I like the em client for Android but that's only specific to mail and even calendar/contacts r only visible in the windows edition? Cud we in the future see a combined app? Like wt is ur plan for the future as of now?

You'll pay whatever the price is in the future. If need to lock the price in, you best do it now. As we've mentioned, the lifetimes go up in price, and the BF deals go away until next year.

The main goals at the moment is to fill some gaps in the cranemail portal (alias handled is up next with easy mass creation options). We have a developer that's working on rclone support, we'll need to test that.

We don't want to get too far ahead until we hear more from Smartermail and their plans. From what we've heard they're doing a pretty major uplift to expand on the collaboration and improve the file storage/sharing.

Some users have asked us to implement something like addy.io, but I don't know how they even work, so i'll need to see how easily we can replicate it. Backups are another big thing that we've promised to get sorted. I need to see how well my ideas scale for that.

With us now having a good feel for module development our next major project is to finalize domains. Then we'll start to integrate everything together (free cranemail account with every domain for instance).

You're always welcome to join the discord channel where everyone is discussing ideas, what they want/need from the product, etc.

  • For testing, I added a domain and also configured an alias as domain catch-all. But when I send a test email from my gmail to [email protected] I get Delivery Status Notification (Failure) with message "The response from the remote server was:
    550 High probability of spam".

So am I configuring catch all correctly? and how can I turn off spam or at least lower its sensitivity?

I would probably login to spamexperts and add the alias in there. It smells like SE doesn’t know it’s local.

    Thanks now it works!

  • Another question, does smartermail have a unified inbox for all the domains I added? If not, can I achieve it by redirecting all catchall of my domains to a single specific inbox? (How)

I wonder if you could use plus addressing to auto filter it into inboxes. Smartermail does auto folder filtering if you enable it.

    Francisco

  • I would try that, but then I wonder if it has the ability to send from different domains. Say I set my domainA as primary and forward all emails (catchall) to it and best if I don't have to create a mailbox for each domain I added as I just need to collect all emails from my primary domain, and of course still being able to send emails from different domain in domainA mailbox.

P.S. I'm actually using mailcow +SoGo which can achieve the above hence I asked if SmarterMail has the same features because it's, smarter ;)

  • Singapore has poor deliverability overall. The same as Dubai.
I use Dubai to bypass local geo restrictions for emails (yes, such even exist :D )
    But global filtering is high.

Only US is suitable if you need good delivery.

EU is ok. Slovenia and Slovakia are at the top. Then go Czechia, then Poland, then France and etc. But still filtering exists.

@mansoor said: I am confused. Are you saying you are keeping up to 90 days backup or in 90 days you anticipate a solution. While I trust you, I have been burnt quite a few times on LET when the provider just disappeared. Alpharocks, NexusBytes, VirMach to just name a few.

No. What I'm saying is that we're still working on implementing backups as well as a way for users to export them easily.

The current thought is that we build a small portal/interface that runs on each mailserver (for instance, https://us1.workspace.org/backups/ or something) which you'd log into with the primary admin (maybe even the domain admin if you allow that) and then pull down the archives.

I think this is the better option than gating it behind cranemail's portal in billing since now you can allow your own customers to login and fetch on their own.

    Feedback?

    Francisco

    @Francisco

In my case, I have to download and protect all my customers so having it in one place would be better. Customers are not technically savvy and diligent to do it myself. I have a PHPbackup script that logs on to WHM and initiates remote backup for all my cpanel accounts. For DA, it just lets me enter a remote location in the reseller panel and the schedule and it does the rest itself which is awesome.

Whatever, option you add, should allow to script to set a schedule so its automated.

@mansoor said: Whatever, option you add, should allow to script to set a schedule so its automated.

Current ideas for backups are as follows:

    • backups that include the file storage will be taken once a month
    • mail-only backups will be taken once per week
    • Initially it'll be .zip files
    • Talks of somehow securely exposing rsync/sftp options

    In comparison:

-Office 365 charges for backups per GB (not sure if they charge for bandwidth too)
    - Zoho includes a single monthly backup it seems, more requires pay (there's also a 'max downloads in a given month of a backup)
    - Google Workspaces allows 1 full download of your data per month. I'm not sure how many times the backup can be downloaded

We don't want to over deliver on this and then we're having to scale it back because people ripping bandwidth all the time (sharing the rsync/sftp to turn it into a file dump of sorts, etc).

If you use spamexperts it won’t have that delay normally. The smartermail default has graylisting which adds 15 minutes or so of delay.

Namecrane email delivery is different depending on world location?

  • Lifetime offers are becoming more and more tempting. Please let me know if there is ever a lifetime email storage of ~10 GB. I am looking for a management solution for my disposable email accounts linked to one of my domains. I use these for giveaways, special offers and newsletters that I occasionally need to access. A normal disposable email account is not enough for this.

Wouldn't happen, at least not any cheaper than what the 250G Lifetime is priced at. The resource pricing is negligible, the real cost is support/etc over the long term.

This is extremely aggressively priced already, there won't be a smaller & cheaper plan available at any point.

$20/3yr is a good value for your use case if you don't want to commit to the lifetime.

What is surprising here? :D It is a general thing.
Mail from Asia will be rejected by some mail servers based on the geo of the IP.
However, you need UAE or Singapore IP for delivery to some local providers or companies servers, they will not accept US. Will get error like 550 Your country is not allowed to connect to this server..

You may test your setup and delivery to providers like interia.pl, etc

  • @Francisco said: Some users have asked us to implement something like addy.io, but I don't know how they even work, so i'll need to see how easily we can replicate it.

Together, Addy.io and SimpleLogin represent the standard. Each, if I recall, can be self-hosted.

It isn't clear yet whether NameCrane can offer one of those directly. If not, we might consider how to achieve the same benefits. An alternative practice, outlined below, is offered by some mail hosts (ie, NameCrane's competitors). In fact, this design eliminates SimpleLogin's biggest inconvenience: reverse aliases.

    1. A customer manually creates a list of local-parts (also known as aliases) for a single domain name.
    2. The customer has, if preferred, just one mailbox for receiving and sending to and from each local-part.
    3. Sending any message requires selecting the desired local-part.
    4. Sending from any local-part never divulges the existence of another local-part.
    5. Mail received to any local-part arrives in a common inbox. (Using rules, mail can also sort automatically to folders if configured to do so.)

Does NameCrane already offer this usage pattern? I'd like to make NameCrane my primary mail host, and I need to accomplish the above (or some reasonably similar setup).

  • @Francisco I've now managed to setup something closer to what is offered by other email providers such as Zoho, ProtonMail, Tuta, FastMail...in which I've multiple domains and they're all used by myself, I just want to add them as domain aliases and all emails should received from one dedicated mailbox. All good so far, I can received mails from all my domains in a single inbox. When it comes to dispatch/outgoing email, this is another story entirely. I wanted to create email alias for specific domain alias and send email from that email alias. After trying out for a day this seems to be not possible at the moment, perhaps I'm not doing it right, but I really need that to work (this is a standard feature in other email providers as well).

    For example:
    Primary domain = exampleA.com
    domain alias1 = exampleA.org
    domain alias2 = exampleA.net

What is working now is that I can already send email AS [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] -- "admin" being the logged in user. But I would also like to extend the usage to creating email alias(es) at different domains to act as send from addresses, it doesn't work as shown in screenshot below:

I would really like this to work as this is the only missing piece so far in my replacement for Zoho Mail. Thanks

On deliverability if Google Workspace & Office365 score a 100, MXroute is a 98-99, we're probably in/around the 90-92 range at the moment and improving.

In my view on a score of 1-100, our deliverability is a 100. I’m not trying to not be humble, but I won’t downplay the blood, sweat, tears, and endless hours. Anyone who doesn’t accept mail from us, we’re looking at a situation where the email itself is the problem and not us. I just have to remind t-online.de of this every couple years 😂
