In my personal experience (so this is all just me), OVH has horrible support that takes forever, but everything's automated so even then you really don't need to contact support for anything really.
Ordered one, had a phone call about 10 minutes to confirm some details as its my first order. Looks like it will be a few days he thought as the DC is being restocked at the moment. I can live with that for ten bucks

I'd presume the site you order from is irrelevant, you just get whatever's waiting to be handed out.
Well I ordered from the UK site and that's what I got. YMMV tho as that isn't the minimum spec guaranteed so you could just as likely end up with an older Atom or a Celeron.
Anyone know how to work out the physical location of your server?
They're all located in Roubaix, France. You can confirm by doing a traceroute - you'll see rbx-(stuff).fr.eu in there (yes, OVH has weird RDNS).
How do these do for webhosting compared to the average $7 VPS? Is a dedicated Atom cpu slower/faster than having 2 shared cores on a VPS with fast cpu's?
My guess is VPS is faster? But this atom dedicated you can max out all resource 24/7 because its all yours. Not sure.
In your ManagerV3 check the "Rack:" field, then you can find which exact datacenter your rack is in (RBX-1/2/3/4), on http://travaux.ovh.net/vms/index.html
The biggest gain is no sudden slowdowns of your website because some other customer on the same node launched torrents or some stupid minecraft server.
As for the general performance, sure some Xeon or i7 will be faster than Atom, but
1) only if it's not oversold/overloaded CPU-wise (which you can't know and have no control over),
2) the performance benefit of a faster CPU will not be noticeable at light-to-medium webhosting.
Strangely enough, it shows you the datacentre if you log in to Manager V3 in French but not when you log in in English.

This is my first post here but on the 7th I ordered one of the €9.99 servers, took till this morning to be delivered and I got one of the N2800s. Had a Win 2012 license I installed and it seems to be doing pretty good.
Don't be sad if you got a celeron. Those CPU's are older, yes. But In my experience, they will keep on going! Never had one that failed or has given up on me ;-)
LOL, no one says an older Celeron is worse because "it's going to fail or give up on you" (whatever that would mean), it's worse because it's just slower.

No, I just wanted to defend that older celeron. They are good for the price you are paying at OVH.
If you are lucky and got a more newer model processor, good for you.
There are two models of Celeron we have seen mentioned so far, that one could get:
And actually neither of those is all that bad: the first one while being single-core can probably perform non-multithreaded tasks faster than an N2800 single core just due to the MHz difference; the second one is based on the advanced Intel Core microarchitecture which is a lot 'smarter' than the simplified Atom arch, and will certainly give it a run for its money.
Benchmarks are always the answer.
