oh hey! Also checkout this poll: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/183876/what-is-your-go-to-os-for-vpss-and-why
That poll is unfair. No FreeBSD. It's therefore irrelevant (in my case).
Debian thx
I love Freebsd but lack of many compatibility (even cannot run yabs on it)
Prefer debian / ubuntu for many main purposes
Debian is love
debian simple lightweight fuss free
My bad. I had missed seeing that.
Mods: can close this if needed.
I install Debian on the KVM server.
Inside, I create LXC containers running Ubuntu.
Inside, I create Docker containers based on Debian.
I prefer TempleOS, if it's not available then Rocky 8 is fine.
I prefer L4N made by GNAA with help of Goatse Security.
Top notch for server hosting needs.
It’s fun to see OS polls every several days and guys show their love for Debian. The result is clear now.
Debian is love.
Debian is life.
Let systemd control you.
Let aptitude guide you.
Let Netplan.io connect you.
Let UFW protect you.
Ubuntu in general,
in some cases i want to use proxmox or when storage space isn't sufficient, then Debian thanks
That work one.
I prefer Debian...then ubuntu....not really into centos as it is not that yummy....
FreeBSD BSD family OS
too many gone for Debian..is this after the CentOS fall or was this case even before centos was equipped with all the bells and whistles.
Quite likely.
Although Debian was very popular before that as well.
CentOS Minimal is still very minimal.
At this moment I plan to keep using CentOS 7 Minimal as long as I can.
Even still have one CentOS 6 Minimal OVZ VPS.
Uses about 7 (seven) MB RAM when idle.
I've used Debian for everything, didn't bother to change but might switch to alma or rocky for some servers.
Debian surely
These days, Debian. In the past, it was about 50/50 Debian and CentOS.
If I wanted a RedHat derivative, I might choose AlmaLinux or maybe Rocky Linux because of the changes to CentOS.
This one also Dont have Slackware
Personal stuff - Debian
projects/ work - Alma. Due to their LTS
I mean, Debian has at least 5 years of LTS(up to 10 with Freexian and some kernel patches). I think its enough for most companies. Even at work, I always run current stable on servers - I hate "rusty" software.
When i was an intern for the first time, it was a cPanel server running Cloudlinux 7, from there they instructed me to use Alma/CentOS for stuff and it became my habit
Yes CentOS was my bread and butter with 5 and 6, but I slowly became a fan of Debian and haven't looked back.
Debian is rock solid
I'm kind of honestly surprised I don't see more Windows Server.
Granted I know a lot of people here probably don't cater to a lot of Windows environments.
AlmaLinux & RHEL.
Debian Is the best choice
