2018 were simpler times..
Do we buy this or 10 more Ryzen servers?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/154633067060
No doubt,Ryzen Yes!
Uhmm... you remember @VirMach when your car went bust and was in shop for week(s)? Imagine for how long this will be in shop...
tl;dr: Ryzen, moar Ryzen.
Ryzen servers first. once deals are sold out then the hummer.
If it comes with a Krystal and a Tiffany, get the Hummer.
But think of how many servers he could transport using that thing!
HumMach® Solutions LLC
Could also be ViVee Solutions by that logic :-)
True, but the Brits won't take that brand seriously
Still waiting for more deals!!
Finally?
Oh wait, it's suddenly silent in here... Has the VPS been provisioned already? The 143-44 one?
Finally what?
Or buy many EPYC 7351
But where is the DDR5 ?
Ticket #586962, created 09/17, not fixed yet...
I should drink a cup of coffee
Everybody should
Rather a cup of tea but it's too late here.
Every time I look into Epyc, I talk myself out of it. I get CPU bottleneck and real-world memory speed anxiety and I just can't do it. Otherwise it could be amazing compared to keeping dual E5 for some specials if we go that route.
We'll most likely fill some Ryzens, see how it goes, and then consider Epyc more closely.
It'd look like:
Dual Epyc 7351
512GB RAM
6x 4TB NVMe
10GE Port
In theory this should perform at least similar to or greater than our current dual E5 nodes but it would end up having only as little as half the processing power versus equivalent proportion Ryzen. Savings wise it's either the above, or 2.5-3x Ryzen nodes (with only 75% the total potential capacity) for the same price.
Either way though it would make a good drop-in replacement for the storage nodes should we decide to do that instead of Intel. Right now though, they're Intel and maybe one of them will be threadripper (and not Epyc) but the future ones may be Epyc (versus Ryzen, since we do need the extra memory and lanes.)
Hello again.
Still waiting for more offers!!
They are gone.
Less than 2 months to Black Friday.
Hmm... ryzen seems to be taking some time, doesn't it? It'd be great if it was accelerated, so I could finally ditch BuyVM, that is.
If the cost differential is 25% between a 4 year old EPYC and RYZEN then I can understand your hesitation.
Wait for intel strike back, and we can have cheap AMD.
What do you mean? The 3900X is going to CPU and memory bottlenecked long before the Epyc. You wouldn't use Epyc for storage servers, you'd use all your old Intel's.
