Sounds like they won't have me as a tester...

Everything works well so far without a hitch.
And here's the bench.sh output from both VPS's:
DC3 2GB VPS:
DC8 2GB VPS:
Overall, I'm very impressed by the responsiveness and ease of use of their CP. The VPSes seem very snappy and have good network connectivity. Once I come up with a good test use case, I'll put them to through their paces a little more. But my first impression of the platform is that it's pretty solid and neat! The live graphs are a good touch as well.
I fucking love hetzner.
@bersy, go go go get Hetzner ... now.
Let check price after beta period ...
maybe hetzner only blocked some asian users, since there is a thread on hostloc with already ~7k views and 112 posts
Look: All they want is your name, first name, and probably date of birth and that from an official document. The items they want are quite standard; the only point one might feel uneasy about is the "scan of [official id]" part.
The balance is slightly (mostly psychological though) in their favour but a) I sure that barrier alone keep 95+% of fraudsters away (particularly those who were banned can't simply return with another fake name) and b) is two sided and has advantages for you, too, like the fact that this scheme also binds Hetzner (e.g. they don't have the excuse that you are a fake).
Also getting "Account is disabled", but I'm still logged in on the device where I created the account and I was able to start up the servers I created again...
Thank you for your interest in our beta test for our new cloud product! We are very pleased about being able to offer you this new product at low prices. But it's not quite ready yet. That is why we are still doing our beta test, which is only open to select customers.
But you can rest assured that soon all of you will be able to get the Hetzner Cloud for yourself. We will announce the official release soon.
Be patient just a little bit longer. We believe that our Hetzner Cloud will be worth the wait! --Katie, Marketing
@ehab @falzo Thanks for the suggestion. We'll take it under review.
You will be
the firstthe secondone of the first people to know. I am sure if we do anything for BF, we will say something here.@fsdguy As you guessed, the ID check is to prevent scamming/spamming. Personal data is deleted after your account is approved.
To other LETers who are using the beta, thanks for your feedback and keep posting it here. Our team will be grateful for suggestions.
If you did not get approved for some reason for the beta, please just be a bit patient. You'll have your chance to use the Hetzner Cloud soon enough.
The prices in the beta are merely placeholders. We will not use real prices until the official product launch. --Katie
a) my name is bsdguy (not fsdguy).
b) I took the liberty to format in bold the part of your statement that I think is important for many -> Personal data is deleted after your account is approved.
I'm wondering though how you bill all John and Jane Does (as you have no personal data anymore). Maybe you meant that the scans are deleted once the account is approved?
@Hetzner_OL amazing experience with it. keep a good job.
Obviously she meant any verification material required (ID's, utility bills, etc) for verification. Was there really a point to making a fuss over a small detail where the meaning is obvious?... or were you really that upset over her getting your name wrong?
Edit: Just want to throw out there, bsdguy. I like you and value/appreciate your opinion/input on some matters, but sometimes you can be really petty.
As a new customer, we kindly request that you provide us with a copy (scan/photo) of your passport or ID card for authentication purposes. You can blur or block out information that is not necessary for authentication.
Please would you send the document by fax or as an email attachment to this email address. The document submitted will be deleted in our system with immediate effect after checking it.
This requirement is only necessary when you place your first order with us.
thank you very much, I am counting on it ;-)
for the cloud servers, geekbenches:
2GB in Falkenstein:
https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/4602800
8GB in Nuremberg:
https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/4602911
sadly I don't remember if I chose IO optimized or the other option... it seems that isn't mentioned anywhere on the actual service after it is launched, which one it is. (unless I miss it somehow)
also, some kind of information about the difference would be great. if IO optimized turns out to be raid 0 or other non replicated stuff. hmm... even OVH switched away from local non-raid SSD in their newer public cloud ranges.
going to run fio and stuff anyways, so prepare for more wall of texts :-P
"fuss"? Granted, my attempt to put it in a funny way obviously failed (I'm probably to ugly to be funny) but I am neither angry nor did I mean to pick on her. Kindly note that my emphasis was in favour of her/ @hetzner_OL. I wanted to underline that positive point she had made (while at the same time inviting her to clarify that somewhat).
As for my name, no I was not angry but wanted to point at it anyway simply because using the correct name helps in spotting when being addressed.
My apologies then. Appears my sarcasm detector had a glitch. I'm notoriously bad at detecting tone from text, hence why I've stopped trying to determine if my wife is mad at me or not when texting :P
Cheers!
Tried 8GB at Falkenstein. Everything looks good except for backup - couldn't enable it. Snapshots are working fine on the other hand, approximately 3 minutes per snapshot.
Floating IPs are cool, ping to another Hetzner dedi at DC1 is less than 1ms. Is it possible to have some private LAN within Hetzner with these boxes?
for the IOs using fio. I did a test with a bigger file and 8k blocksize to have a look at the max iops... after that did the same again with 64k blocksize to see how diskspeed scales:
2G instance
so around 8.5k iops for read and additional 8.5k iops for write in a 50% mix ... seems quite good to me and the upper limit IO wise.
in the second test one can see them drop a bit because the overall transferrate of ~440MB/s becomes the limit then - which seems absolutly reasonable.
8G instance
so, this is interesting. with small 4k blocksize we achieve something around 43k/43k iops read and write and about 330MB/s transfer rate. I'd say this is the IO optimized instance then :-)
with 64k blocksize IOs drop down to ~6k while the transfer speed does not increase much at all - yeah optimized for small block IO access.
(I used 8GB files on the bigger one to not let take the cache over the numbers.)
@Hetzner_OL Do you know why I'm getting this error? This is not a new account and I have already a few servers.
just run wget from the 2G instance in falkenstein:
watch that Frankfurt speeds... 10 Gbps shared or what is this? connection to ovh sucks compared to that (but that hasn't been better ever since)
recheck on the 8 GB instance in nuremberg (which is even closer to ffm)
now that makes me curious about the price point and what other instances will be available. @Hetzner_OL are there any additional informations you can share? what about additional disks?
last post... iperf between falkenstein and nuremberg:
and the other way round:
rrrr. fast :-)
I asked them to verify my account but no response yet.
Maybe everyone running benchmark at the moment, so ...
Got it working now on a new account. Didn't submit any payment or ID details, worked for me. Have two 8GB servers in DC3 and one in DC8 running right now. Wondering how much this usually costs now..
@Falzo I'm getting 4Gbps upload.
Fastest as the hell.
This is amazing!!!
@Hetzner_OL - thx for the trial. So we can plan how to utilize the beta, can you give us a 2 week warning before ending the trial and taking cloud vms away? It could just be posting it in this forum, etc.
@Hetzner_OL Thanks for offering the free trial. How long does the beta trial last for?
