That pretty much sums it up. One may call this "scraping" customers. The fact that lowend.co got redirected to my personal facebook page right after I banned GoodHosting again doesn't exactly help him when he says he's got nothing to do with this.

Hahaha and this reminds me of that big tangent on some other topic when people started complaining about the legitimacy of a host that registers a .co domain. LowEND.co was the loudest kid on his soap box about it, now look how it turned out. At least he was kind enough to let everyone know he was going to "deadpool".

We also got a redirect from vpscorner and, while not even knowing about it until people started opening tickets, didnt block the redirect, even replied tickets to the best we could. Nobody here believed we have anything to do with that, except their customers.
I think banning was a little harsh, this does not look like a scam, just things going honestly bad due to poor management. It will not help anyone, if it was a scam, the scammer will make another account, if it wasnt, we wont have part of the story and someone here talking about how not to do things.
IMO, as they say, a wise person learns from own mistakes, a genius learns from other people's mistakes.

I am still in contact with GoodHosting, as somehow I believe he still could be set up. I've seen his company registration and he's sent me a scan of his ID (without anything blurred out). I'm probably going to talk to him over the next few days and try to get things a bit clearer.

The facebook thing still doesn't make sense, though.

Because you are not thinking like him. If I were banned for someone redirecting to my site, I would ask that guy to redirect to someone else and see if he will be banned. In your case, of course not, I see it like a joke.

    "legal actions" against LET, really?

  • What a prick, from some PMs I thought he'd lighten up on the legal shit too.

Hint: Nothing @mpokssen has said is libellous and anything disputed was presented as such - a maybe. Taking legal action might make you feel big but it's not valid.

I'm also interested in how it's going to be worth taking action against a European (mpokssen) or an American (JBilloh) as a Canadian.

Of course not. There is no case and there will be no case.

If anything, I'd be happy to remove all the LowEND crap from the site, but if I were to do that then we couldn't be having this discussion here. I believe I've already removed some stuff and if I forgot something, anyone is free to let me know.

But you can't remove everything bad about a provider. If you do it for LowEND, you'll have to do it for everyone

I could remove the bits and pieces that make it personal, of course. Like the SilkRoad thing. But I don't see the need, as there's nothing but rumor in there and all the names can be found on the internet.

  • The fact that GoodHosting uses some kind of 4chan meme as their official avatar on FreeVPS doesn't really raise my confidence in them:

    http://freevps.us/user-11644.html

    http://www.reddit.com/r/CharlesBroughton/

  • To be honest I do feel GoodHosting got a bit of a raw deal, he seemed okay after his ban... but then stuff like that thread. I understand he feels his name is being dragged through the mud but I don't know... so many of his posts give off a bad vibe.

He did say to me he's not a PR wizard, though.

Nah, the original Charles seems to be British. Mr. Blais is really commited though, he uses the same avatar for his Github account as Charles:

    https://github.com/AlbinoGeek

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/27603-bug-tracker/

The whole thing is obviously a bid to make fun of Charles. Considering how much Damon is whining about cyber-libel the whole situation is quiet ironic.

  • libel... silly.

why ban him though? Seems like guilty until proven innocent and im not sure admins/moderators of a forum have to play judge and jury here.

if someone 'believes' there to be a case of fraud going on, how abouts collating it all together into one nice neat thread instead of all this fuzzy he said/she said stuff.

I've dug some more but couldn't find anything really incriminating.

This profile yields 3 nicknames: albinogeek, cbroughton and d22552000.

I believe the last nickname was previously unknown. It seems to be the nickname Damon used before changing to cbroughton. You can find some funny stuff with it but Damon was probably 15 years old when posting it:

    http://en.phpfans.net/qa/52218020481.html

    http://steamcommunity.com/id/d22552000/

    http://freesteam.org/threads/damon-blais-webdev.3507/

successfully hacked and shut down p3ng3l's forum once, as well as PaCmAn's website

    Interesting screenshots: http://imgur.com/pOqu8rN.png http://imgur.com/6Q7c4oe.png

It also appears that "damon.zapto.org" was some server run by Damon, when googeling it you find hits for a torrents, stream cracking, etc.

This seems to be just the usual stuff a dumb 15 years old kid does...

I see. I wondered about that.

I don't think we should hold the stuff he did at age 15 against him (not that you were, just posting it) but maybe it can help to paint a better picture. I used to 'cheat'/'hack' on games when I was younger, though. It's where I got started programming. I also have accounts on hackforums and stuff (but I've never posted, I used to look in the hosting section). My guess is a lot of us here in our 20s did similar things. The avatar thing is something though.

It's worth noting aswell he has previously (or at least claimed to) send a C&D letter to LET. It's not like he tries to stay out of trouble even if for a good cause (clearing his name).

I know nothing of such a letter.

It's also referenced in this screenshot from VPSB that he posted himself

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/4qlu585kq7xleq2/13-17-38.png

I do feel it is a lot more threats and puffed out chests than action though. In the original PM he's obviously referencing another thread where it was somewhat mentioned which I don't actually remember but I could dig out.

    last edit:

It seems it was to cloud flare:

  • Why can't we all just play nice

  • Oh, he posted a thread over at VPSB too which I won't link too directly here for obvious reasons. Worth a look.
