Just out of curiosity, did any rep from Hetzner ever address this thread any where? @Hetzner_OL
Also does Hetzner have any sort of clause or wording in their TOS that they can terminate services without reason with a 30-60 days notice? I recall seeing something similar in OVH's TOS. I may have a read through their TOS later after work today.
I moved alot of my services out of Hetzner over a year ago due to connectivity issues, but it would be really distasteful of Hetzner to not mention any sort of fair-use on the traffic but enforcing it. In their defense, they do not mention the word "Guaranteed" anywhere, only "Dedicated" and "Unmetered".
I know Broadband/Home internet companies used to dance around the Speed limits a lot too by using the term "Upto" xxx Mbps till they got sued in a class action. OVH got their shit straight and distinguish between Standard and Guaranteed Bandwidth, maybe Hetzner needs to revisit their wording on their website before a bunch of big (German) clients create trouble for them.
I highly recommend keeping the epithets intended for me to yourself.
This is the Hetzner business model and if you don't like it, you can buy somewhere else. You can buy IP ranges for 6 - 8k and route wherever you want. Don't like it - don't buy it. Hetzner is not a monopolist, there are thousands of companies that provide similar services.
Well, once you have your own hosting business, you can buy Ip ranges for $6-8k and give them away for free with the cheapest dedicated servers if that business model suits you.
They changed their IP's setup price and it's just Hetzner's business how they do business. Not yours.
So it was brain damage afterall.
Sir, I dont mind them charging the buy cost for a right to rent something. Its their right.
You asked what was the problem with the price.
It was batshit insane, thats what was wrong with it. I moved away from the provider long ago due to that.
My point to the other guy was, that if they do such price changes, you can expect anything from them.
No, they were instructed not to. And official Support via Robot also has been instructed not to reply to anything about this. These are only left to abuse department.
The abuse department, be it for IP, netScan, or any issues, generally does not give a f*ck nor reply, they're pretty nazi about it, we don't like you, we burn you.
They sometimes do reply after a week or so, if they want to.
Hetzner's rule of thumb, if you annoy them, and get on their abuse list, you are now a sinner that deserves to be treated badly.
I actually offered to pay for extra traffic back when I had this issue, but they did not care. As I said, once on the list, your upcoming days with Hetzner will be like hell.
"There is no bandwidth limitation. We will charge € 1/TB for overusage."
Can anyone explain, "no bandwidth limitation", and then it's overusage?
If you exceed the 20TB limit on a 10G line they will not slow down your 10G line, but charge €1/TB for overusage. This does not apply to a 1G line in that context.
You should ask them about that not on Low End Support forum. This limitation are for those who abuse their networks, IPTV, streaming media, etc.
Edit: I didn't notice how old this thread was.
Does that mean I can user 900mbps on 1G line all the time, and forever?
Their tos and server description sucked!
I am asking them. just waiting for response via email, which might take forever; which might not be useful, either. If they really cared, they'd make a good ones already.
If you read their documentation carefully, you won't ask that. hetzner has all servers equipped with gigabit NICs by default, so they can run 24/7 with unlimited traffic. On the other hand, if you pay for a 10g NIC subscription or use hetznercloud, the billing model of 20t free traffic and overage charges applies.
hetzner has their problems, but here I don't see any.
You most certainly cannot use 24/7 unlimited on their 1G. They will kick you out.
Someone needs to hit em with a lawsuit for false advertising. Candidates?
That's a different story, I'm just paraphrasing Hetzner's documentation.
Nonetheless, normal heavy traffic should not be affected.
Pushing around 200T per month is enough to fully saturate the gigabit ports at peak times in a regular use case.
I came to an item, I have read all the item's related description. and I was still confused. You just can't expect me to read all the docs carefully. especially other products'.
I am using another provider, using 250mbps 24/7 on the 1g line. It seems they are happy about it. I am looking forward to expanding my biz. let's say I'll reach 600mbps 24/7. would I be on the edge? If so, what is the point of unlimited 1g ads that made me pick them?
200T/month seems equivalent to 617.28 Mbps. Which is on the edge? it doesn't seem fair.
Anyway, Thank you all for your helps. It really helped. Hetzner also answered the email within 1 day, which is not bad. I ll put 2 more questions to them, and probably be with them.
This is not a serious business reference, but my experience is that-
I have a minio cluster of four storage servers at Hetzner for about 200 euros each, which I use with high traffic through an external load balancer, and everything is fine, no disputes.
I guess the unspoken rule here is that if you buy their very cheap servers and keep pushing them 24*7 for months, they may not be happy to do business with you. The reality is that 1G port of unlimited traffic might cost as much as 40 euros. They always need to make a profit.
But if your server is not that cheap kind, there is nothing wrong with it. It's not an official answer, but it's always good to have some reasonable expectations in mind. Good luck with finding the right server.
That is what I have in mind too. yours are 242$ea right? I was looking at 123$ea. haha. How much bw you are using at a time? or monthly?
Your answer's very informative, thanks you much. I think that unspoken rules applied everywhere. The extended rules should be: Don't go for "cheap" thingy, be fair, you earn some, we earn some. Right?
The model I purchased is the SX135.
Since it's four machines, I ordered internal switches to allow the cluster's internal traffic to proceed on the internal network. The egress traffic I haven't calculated yet, but I'm sure it's not too low as the evening peak I can push 2G/s
Unless it's clearly indicated that it is unshared/dedicated bandwith you can always assume there is some sort of fair use in place(and contact them to know more)
